Blood Queen Reborn

Over in Del’s side of the jungle, it was practically a mad dash for points.

Groups of students were splitting up, reaching to different parts of the allotted area to find some new discovery. A pair of students had even bumped into each other, rushing to the same purple plant.

"I saw it first!" One boy yelled out, shoving the girl.

"Well, I got to it sooner than you!" The girl shouted, and shoved him in return.

"Enough!" Del shouted, and slammed his shield into the ground, "This event is about working together. Although it is a competition, this is only to encourage you to work harder! Not to slack off. You are not to fight against each other."

"For severely harming another team’s teammate, you shall be deducted 50 points for whatever total score you receive on today’s assessment."

The two students looked at each other angrily, and stomped away, deciding the deduction wasn’t worth the one plant.

"While we were talking, everyone’s gotten a head start," Erin commented, then began walking towards a random direction, "If we find beasts, then we can scan more points at a time than if we scanned plants."

The group agreed, and delved deeper into the jungle.

While Erin did want a good grade on this assessment, she also wanted to gain more EXP from killing beasts. Ever since she was brought into the dungeon, there was this unshakable feeling that there were more eyes on her than before. It made it harder to gather blood and improve her stats that way.

But killing beasts on an alien planet was expected, and would allow her to improve her stats when she leveled up.

While they were searching for beasts, they were scanning the area for plants at the same time. The place almost appeared like a jungle back on Earth, but there were times when they found a strange looking flower or fruit that looked completely alien.

’It should be expected, we’re pretty far from earth,’ Layla thought.

"Hey, you guys see that red thing up there?" Fex said as he pointed above.

Following his finger, they all saw a giant red flower on top of a tall twisting tree that was nearly 30ft.

"I bet no one’s scanned that one before," Layla said, then pointed the scanner at it.

It didn’t beep, and she lightly smacked it on her hand, careful of her strength.

"This would suck if our scanner is broken," Layla muttered, then used it on another plant, and it beeped, "No it’s not broken, but why isn’t it working?"

"I think I know what’s wrong," Vorden said, "It’s too far away for the scanner to pick up. Here, let me scan it."

Vorden gestured to Layla to hand the scanner to him, but she didn’t. There was always the potential problem that Vorden would find out he couldn’t copy her ability. Despite this, the real reason why she hesitated was because she didn’t like him very much.

"It’s fine, I can do it myself," Layla said, then surveyed the area for areas to climb on.

There was a large boulder, with moss growing on the side of it, and she quickly scaled the rock. Once she reached the top, Layla tried scanning the same plant again, to no avail.

"Are you sure you don’t need help?" Vorden called out.

"I’m sure!" Layla replied, then looked down at her watch.

’I know it says I’m a level 2, but if I use my strength to jump higher, and say I used my ability to lift myself...’

Fine tuning control over her strength was something Layla had practiced a bit in her free time, so she had confidence in her skill. She jumped up high, but not too high as to garner suspicion, and managed to just barely scan the flower in question.

Then she landed, and waved her arms out to balance herself.

"Be careful, Layla," Erin said as she rushed over to the boulder

She was about to help her down, but when the two touched hands, the strange headache happened again, and they instinctively flinched from each other’s presence.

’There it is, that headache again!’ Layla thought, ’Why is it that it happens whenever the two of us touch? Is it some sort of turner and blooded thing?’

Interrupting her musings, Vorden asked, "How were you able to jump so high?"

"My ability is telekinesis," Layla lied, "I was able to lift myself just slightly in the air."

"I get that, but you’re a level 2. No offense, but it shouldn’t be strong enough to carry you as high as you were."

Before she could respond, the boulder right below her started shuffling, and she jumped off.

"It’s a beast!" Erin exclaimed, already opening the system screen.

When Layla landed on the ground, she had managed to scan it before it fully woke up, snagging an extra 10 points.

This is what Erin had been looking for, a beast that hadn’t been scanned before by humans, and very likely hadn’t been defeated before by anyone. In the past, whenever she killed a beast for the first time, it would come with a delicious EXP bonus.

The sounds of a beast moving had garnered the attention of a few other students nearby, and they saw a boulder with moss growing all over it shuffle around. Those with keener eyes were able to tell that there was a glimpse of an orange, slithering body underneath.

"Vorden, Quinn, can you two flip over the snail?" Erin commanded.

They both nodded, and lifted their arms up, creating a pair of pillars that flicked it onto its back, revealing its softer, and slimier underside.

Erin was about to charge in, thrusting her rapier, when Vorden threw an ice spear into its belly. It had impaled, but barely, and Erin couldn’t help but want to stare at Vorden for using the ice ability wrong.

She jumped upwards, and thrust her rapier downwards, impaling the bouldersnail.

Then Vorden backed her up with another spear, adding onto the first one. The ice spread further, deepening the wound.

The beast writhed then fell limp. From using her sensitive hearing, she could tell it wasn’t breathing anymore.

’Wait a second, I didn’t get any EXP for this,’ She thought.

"That would be because you didn’t deal the final blow on the beast," the system replied.

Erin jumped off and walked over to the others, ’Unfortunate, but it was a basic tier. There are bound to be more around.’

"About that... You did miss out on a grand opportunity. You see, if you had been the one to kill it, you very likely could’ve gotten bonus EXP for being the first ever to kill that specific beast."

At that moment, Erin’s fists clenched so tightly, her nails had drawn blood.
