Blood Queen Reborn

Chapter 190: King Of The Underground

The beast was tall, about 8ft. It looked to be made out an amalgamation of mud, and rocks, with plant roots tightly woven together to look like musculature. In its lower torso, they could see a few human skeletons half embedded where the mud was, and its long limbs had sharp blades at the end of them. The beast didn’t have a clearly discernible head, only a mound where they would expect one to be, and facial features that looked half sculpted.

It stared in their direction, watching them closely.

"Hey," Fex said in a quiet voice, "Maybe if we leave now, we can get out of here unscathed?"

As if it were responding to him, the beast lifted its arm, and, as if on instinct, the group jumped off the roof. It shot out its root-like arm destroying where they just were. They felt lucky that they narrowly avoided a blow from a king tier beast, maybe too lucky.

Logan landed next to Fex and Vorden, a look of absolute fear on his face. His suit had a built in scanner, and it just confirmed something very dangerous to him.

"It’s a king tier beast" Logan exclaimed.

Fex nearly dyed his pants to an unsavory color. He had too many close encounters with advanced tier beasts, and now there’s a king tier?!

Layla had fallen next to Quinn, and looked up to see the beast’s blade overhead, about to slash downwards.

Quinn used the earth to just barely roll them out of harm’s way. The blade crashed and broke apart the earthy pathway. If Quinn was even a half second slower, they would’ve gotten seriously injured.

"How are we going to kill that thing?" Layla called out.

She heard Logan’s words. To think that they’d need to fight against such a high level beast, and she didn’t even have her king tier bow on hand.

’Erin, where are you!?’ She mentally cried out.

Just then, Quinn got up, and fired an earth column under Layla’s body, and she landed on top of another roof. Then, Quinn fired his tri spikes at the beast. Thankfully, Logan’s armor illuminated the area a little, so he was able to see where to strike.

Obviously, they wouldn’t have done much, but it aggravated it enough to pay closer attention to him.

’The beast looks to be partially made out of wood, if there’s any time for Layla’s burnscale, it would be now!’

Fex had seen Layla get tossed onto the roof, and was reminded of how she burned the purple beasts from above. It made him realize that Quinn had a plan, but would it be enough? Would he need to use his vampire skills and go all out?

Logan had noticed the same thing, and lifted up his arm with a blaster attached, and fired at the beast from the other side. At the same time, he had a few of his spiders crawl around to the walls of the buildings to light up the area. Although he didn’t know that Layla and Fex could see in the dark, they would serve to help both him, Quinn and Vorden out.

Then, Vorden got up, and stomped the ground, causing the earth around the beast’s legs to crack, and partially bury it. Lastly, as good measure, he added ice as well.

While all of them were doing that, Layla grabbed several arrows from her quiver, and pointed them at the beast. It was a little tricky to get all of them ignited, but once they were, she fired.

The arrows flew through the air, and her hope was that with her bow’s active skill, the beast couldn’t dodge all of them.

However, the beast was fast, fast enough to smack all the arrows to the side, fast enough where even Layla couldn’t keep track of its speed, and in the same motion, broke out of the trap around its feet like it was wet paper.

’Was it holding back its strength!?’ Layla thought, but it started to make sense. The beast was basically tanking all of their hits, and barely reacting.

Then, it flung one of its arms into Quinn, and another into Vorden. The two boys were thrown into buildings, then it swung another arm towards Layla. This time, it wasn’t holding back in its speed, and the next thing she knew, Layla was on her back, looking above at the ceiling.

’What just happened!? Why can’t I feel anything below my torso?’

Shifting her head, Layla saw her legs, detached from her, topple over. The shock of the pain caught up to her, and she winced, gritting her teeth tightly.

Logan and Fex were the last two standing, but it wouldn’t last for long as the king tier beast slashed towards Logan. There was no way someone like him could avoid the attack, not even if his suit was made for speed. However, instead of a blade stuck in his body, Fex had gotten between him and the beast, firing a red line of energy into the beast’s arm.

It wasn’t enough to stop the trajectory, but it was enough to damage it, weakening the blow. Fex took the hit head on, getting flung to the ground, but not as far as the others.

"I’m okay—" Fex weakly spoke between gritted teeth.

The feat Fex had displayed wasn’t human, but Logan didn’t care about that now. To avoid further damage, he carried Fex’s body, and ran off behind cover.

Quinn’s rock armor took most of the blow, getting completely demolished, but otherwise he could stand. He was about to get back into the fight, but then noticed that the building he was thrown into wasn’t as destroyed as when the beast hit the ground. The only difference was that he had crashed into the special black material.

’Can I use my ability on this black stone?’ Quinn wondered, placing his hand against it.

Elsewhere, Vorden was groaning in pain as nearly all of his bones were broken. Unlike Quinn, he didn’t think to make himself rock armor as such a thing required him to actively use the earth ability, which would prevent him from using another ability. However, he was starting to regret it a little as he needed to regenerate himself again.

Inside of his mind, Vorden was still sitting on the chair, and he was already figuring out his next course of action.

"Raten, you need to get on the chair, one ability isn’t enough to kill that beast!" Vorden shouted over his shoulder.

"About that..." Raten’s voice trailed off as he looked behind him. The little one’s figure rose up, tears pouring out of his dazed eyes.

"He’s hurt again," the little one muttered, fists clenched, and his voice raising, "They’re breaking him! THEY’RE BREAKING HIM!"

Back on the roof, Layla was trying to focus on healing as fast as she could, but the situation looked dire. When the beast had sliced her in half, it also cut through her bow. Without a weapon, Layla was defenseless.

Just then, Layla’s eyes widened, as there was a sensation of a family member close by.

’Could it be—?’

Like an angel descending from heaven, a white figure from above crashed on top of the beast, slamming it into the ground. Dust kicked up, but despite this, Layla already knew who it was.

Through tears of joy, Layla cried out, "Erin!"
