The energy that Erin displayed was something that Arthur had never seen before, or at least, had never seen vampires use.
While he was deep in his musings, Erin kept kicking and flailing to get at Arthur
"Oops," Arthur said, then let go of her.
Erin stood, studying him, and the sword handle visible around his shoulder.
’One day that sword will be mine,’ Erin thought.
The man she just fought was strong, definitely so, and it was clear that if she were to try catching up to him in order to acquire that sword, there was a long road ahead of her.
’It makes me wonder... Is he as strong as the dalki? And more importantly, is he as strong as her?’
It was hard to say given that she hadn’t seen the full scope of his capabilities, but she had seen enough to know he was fast, and Fex said that recently awoken vampires weren’t at their full strength.
Curious, she decided to try using her inspect skill one more time.
[Inspect]
[Arthur Pendragon]
[No further information can be revealed]
"If you are attempting to gather more information about him, then you’ll only receive the information he has given you," the system said, "The inspect skill will only work when it is as strong, or stronger, than the thing you are trying to identify."
"Now that’s enough dilly dallying," Arthur spoke, then turned to Erin, "I have several things I want to ask. If you do not know about the Punishers then how did you come to learn the shadow ability?"
"If I answer, will you give me something in return?" Erin raised an eyebrow.
"Erin!" Layla harshly whispered.
"Feisty, aren’t you?" Arthur chuckled, "You clearly did not have a teacher, but I suppose I could give you a reward of some sort for waking me up."
"To tell you the truth, I came across a book on another planet," Erin said, "I don’t have it with me, but it taught me enough about the shadow to use it."
Arthur’s eyes widened slightly, "Interesting... I will need to investigate further about what has happened to the Punishers. But before I go, let me teach you about the little trick I used."
"The skills are called Shadow to Shadow, and Shadow Link. This will be something you’ll one day be able to do," Arthur explained, "Shadow Link makes it so you can sense other shadow users in the world, and Shadow to Shadow will allow you to appear in another shadow user’s shadow. Although you don’t seem like you are capable of using these skills just yet. I am though, so if trouble ever finds you, blink your shadow, and I’ll come to your aid."
"Lastly, your reward," Arthur said, as he held his hands out, and a dark purple mist formed around it, shaping into that of a red sword.
It was similar to Arthur’s own blade, in that, it had a black handle, and the sharp part was red with a gray bar on the center, but it didn’t look nearly as fancy, or as impressive as his. If anything, it looked almost generic, like something one would have a thousand of to give to an army.
[Inspect]
[Kilton Blood Sword]
[A sword made using the blood crystals of the 12th family]
[Active skill]
[While the sword holds human blood, every time it lands a successful hit, it boosts its user’s agility by 10%. The effect stacks up to 5 times, and wears off once it runs out of blood. Automatically activates when attacking a human target.]
The sword was rather conditional, being most effective against humans. The problem was that Erin didn’t have a very reliable source of human blood, often going to Fex for it. Not only that, but she didn’t have a tool to store blood that she could then take out and feed the sword with.
{Quinn} System, If this thing activates on human blood, could it work against the dalki?
According to the inspect skill, the dalki were half human, and that question had Erin intrigued as well.
"I’ll be honest, I’m not sure myself," the system replied, "Although it could be possible, we can’t be sure until we test it out on a dalki, and something tells me they wouldn’t like that."
Erin took the sword in her hands, and checked the weight when wielding it. Then she slashed at the air a few times.
’Hmm, I can work with this,’ Erin thought, ’Only problem is that there isn’t a tier attached to it, so I can’t be sure how strong it is against a beast.’
Arthur had one last thing he wanted to say, "Although that sword is powerful, do not go around showing it off as I’m sure you can imagine certain vampires would not take kindly to its sight. The vampires who died to make that sword were terrible people, killing humans without any remorse. but other vampires will not know this."
Satisfied, shadows enveloped the ancient vampire, and he disappeared from sight. Along with it was the suffocating pressure of his presence, and they all let out a sigh of relief.
"Fex, do you know who that was?" Quinn asked.
"No, that’s the first time I’ve seen a face like his," Fex replied, "if anything, I’m surprised he hadn’t told us off for having humans around. I was half expecting him to mind wipe you guys."
"If I were to ever lose my memories, I have extensive records of my life recorded at my home across earth," Logan stated nonchalantly.
"Yeah, I wouldn’t appreciate getting my memory messed with," Vorden muttered as he crossed his arms.
Suddenly, Fex felt really bad, "About that... Vampire laws dictate that humans have to have their memories wiped, turned into vampires to keep the secret, or get killed...."
Both Vorden and Logan turned to Fex, preparing themselves to defend themselves incase he tried to do anything.
"...But, I’m already here illegally, as I didn’t tell any of my family members about where I went," Fex finished, "So long as you don’t reveal our secrets to anyone, you guys are in the clear for now."
Logan shook his head, "Nonsense. This new development has me intrigued about vampires, and their history. Revealing them to the world would only get in the way of my interests."
"Likewise, I won’t get anything for talking about all this vampire stuff," Vorden said, "I told Erin, Quinn and Layla that doing so will just bring unwanted attention on me."
’... And could put Quinn at risk,’ Vorden finished the thought.
With that out of the way, they left the cave system, using Logan’s extensive mapping to know the best way out. Once they saw the bright green of the lush jungle, almost all of them smiled happily. The air was far fresher than the stuffy tunnels.
"I can tell that sword is going to be very powerful," The system said, "Blood weapons are rather rare, and are created from the blood crystals of other vampires. Of course, this once led to chaos as there were those who killed fellow vampires in exchange for blood weapons. As a result, creation of future blood weapons were banned."
Just by holding the sword, Erin didn’t feel a boost of energy unlike when she would hold beast gear, but if her math was right, the sword could boost her agility to great levels at max capability.
Fex studied the sword, a bit in amazement. It was the first time he had seen a blood weapon up close. He couldn’t keep the idea of touching and holding it out of his mind.
"Hey, Erin, can I—"
Just then, they felt the ground shake, and they all prepared themselves for another battle, only to find that the cave behind them was crumbling. In mere seconds, the entrance collapsed, blocking them from going back.
