Blood Queen Reborn

Hearing that someone’s daughter had gone missing brought Erin back to her childhood of a kid growing up on an orange portal planet. Too many times had she wandered far from safety and nearly got swept up in danger. At the time, she had been lucky that the beasts back on Merathia weren’t particularly strong, but the beasts here were far more likely to be stronger than that.

"I’ll find your kid," Erin stated, "What does she look like?"

The woman turned around, and Erin could see there were tears in her eyes.

"Well," The woman sniffled, then lifted a hand below her ribcage, "She’s about this tall, with dark red curly hair, and she wears blue. She’s also 5 years old if that helps."

Erin mentally took those characteristics in, keeping them tightly in her mind. Although Erin had gotten better at it, there were still times when she struggled to remember all of a person’s features.

’Someone so young on another planet... Born at the time the peace treaty was made.’

"Woah, hold on," Del got between the two, "There is no way I’m letting any of my students go off on their own. We already had a missing student report yesterday!"

"Then I’ll go with her."

They turned around to see Quinn in his red plaid pajama pants and a gray shirt looking determined.

"Are you so empty headed as to forget that there were TWO students missing?" Del repeated.

Ignoring him, Erin asked, "And do you know where your daughter would’ve gone?"

"I don’t know," The woman said, "But she couldn’t have gone far."

Del’s eye twitched, "What did I just say—"

"Don’t worry, we’ll find her," Quinn said, then nodded to Erin, "Come on."

"If you disobey my orders, and do not remain here then I’ll—" Del nearly shouted as he stomped his foot.

"Or you’ll what? Send ’our precious resources for frivolous tasks’?" Quinn spat out.

Before Del could reply further, Erin hopped over the bridge fence, and rolled on the ground. Quinn followed behind her, turning the ground into gravel for a softer landing.

Although Erin’s stats were reduced due to the sun, she always kept her Paleneedle rapier on hand for these specific occasions. It would boost her strength up to a 12, and her agility up to a 13, enough to be slightly above natural human strength.

Without thinking, they just picked a random direction. They would figure out the details later. Once they were out of sight of the people at the shelter, Erin put on her wingedlizard body armor using shadow equip.

Similarly, she used the same skill on Quinn, changing his pajamas out for his usual attire.

"Why do you have my clothes in your shadow space?" Quinn asked.

"Are you going to complain about not wearing pajamas in the jungle?" Erin returned.

He could argue about this, but found that it wasn’t worth the effort. There were bigger matters to deal with.

"I think I smell a human nearby," Erin said, "Come on."

Erin sprinted towards the direction of the scent with Quinn following right behind.

Near a river, a little girl with coily dark red hair was cowering in fear as a venus flytrap-like beast towered over her.

It had roots for legs, and leaves for arms as well as a giant head that could swallow the child whole.

The girl cried, "Ahhh! Please don’t eat me!"

Just then, Erin and Quinn arrived on scene. Quinn formed his armor, and Erin took out her sword.

"That’s the girl," she said

It looked to be a dangerous beast, but with the two of them, they had no doubts that they couldn’t take it down.

Quinn shifted the ground under the girl to slide her out of harm’s way, and behind both him and Erin.

Erin lunged with her rapier, slashing at the beast’s vines and roots. It tried to bite at her, but she flashstepped away. She did this a few times, and the beast lunged at her again, only for its head to get caught in a wall of shadow.

Then, Quinn lifted a pillar right underneath his feet, shooting him into the air, and slammed a massive earth fist onto its back, causing a loud crunch that sounded like celery snapping in half.

The beast’s head flung back, and opened its jaw. One of his current weaknesses was that he wasn’t very fast while he had his rock armor on, so he allowed himself to get bit. However, he lifted the earth under himself to reinforce his armor as the beast tried to bite harder.

Using as much MC as possible, he forced the earth to expand, pushing against the Walking Planteater’s jaw, and slid himself out of danger. Then, he got in front of the girl, and formed a thick earth wall between him and the beast.

Opening its mouth, the beast fired a jet stream of acid, dissolving the stoney wall in seconds. He burned through his MC repairing the wall as it was melting.

"Are we going to die?" The girl squealed.

"Not if I can help it," Quinn muttered.

At the same time, Erin flung two blood swipes on the beast’s back to gather its attention.

The beast ran out of acid to spit, and turned around to swat at the annoying fly that was Erin, but before she could continue the fight, a softball sized rock was thrown into the beast’s head, instantly killing it. When they all looked to see what would’ve defeated the beast so quickly, they saw a handsome looking man with long black hair bellowing in the wind.

’Arthur?’ Quinn thought.

The little girl peeked through her fingers, and saw the man for himself.

"Who are you?!" She cried pointing at him.

When the students first arrived at the shelter, the girl had recognized Erin from her white beast gear, and although she didn’t remember Quinn’s face, she assumed he was part of Erin’s team due to his age. The same couldn’t be said for the stranger in front of her.

Arthur, however, was nonchalant, "Young lady, what’s your name?"

"Um..." The girl whispered, and curled into herself, "My mom told me not to tell my name to strangers."

"What are you doing so far away from your mom?" Erin spoke in a harsh tone.

Her voice made the girl’s tears return, and she cowered, "I don’t know."

"Now now, that is no way to talk to a child," Arthur interjected.

Erin bit her tongue, but crouched down to the girl’s side, "Fine, what’s your name?"

The little girl sniffled, wiping away a tear with her sleeve, "Uh... My name is Minny," then whispered, "Sorry..."

Minny looked down, feeling guilty. She hadn’t meant to cause trouble, and now she feared she was going to get in trouble for having two students come save her.

"Don’t cry, Minny," Erin stated, "Tears won’t fix the problem, but becoming better will."

Quinn thought it was strange words to tell a child, but he didn’t have any comforting words to give himself. He had a thought that they were words that Erin was told once, but he didn’t know for sure.

"And what are you doing here?" Erin asked as she stood up, turning to face Arthur.

"I’ve been trying to investigate the cause of my people’s disappearance," Arthur said, "however, in my investigation, I came across the shelter and overhead that your class isn’t going to be at this planet forever."

"I do not know what the state of this shelter will be in the future, but I do not want the same fate that happened to my people to happen to the humans on this planet. I decided to keep watch of this shelter from afar even after you return from your expedition."

Arthur then smiled, "But for the time being, while we are both on this planet, there is something I want to do. Since you didn’t have a teacher to teach you the shadow, how about I become that teacher for you?"
