Even though Erin and her team were doing their best to accumulate points, it had come as a shock to find out that she had gained 100. Too shocking even. The numbers didn’t seem to match up with what she thought her team had.

Still, with a target on her back, it meant that they were going to need to keep a close eye on their team, and to make sure they don’t lose their position.

Del activated the scanners, and a few immediately left to go deeper into the jungle, but a few didn’t. Instead some had only partially left the lake, watching Erin’s team.

"This may be an issue," Fex said.

"Let’s just go ahead and scan the area," Erin whispered, "I am not going to let them get in the way of a good grade."

’And this may provide a good opportunity to use my new sword.’

Similarly, Quinn was hoping to get something out of this trip, namely a chance to improve his earth ability.

’If I manage to push myself further, just like I did when I reached level 2, then that could be the key to growing stronger,’ Quinn thought.

The group headed into the jungle, keeping an eye out incase anyone was getting too close. Just like yesterday, they had Layla scan the fauna, and Erin using the inspect skill to search for any beasts.

Erin nodded to Layla, indicating for her to come to her side, "Layla, stick close to me."

"But why?" Layla whispered.

"I don’t want anything to happen to you," Erin whispered back.

"You should know that I’m strong enough to defend myself, you know?" Layla said, "And I have my good bow too."

Since Layla’s old bow was broken, Erin hadn’t taken back the king tier bow into her shadow. It was a bit of a shame that it meant Layla couldn’t use the starlingshot to pretend to have the telekinesis ability, but with the replicatibow’s speed boost, it would hopefully give Layla enough reaction time to aim accurately.

"When I left you alone yesterday, your body got cut in half," Erin whispered back, "I am not risking that again."

Upon hearing that, Layla drooped a little, but not enough for Erin to notice.

In a slightly different area, another team had split up into groups of two and three, searching for beasts to scan. However, they found that they couldn’t seem to hear anything.

"Are you sure you haven’t heard a single beast?" A kid said to his friend.

"I swear it!" a girl replied with large ears.

Her ability was super hearing, and although it was only level 2, her team was hoping to use her ability to get as many points as possible.

"Ugh, I swear you learning that ability was a mistake," the kid quietly muttered.

"HEY! I heard that!" she shouted into his ear, "Apologize now!"

"Fine! Fine! That ability is the best thing you could’ve learned!" he cried.

"There! Now that’s—" The girl began saying with a smile, before it faltered, "Wait, I think I hear—"

She turned towards the source of the sound, which a second later, the boy was able to see leaves rustling in the distance.

"Make a weapon, quick!" She whispered.

The boy made a simple ice spear the size of a ruler, and threw it at the rustling bushes. They heard a yelp, and they glanced at each other before running to the impaled creature.

"Ew, what a weird looking beast," The girl said, holding her scanner up to it, "It’s all gross and oily. You touch it."

The boy rolled his eyes, and created a simple ice knife to start cutting into it.

Even though the scanner had beeped indicating that it had scanned the creature, it showed a large X on the screen, and said what she scanned wasn’t a beast.

"Huh? Is this thing broken?" She slapped it on the side, and tried scanning it again, but it said the same thing again.

"Must be because you scanned it after I killed it," The boy muttered.

"No, I swear I scanned it before that!"

"Hmm..." The boy stuck his tongue out, and kept digging into the strange dog-like beast, but he was struggling to find a single crystal.

’Do I just suck, or is there something weird about this beast?’ He thought.

As Erin’s group was traveling through the jungle, Erin heard the sound of water slashing at something to her left.

At first, she was trying to figure out what was causing the sound, as that would allow her to react accordingly. Then, the sounds of wood cracking ensued, and her eyes widened.

"Falling tree!" she shouted.

A moment later, a tree nearly 3 stories tall was falling towards them.

"I got this," Quinn said as he stomped on the ground, causing a pillar of stone to rise, catching the tree midair.

However, that wasn’t the only one as more and more trees fell in their direction from all sides. Quinn used his ability again to catch the trees, and pushed them off to the side.

"I had a feeling they would target us, but don’t they know about the 50 point deduction?" Layla said.

Just then, they heard someone cry out in pain as a boy was on the floor holding his knee next to one of the trees.

"It hurts, it hurts! He dropped the tree on me!" The boy loudly complained.

Del walked over towards the source of the sound, and looked at the very clearly obvious attempt on Erin’s team, then to the boy on the ground.

"Well, someone here clearly landed a hit on this poor boy," Del said in an almost sarcastic way, "What happened to have caused this injury?"

"That guy with the blue glasses dropped this tree on me!" The boy said, pointing at Quinn.

"Really?" Del emphasized, "Well I guess they have no choice but to get a 50 point deduction!"

"That’s not fair!" Layla cried out, "They cut down several trees—"

"The boy is clearly injured, missus," Del taunted, "And I’m sorry, but I don’t make the rules."

Layla stared at Del, and clenched her fists tightly. The idea of eating him right then and there entered her mind, but Quinn put his hand on her shoulder.

"Don’t fight him on it," Quinn said.

"Are you really going to give up that easily?" Layla whispered.

Quinn’s face remained neutral, "No."

Del smiled, and turned around with a hop to his step. Paying attention to how he walked, Quinn lifted a finger, causing the tiniest bit of stone to rise around Del’s feet, and began walking off.

"Come on guys, let’s go."

The teacher was so overjoyed with getting back at Erin that he didn’t even notice what Quinn had done, and tripped, falling face first into mud.

"Grr, I swear if you—" Del said, turning around to scold Erin’s group, but they were already gone.

Just when Del was about to get a moment of revenge, his mood was ruined again.

’Those damn kids! I bet it was Quinn who did that. This is WAR!’
