Getting punished for distracting Del was something Erin was ready to endure. After all, this was all for Layla’s sake, and she didn’t want anything bad to happen to Layla again, but receiving a collective punishment was troublesome, especially since Vorden and Quinn were out, and nowhere near here.
They could just say that the two were missing, but that might bring a separate series of issues. Namely, if one of the Sergeants were sent to find them, and saw they were holding the corpse of a student, then there was no way they could get Layla to eat it.
"Fine, let us get our teammates then," Erin lied, and turned to Fex and Layla, "Come on, they’re on the other side."
Fex and Layla looked a bit shocked, but they listened, and followed Erin away from Del’s earshot. As they were "searching" for their teammates, Del followed closely behind, keeping them within his view.
"Do you have some sort of plan?" Fex whispered.
"Yes," Erin quietly responded, "I am going to use my influence skill to make him forget about this."
Fex nearly did a spit take. He knew that while Erin was very strong, the same couldn’t be said about her charm skill. Erin often came to him for blood since he could use influence to make people forget he was draining them of blood, and he believed that Erin’s charm wasn’t as strong since she always came to him about that.
"Are you sure you should do that?" Fex whispered, "Your charm skill isn’t very strong."
"My charm skill is very strong!" Erin harshly whispered back.
"Uh huh," Fex stared back at her unamused, "I’ll be the one to use the influence skill on him."
The trio stopped away from the prying eyes of any students, which had confused Del.
"Where are your teammates?" Del asked, raising an eyebrow.
Erin, Fex, and Layla slowly turned around, a strange vibe emanating off of them.
Del took a step back, watching them. There was a sense that they were going to do something malicious, but what? He was an adult, and they were children, how could they hope to go against him?
"If you think you’re going to—" Del began, but Fex just stared at him, eyes glowing red.
"You changed your mind about how you were going to punish us, and decided to lightly punish only us three," Fex slowly spoke.
Del’s eyes became glazed over, and his face was extremely calm and still. Then he blinked then stared at the group. The moment lasted what felt like a few very long minutes, and Erin’s team began to sweat, worried that the influence might’ve not gone through.
"I... Well, this may come as a bit of a shock, but..." Del began saying after so much awkward silence, "I think I’ll only reduce your punishment by subtracting 10 points for every person involved."
Layla stared in shock at how easy it was, but had to remind herself that this is one of the capabilities of vampires. It was just a bit startling seeing it affect someone so easily.
"Oh no!" Fex tried to say in a scared tone of voice, but it came off as sarcastic, "30 points is a pretty penalty to our score!"
Despite Fex’s bad acting, Del nodded with a smirk.
’Yeah, these kids don’t even know I could be punishing them even more!’ He thought to himself.
With that, Del returned to where he was before, leaving Erin’s team to chat amongst themselves.
"That’s right, you can influence Del," Layla quietly said, "We should influence Del to stay here for over an hour."
"About that," Fex said, "I don’t know just how capable he is to defend against my influence like that. Usually, this skill works best on younger people like us, but adults?"
Fex grimaced, and stared off in the distance, "It usually doesn’t end well. And even if it does work, they might figure out something is wrong and that leads to even more trouble."
"We don’t have a lot of good options either," Erin pointed out, "We should—"
Midway through her sentence, Erin loudly sneezed into her elbow, a line of snot coming out of it. Erin was still partially affected by the strange mucus, even if it was wearing off.
The two nearly burst out into laughter at the ridiculous sight, but feared if they did, Erin would hit them.
"Not. A. Word." Erin nasally threatened in a low voice.
Fex with tears in his eyes and a hand over his mouth quickly nodded, but Layla couldn’t keep it in anymore, and burst out laughing.
"Why was that so funny?" Layla giggled, then fanned her face and took in a deep breath, "Sorry, sorry... We gotta focus."
Erin glared at her for a second, then looked away, "Let’s wait a bit before Fex influences him. At least until Del decides it’s time to move."
Layla and Fex nodded, and Layla’s stomach growled, as if agreeing. A bit of blush appeared on the girl’s face, and she looked off to the side, embarrassed.
"I really can’t wait for my food to arrive..."
During the few minutes they were waiting, Erin checked her messages to see if Quinn had sent something, and to check her system for any other notifications.
[Effects of the Kilton blood sword has worn off]
[Successful hits: 0/5]
When checking the sword’s bar, it was fully greyed out, completely empty. It made sense that it wore off so fast since it didn’t absorb that much blood in the first place, but Erin did miss the speed somewhat. Then another notification screen popped up.
[You are no longer poisoned]
That was something Erin was thankful for. The vampiric immunity sped up the healing process greatly, and her reaction speed was back at its normal pace. Hopefully this also meant she wouldn’t sneeze any more long lines of snot again.
Speaking of which, she turned to look at Layla, who was partially hunched over holding her stomach, and breathing more heavily.
"I..." Layla gulped nervously, "I think me recovering from the sickness made things worse."
