Blood Queen Reborn

Layla was holding her stomach tightly, a look of pain on her face. Her stomach audibly growled again, and she turned to Erin.

"It’s getting kinda bad," She said with a strained voice.

{Erin} Quinn, just where are you!?

{Quinn} We just got started burrowing into the mountain.

Upon hearing that, Erin nearly cursed under her breath. They still needed to wait for a good while until they returned, and it wasn’t the good news she wanted to tell Layla.

"So, how long?" Layla said.

She knew Erin was able to communicate with Quinn, and with her silence for a few moments, she was thinking that Erin was talking with the other group. However, Erin remained silent, and Layla knew it was going to take a while.

"Ah, so..." Layla whispered, then tried to make a light hearted joke, "I should start getting used to these hunger pains then?"

Fex looked around, and put a hand on his chin, "I’m sure if we cut off some annoying person’s finger, that’ll help Layla out."

Immediately, Layla closed her eyes, and covered her face with her hands, "No! Stop talking about food in front of me!"

She gulped a mouthful of spit, and turned to a tree with bark on it, "Maybe I can eat this instead? I mean, I once had a diet of prune juice, and I spent too much time on the toilet, but maybe it won’t be like that with this?"

"Layla, stop rambling," Erin coldly stated.

"I mean, how can I not? There’s nothing stopping me from going and eating a random student out!" Layla harshly whispered.

Just then, a student walked by, and stared at Layla super confused, then thought about for a second, and wiggled his eyebrows, "Well, if you’re so willing—"

"Get out!" Both Layla and Erin shouted at him.

The boy raised his arms defensively, and ran off.

"... Maybe I could eat him—" Layla whispered.

"No." Erin glared at her.

"See, this is why whenever vampires turn someone into a ghoul, they prepare 7 people beforehand," Fex commented, "There’s just so much trouble if you don’t."

"We don’t have 7 people to sacrifice, Fex," Erin shot back, "And this conversation has gone on long enough. Del is probably about to say we should move on by now."

Within Erin’s ear shot, she couldn’t hear a lot of audible beeps from the scanners, which meant that it was almost time.

The trio returned back to their teacher early before the other students did, as they were going to need as much privacy as possible. Del turned to them, about to ask what they wanted, when Fex’s eyes glowed again.

"Wait another 15 minutes before you decide to change locations."

Yet again, Del blinked, but this time, he held his head, and looked at his watch.

"Hey, how long have I been here?" Del said, scratching the back of his neck, "I feel like it’s been 15 minutes, but I’m not entirely sure."

"It’s only been 10 seconds," Fex said, which made the girls want to slap him with such an obvious lie.

"Really?" Del glanced at his watch, then towards the sunlight, but then remembered that the tree leaves were blocking the sun, "I guess I have no choice but to take your word for it."

Fex nodded, and returned back to the jungle, with the other two following closely behind.

"Whew, I can’t believe that worked," Fex said, proud of himself, "Although we probably can’t do that again. If I use influence on the same person a bunch of times, it starts to affect them, and they realize that something is clearly wrong. Imagine if you kept forgetting a bunch of stuff all at once, you’d think you went crazy or something."

Erin nodded, taking it in. Even though the charm skill had its weaknesses, it was definitely quite useful today. At first, she was against upgrading it as she didn’t want to get anymore bothered about her looks than she already did, but now that she was plenty strong, she could fight off any potential creeps.

Opening up her chat system again, Erin began typing.

{Erin} What’s taking you guys so long? We don’t have much time.

{Quinn} About that...

Just a few minutes prior, Vorden and Quinn were making a new tunnel into the mountain. Due to the fact that they arrived at the mountain without much of a plan, they unfortunately didn’t have any lighting to see in the dark. However, Quinn was improving one of his techniques with his ability.

By touching the stoney ground, Quinn was able to feel the rest of the stone attached to it, and get a sense of what was stone, and what wasn’t. Of course, this had a limited radius as Quinn couldn’t feel the entire planet, but it was enough to know where to go to the closest tunnel.

"Alright if we go that way," Quinn pointed in a direction, "Then the stone should be thin enough to push to the side easily without using too much MC."

Vorden nodded, and the two worked together to further deepen the cave. As they did, Vorden couldn’t help but think about how skilled Quinn was with his ability. Usually, when it came to most ability users, they stuck to the basics of their ability, but Quinn was using his more creatively.

"How do you know how to use the earth like that?" Vorden asked, "I’ve seen a lot of ability users, but none have been able to use it as well as you do."

"This isn’t that strong, I’m only level 4," Quinn replied, "I need to figure out how to get stronger, but even though I’ve been practicing a lot, I can’t reach the 5th level."

Suddenly, Vorden got a little worried. Sometimes, there was a natural limit on a person’s body, where they could only reach a certain level, and were stuck at that despite reading books to improve their ability. With this came a burning sensation, as if their body was actively hurting itself to make more MC it couldn’t produce.

"And this isn’t from your MC capping out, right?" Vorden wondered.

Quinn pushed the earth a little more, "No, I know about the burning sensation, and that isn’t it. I need to figure out what to do to reach the 5th level."

Although they had tried to train the other day, that hadn’t pushed him to the next level. There was the option of buying a level 5 book, but they weren’t common, and very expensive. He could’ve asked Erin, or even Logan to buy it for him, but he didn’t want to depend on them for money, and was hoping he could just brute force it.

Vorden hummed, thinking about how it felt whenever he used a level 5 ability.

"When I use the earth ability... Compared to the 4th level and the 5th level, its like knowing addition to learn subtraction in a way. When using the 4th level, I feel like there’s something missing compared to the 5th level, like I can’t control earth at the 4th level if I can’t see it. I have to constantly focus and look at it in order to move a boulder off the ground."

Quinn took it in, and was realizing that was the missing thing in his learning. It was simple, but that’s what made it easy to forget.

As he was lost in thought, they felt a familiar pressure build in the air, and they turned around to spot the silhouette of a tall figure staring at them, then chuckled.

"I go to block off all of the entrances to this place, and you two start making a new one. You are quite the troublesome group, aren’t you?"
