Blood Queen Reborn

Both of the boys stared at the tall figure in front of them, and watched as the figure stepped deeper into the cave. There Vorden and Quinn were able to see him better as their eyes had adjusted to the dimmer lighting.

It was then they saw the figure was Arthur, and the two began to fear a little that Arthur was going to have problems with them trying to enter the mountain. After all, it would be easy to guess that he closed off all the entrances for a reason, and here they were trying to break in.

"Now what are you two doing?" Arthur casually asked.

Seeing as they weren’t confident enough in lying to a powerful ancient vampire, Vorden decided to tell the truth.

"Are you seriously just going to tell him everything?" Raten commented in the mind space.

"You try lying to someone like that," Vorden retorted, "If anything, I think this is the kind of guy who would pry the truth out of you if you try going against him."

He told him that they were hoping to find a body for one of their friends, namely for Layla. Arthur nodded, understanding, as he had smelled an undead amongst their group a while back.

"I see, and you’re expecting that the bodies inside of the mountain will be preserved enough? Your undead friend seems to be quite the hungry person, if anything, you two should be sleeping with one eye open."

Arthur said that with a jokey tone, although Vorden and Quinn didn’t find it very funny.

"If that is everything that you require, then..." Arthur stepped to the side, as right where he just was, a shadowy copy of himself appeared.

Just as quickly as the shadow appeared, Arthur’s body enveloped in shadow, and he disappeared.

They wondered just what the strange shadow skill he used was, as well as what he was going to do. It just stared at them, as if telling them to stay still.

Not knowing what to do in the mean time, Quinn opened up his chat system to get an update, and saw a new message from Erin.

{Erin} What’s taking you guys so long? We don’t have much time.

Quinn glared at the system screen. Didn’t she know he was going as fast as he can? It wasn’t like he wanted to starve Layla.

{Quinn} About that...

He updated Erin on the situation up to the current point, filling her in about Arthur appearing suddenly, as well as the strange shadow skill. He had seemed to disappear in the same way that he appeared in front of Erin yesterday, making Quinn think he used shadow to shadow, but with who?

Before Erin could respond, Arthur appeared right where the shadow clone was, and he was holding a leg with two hands.

"This should help for the time being," Arthur said, handing it to Quinn.

The two stared in shock. They were told by Arthur that he wasn’t able to connect his shadow to any other shadow user in the universe except for Erin, so how was he able to use his ability to teleport away.

"You two may be wondering how I was able to use my shadow to teleport into the cave, are you not?" Arthur noted, "This is a technique I was planning on teaching Erin where by placing a shadow clone of myself, I could use it as a way point to teleport to it at any time. I have a few of these around as they are quite handy."

He handed the leg to Quinn, and found it was surprisingly heavy, a few pounds most likely. It did lead to the question of how they were going to bring this to Layla without people looking at them suspiciously.

"You’re lucky I was around keeping an eye on you lot," Arthur jested, "Next time you need something from here, try knocking first."

With that, shadows enveloped Arthur, and he was gone for real this time, taking his shadow clone with him. Since they had the leg now, they needed to figure out how to hide it.

Quinn quickly made a stoney box for the leg, and placed it inside. Even though it was bent at the knee, it was quite a noticeably large box, the size of a backpack. Then, he put a lid on it.

"That should keep it covered for the time being," Quinn said.

"We’ll need to figure out how to get Layla to eat it without others noticing" Vorden pointed out, then shook his head, "But let’s figure that out when we come back."

They left the cave, and headed back to the area where they last saw the others in their team.

{Quinn} We got her food. We’re heading back now.

Erin got the message that they were on their way back now, and told Layla of the news.

She let out a sigh of relief, but her stomach growling said otherwise.

’Just a few more minutes, and I don’t have to worry about killing someone.’

By now, most of the students had returned back to Del as they were unable to scan any more new things.

"Alright everyone, it’s been long enough," Del shouted, "It’s time to leave this spot."

Immediately, Erin, Fex and Layla turned towards him and shouted, "What?!"

Del glared at them, "You heard me, it’s time to go."

"But what about our team members?" Layla said, "Should we wait for them first?"

"The longer we wait here, the more we’ll attract beasts," Del spoke in a condescending way.

In reality, Del didn’t mind leaving Quinn behind as the boy still bothered him because of his actions that morning, and didn’t think Vorden was anyone special. If he had known Vorden came from a powerful Original family, he would’ve thought otherwise, but his records only held sparse details about his past.

To make sure they couldn’t argue further, Del began walking ahead. He didn’t even send a signal out indicating to return back as the only missing students were from Erin’s team.

Erin scowled at Del. She wanted Fex to use the influence skill on him again, but there were just too many people around. Instead, she updated Quinn on the situation, and told him that the class was moving again despite her efforts.

{Quinn} Tell us where you are heading, and we’ll find you half way.

Over on Quinn’s side, he touched the ground, and quickly spun up a lie about how he could tell the others were moving by using his ability. Vorden was a little confused ]if that was even possible as he was sure Quinn couldn’t sense things that far away, but in his mind, Quinn had no reason to lie.

By reading Erin’s messages, Quinn was able to guess where the class was going. They were heading out of the deeper jungle, and towards a grassy plains area. By making a pillar for himself, Quinn was able to lift both himself, and Vorden up in the air to search for the area in question.

Finding that it wasn’t too far, Quinn lowered the pillar, and they quickly ran over in that direction.

"Alright, this seems like a good spot," Del stated as he activated the scanners again.

Everyone began to spread out again, but Layla stood startling still, closing her eyes shut.

"Fex, I think you need to sow my nose shut," She whispered.

"Won’t that just injure you more and make you even more hungrier?" Fex commented.

"But at least I won’t smell all this rich tasty meat," Layla quietly responded.

Just then, they heard the sounds of a pair of people coming their way. They turned around and saw Quinn with Vorden close behind holding a large box. Immediately, they knew they were saved, however, this had garnered the attention of a few students, and they wondered what was inside.

Did they find treasure? Riches? Why else would they purposely stay behind unless there was something valuable they wanted to get.

Either way, it meant that they were going to need to find a way to get Layla fed without anyone noticing.
