Chapter 113: Chapter 113: Passing the Test

Facing the sudden storm of bullets, Keston, Bella, and Joseph quickly took cover behind a large rock.

Black Knight Aaron stood still, letting the gunfire hit him without moving an inch.

Only when the Survivors raised weapons like RPG launchers did Black Knight Aaron dodge slightly, taking a defensive stance.

But just as he was mockingly waiting for Franky and Nami to run out of ammo, a dark figure suddenly rushed toward him.

Boom! A huge force slammed into Black Knight Aaron.

He quickly shifted his strength to his legs, cracking the ground beneath him.

"Justin! Are you insane?" Black Knight Aaron recognized the attacker as Justin.

He roared, turned, and threw Justin to the ground with a shoulder throw.

But Justin showed no signs of calming down.

He growled, bypassed Black Knight Aaron, and charged at Joseph and Bella. "You two bastards! You left me to die! You deserve to die!"

Just as Justin’s fist was about to hit Joseph’s face, Joseph sighed. "Calm down!"

With that, his muscles bulged, and he lit up the same Rune as Justin’s [Resonance Amplification].

Boom!

Their fists met and then separated.

Both Justin and Joseph stepped back three paces, leaving deep craters in the ground.

Black Knight Aaron raised an eyebrow and praised, "So this is the Twin Talent? Ha, interesting. I just wonder which one of you will swallow the other."

Hearing this, Joseph glared at Black Knight Aaron. "Stop trying to drive a wedge between us, or I’ll fight you to the death."

Justin also shot a glare at Black Knight Aaron and stopped his attack.

"Joseph and Bella leaving me behind to run away? We’ll settle that after we leave this island," Justin said, walking alone into the deep forest on the island.

After all, he and Joseph were twin brothers, and he didn’t want to have a falling out in front of outsiders.

But after being abandoned, Justin could no longer trust Bella and Joseph at all.

Joseph sighed. He didn’t try to stop Justin. Instead, he quietly followed behind Black Knight Aaron.

Seeing this, Keston mocked him, "Looks like your brother is way more likeable than you."

Joseph snorted. "If you don’t like me, you can go with Justin."

Keston waved his hand. "I only go with Bella."

Black Knight Aaron snorted. "Your little family drama is over. Time to get down to business."

He turned to look at Franky and Nami and the others, grinning wide. "Speaking of which, I didn’t get to have much fun last night. You humans will make a perfect breakfast."

As he spoke, Black Knight Aaron spread his bat wings.

He moved faster and faster, then took a running start and flew high into the air.

But just as he dive-bombed toward Nami, the air around him suddenly rippled like water.

Nami, Franky, and the Survivors with them all vanished like bubbles.

Only then did Black Knight Aaron realize he had been tricked. "Damn it! It’s an illusion. They slipped into the forest ages ago. Curses!"

Furious, he ignored Joseph and Bella and charged into the woods, chasing after Franky and Nami.

The forest on the island was like a maze.

Kevin led the five girls for a full ten minutes before they finally made it through the maze and reached a lake.

"Good thing we have a map, or we’d be wandering around that maze forever," Celula complained as she stepped onto her Wheels of Flame & Wind, scanning the surroundings.

Kevin looked at the map, compared it to the lake’s position, and said quietly, "The door to the treasure is under this lake. But it looks like we need to pass a guardian’s test to get the key."

"Test?" Nova frowned. "Doesn’t the group of Eldritch Conches outside count as a test?"

Kevin shook his head and walked slowly toward the lake. "No. The real test is in this lake."

As soon as he finished speaking, he picked up a rock and threw it into the middle of the lake.

Soon, bubbles rose from the surface, and thick fog began to billow up, as if the water was boiling.

Kevin could vaguely see through the fog that the lake water was rising.

Then, a huge figure like a hill emerged from the water.

It kept releasing bubbles, and each bubble reflected different scenes of light and shadow.

Kevin and the girls stared at these bubbles, and soon fell into a mental illusion.

The six of them, who had been standing by the lake, suddenly appeared on a hill covered with bones and corpses.

Kevin stepped on the bones beneath his feet, making a crunching sound.

A stench hit their noses, making them feel sick.

...

The constant drop in Sanity immediately put them on alert.

They exchanged glances, and after confirming that everyone was affected by the Sanity loss, Kevin shouted: "Who the hell is that? Show yourself! Or I’ll blow this whole hill to pieces!"

Kevin’s curse worked.

Most of the Whispering Curse around their ears quickly faded away.

Then Nova started humming a song, clearing the remaining whispers completely.

The hill beneath their feet began to flow like waves.

Nova lost her footing and fell right into a pile of bones.

Just as she was about to be buried by the bones, Celula quickly grabbed Nova’s arm and lifted her into the air.

Then, Kevin with Amelia, and Eliana with Raphael — all six of them flew up into the sky.

Only then did they see that the hill of bones they had been standing on was actually a terrifying human face.

And the spot where they had just been standing was exactly the nose of that face.

Seeing this, the girls heard the sound of Sanity dropping again.

...

Kevin’s eyes turned dark. "Drink the [Tear of the Goddess] now. This thing is a Lord-level Eldritch Entity."

As soon as he said that, Kevin summoned a large swarm of drones.

In an instant, Vulcan Cannons, Military Armored Vehicle main guns, and RPG Launchers unloaded a storm of firepower.

But no matter how many explosions hit that giant face, the Eldritch Entity didn’t even flinch. In fact, it just kept laughing like crazy.

Seeing this, Kevin’s expression grew darker.

He kept commanding the drones to increase the firepower, while quietly summoning the Lance of Longinus.

Right now, he was equipped with the [Mantis Fist], and the gauntlets lit up with a bright glow.

[Stamina -15]

"HAH!"

With a sharp shout, Kevin raised both arms and hurled the lance straight at the giant face.

Charged Strike activated.

With Kevin’s strong Strength stat, Charged Strike dealt a full three hundred percent critical damage.

Under the true damage effect of the Lance of Longinus, the giant face’s laughter suddenly stopped and turned into a painful scream.

Kevin sneered. "You want to laugh? Laugh all you want!"

He summoned another Lance of Longinus and threw another Charged Strike just like before.

At the same time, Kevin pulled out a bottle of Holy Spring and gulped it down.

The Stamina he had just used was fully restored.

After three consecutive strikes, the arrogant giant face in front of him had completely lost its momentum. Even its screams had turned into sobbing.

But as Kevin kept thrusting his lance, he noticed something strange.

"Something’s off. This thing is wrong." Kevin immediately stopped the drone bombardment.

When all the smoke cleared, Kevin saw that the giant face had shattered into pieces.

In its place were hundreds of identical faces.

Every lance Kevin had thrown had only killed one of those faces. The rest of the hundreds of faces were completely unharmed.

When those faces saw that Kevin had figured out the truth, they showed a mocking grin and started laughing again.

But this time, the laughter was even more terrifying, and Kevin heard the sound of his Sanity dropping once more.

...

"Damn it!"

Kevin shouted and quickly retreated back to the girls.

After that mental shock, he knew the girls couldn’t handle this kind of continuous damage.

So Kevin immediately activated ’Blessing of Light.’

Except for Eliana and Raphael, every girl there got a boost of fifteen percent of Kevin’s Spirit stat — a total of 3 extra Spirit points.

It was only a small increase, but for the girls who didn’t have high Spirit stats, it was a huge help.

Seeing the girls’ faces slowly improve, Kevin quickly handed each of them a bottle of [Tear of the Goddess]. "No matter what happens next, just stay here and defend. Make sure you keep your health above eighty percent at all times."

Kevin turned to look at the hundreds of faces left and said coldly, "Don’t think I can’t handle you."

As soon as he said that, Kevin activated the damage-sharing mode of [Covenant of the Saint].

Then he drank another bottle of [Thousand-Armed Octopus Holy Spring], and eight arms quickly stretched out from his back.

Like a demon god, he dropped from the sky and roared, "Let’s see how many faces you’ve got!"

Kevin dove into the sea of Eldritch faces like an artillery shell.

Soon, the laughter of those faces turned into angry roars.

They bared their teeth and opened their jaws wide, surrounding Kevin like crazed beasts.

Every face showed a different expression, but they all shared one thing — a bloody mouth full of terrifying Eldritch energy.
