Breeding System:My Five Beast Husbands Want Heirs
Chapter 196: Evil since day one. . . past memoriesMira shut her eyes then opened it again and stared at the mist scenery.
She still saw the fox tail and ears. She pulled a hand away from Ming Tao and rubbed it against both eyes then stared at the mist again. She did not imagine it, the old owner of this body was a proper beast when she was a cub.
So. . . Mira swallowed. . . . What changed?
Mira turned her head backwards to stare at her behind. She had no tail. She used her free hand, the one she used to rub her eyes, to reach for her face and search for her fox ears which she already knew she did not have. There were no fox ears present.
Mira had human like ears and no tail yet the image before her suggested that it should not have been so.
"Oh my goodness, why did you kill it, Hye Yang?!" Blurred through Mira’s ears and she returned her focus to the mist scenery.
"It was a toad. It looked ugly and got on my nerves so I ended its life." Hye Yang spat, completely unbothered.
Mira blinked, she did not know how this childhood memory was related to the current issue at hand but she did not complain and could not help but be stunned. Right from childhood, Hye Yang had been evil, yikes! It was as if she had evil inbred into her as a manufacturer setting.
"But it did you no wrong. Be kind to the normal animals, let them live and go back to their families." Little cub Mira said. She walked to the toad Hye Yang had squashed with a rock then picked it up with her bare hands. "I will give you a good burial, toad. Rest well." Young Mira said.
"Oh my days, what is that?!" Blared from the other side and the mist created a figure. An adult female beast woman and a man entered the scenery.
"It’s a toad, mama." Young Mira said. "It’s dead."
The adult female looked at the toad before coming to Mira. "How did it die? This does not look ordinary." The fox beast woman asked. She placed a hand on young Mira’s shoulder.
Hye Yang stood at the end, watching them. Even in this scenery, it looked like she was not even there. The fox beast woman had paid her no attention nor said a word to her and the fox beast man that arrived with her was at young Mira’s other side.
"She killed it, mama." Hye Yang stated. "Mira ended the life of the toad simply because she could."
[ It looks like this one was born a liar. ] System chimed. [ No wonder she does it effortlessly. ]
Mira giggled, what she just watched was not funny but system’s words were. Mira had no idea why she did not have these memories but she did not ask system why, not yet, she wanted to watch, after all, it could just be age that was the problem.
The young Mira turned to face young Hye Yang. She wanted to speak up and defend herself but Hye Yang flashed Mira a pleading look, this made Mira change her mind.
"I will do better next time, mama. I want to give him a fitting burial for my actions." Young Mira Yang stated.
A smirk curled onto Hye Yang’s lips at this. She crossed her hands over her chest and raised a brow. "Killing innocent animals should not go unpunished, especially for the one who is supposed to be ’destined’ for great things. She needs to learn, don’t you think, mama?" Hye Yang asked.
Mira did not say a word to defend herself, she just let it be. It was then the memory hit Mira like a wave. She remembered this moment. At that point, what young Mira was thinking was ’I need to protect my little sister because I love her and it is my duty’.
Mira let her hand cover her mouth as she gasped. Young Mira had always been so caring to Hye Yang yet Hye Yang was always, well, Hye Yang.
"Do not kill animals, child, it is not a good thing to do." The adult fox lady said nicely to Mira. "Now, let us go and get you that burial. I will give you some food to feed the frogs in the pond so you can rest guilt free. But never harm animals, Mira. Unless you need to hunt and feed, do not kill or cause pain aimlessly."
The adult male fox and the fox beast woman made their way out of the scene with little Mira who held the dead frog in both her hands while looking at her parents. Hye Yang was left alone there. And no one even responded to what she said. . . Almost like she did not exist. . .
The most scene faded into another, Mira’s head began to ache as memories of the childhood of the old owner of this body flooded through her mind yet in a blur. She knew these memories belonged to the old Mira but she could not make sense of most of them, they came and went like hazy visions.
What is happening to me, system? I thought I had all the memories of the old owner of this body yet new ones resurface in my mind, Mira asked system in her mind.
[ Brace yourself, host. What you are going through will happen again. ] System chimed. This did not give Mira an answer to her question but she decided not to ask.
Another memory formed in the midst. This time, the cubs were much older and Mira could see the subtle adolescent structure of their bodies because of their beast nature. They were still cubs, but growing cubs.
In this mist, Hye Yang was laughing and playing with some beast cubs around her age by what looked like stream. They were talking and laughing when Mira made her way to them. "I found the flower you asked me to get, sister." Young Mira panted. "It took a lot of bruises and scratches but I found it, here, take it. Use it for the important herb you wanted to make."
"Flower? What flower?" One of the beast cubs asked.
"The one that is not allowed to grow within the fox clan." Hye Yang whispered to them. "I hear it causes severe skin disease reactions. I cannot believe she was dumb enough to go looking for it, now all of us might get the allergic reaction." Hye Yang blurted out meanly, she laughed after and spoke out loudly now. "Do you not read the scribes and learn our culture? How could you not know?"
It did not take long before Mira began to itch her body. It was then she realised that the sores she accrued were not simply bruises but wounds caused by the flower.
Hye Yang thought the beast cubs by her side would laugh at Mira too but they did not.
"How could you?! You know how dangerous these are yet you sent her to get it!" One of them said and stood up.
"Quick, take Mira to the tribal chief."
All of them ran to little Mira Yang, leaving Hye Yang all alone. Hye Yang hated it. She hated that in one instant she did not matter to the cubs she called her friends and that they were all over her sister, again!
Another memory clashed against Mira’s existing one like a wave. Strangely, she remembered this day too. She had a severe reaction to the flower that it affected her breathing and she was separated from every single beast cub and adult in the tribe to be treated. Mira nearly lost her life that day and yet. . . When Hye Yang was brought in to be scolded. . . Mira took her side. Again. She talked about how it was not her sister’s fault and how Hye Yang probably sent her to get it because sit was rare and Hye Yang knew how much Mira loved rare things.
More memories formed in the mist, some Mira did not remember, some that Mira did and every single one played parts of their childhood of how Hye Yang was constantly being despicable and how Mira always took her side, over and over again.
And Hye Yang hated it. She hated that Mira was being nice to her. She hated that everyone was always on Mira’s side, she could not stand the love Mira got even though they both were loved the same way. The hate Hye Yang shared got so much that she nearly stabbed her sister in her sleep but stopped because people walked into the home the two of them were.
Everyone in the crowd looked surprised to see these memories unfold. The mist had a zap like it zoomed past countless memories till it got to their present day.
"I have finally cracked into her mind to the part that we all need to see." The shaman stated. "Please, pay attention and see the truth, oh great one."
