Building a Perfect Territory in the Mist

Chapter 45 - 41: Discovery of a Mysterious Resource Point

Chapter 45: Chapter 41: Discovery of a Mysterious Resource Point

By the time Shen Xing and Xia Wanyin rushed back to the territory, the battle was already over.

Near the village, only a field of triggered large bear traps remained, along with bits of fur and blood.

The Beastmen were cleaning up the battlefield, their faces flush with the joy of victory.

"Boss, you’re back!"

When Blood Roar saw the figures at the village entrance, he immediately reported excitedly, "A pack of blind wolf cubs tried to sneak attack us just now, but we sent them running with their tails between their legs!"

Dahou also raised his Dual Axes excitedly and boomed, "Haha! The boss is so thorough! You placed so many bear traps around the territory!"

"Those guys got caught and scurried away in a panic. They’d step on one, then step on another, and finally ran off with their tails between their legs!"

Shen Xing smiled and nodded, sighing in relief internally.

Although he had left a contingency plan before heading out, he hadn’t been entirely sure it would work.

From the looks of it, the effect of the bear traps was even better than he had imagined.

"Wow! Starfire, did you know Gideon would launch a sneak attack?" Xia Wanyin asked in surprise. "That’s amazing, isn’t it?"

"No, I just make it a habit to be overprepared."

Shen Xing replied, then looked toward the village entrance where two corpses were lying.

He wheeled his chair closer for a better look.

The two corpses looked no different from ordinary people, with Western features, except for the unusually thick hair on their faces.

"These are Werewolves. They transform during battle and have a total of three forms."

Xia Wanyin’s voice came from behind him, her pretty face showing a trace of anger. "It really is that guy Gideon. This is his main Soldier Type."

A contemplative look appeared in Shen Xing’s eyes as he asked, "Do you know the location of his territory?"

"I don’t," Xia Wanyin said, shaking her head. "He’s probably afraid of retaliation, so he’s extremely cautious."

"I’ve tried to find his territory before, but he always deliberately threw me off his trail."

After a pause, she asked tentatively, "Starfire, are you going to go after him?"

Shen Xing didn’t speak, his fingers tapping lightly on the armrest of his wheelchair, his eyes turning cold.

A guy like him, who preyed on other Lords, was the biggest destabilizing factor in the vicinity.

Besides, he had already found Shen Xing’s territory and would absolutely continue to target him.

Shen Xing didn’t believe for a second that a mere batch of bear traps would be enough to scare him off for good.

’This problem must be solved!’

"Starfire, if you’re going to deal with him, count me in."

Xia Wanyin volunteered, "I know some of his secrets. Besides, that guy is my enemy too. I’ve been wanting to settle the score with him for a long time."

Shen Xing nodded. "Alright. We’ll team up."

"If he attacks your territory anytime soon, message me immediately. I’ll bring people over to support you."

"Okay, you too," Xia Wanyin said with a solemn nod.

Facing a common enemy, their temporary alliance was now officially formed.

Just then, Shen Xing noticed several Beastmen gathered around the Campfire, silently tending to their wounds.

"You’re injured?" Shen Xing wheeled his chair over.

"Yeah, Boss. Got scratched a few times by those wolf cubs. It’s nothing serious," a Beastman replied nonchalantly.

Shen Xing’s brow furrowed, and his expression gradually darkened.

’I’m still not cautious enough, not thorough enough in my planning.’

’Even though I made over a hundred bear traps and placed them around the village beforehand, it was still far too few.’

’If I had made several thousand bear traps back then, combined them with some pitfall and spike traps, and built dozens or even hundreds of Arrow Towers, this wouldn’t have happened.’

’Yes, that’s what I’ll do!’

’Once I have enough resources, I’ll dig more traps, make more bear traps, and develop the territory with everything I’ve got.’

’When that time comes, anyone who dares to attack my territory will find it a one-way trip!’

"Hellish Roar, go to the Moon Well and get some water for our injured brothers to drink." Shen Xing took a wooden tankard from his personal inventory and handed it over.

"Yes, Lord!"

The Beastman took the tankard and walked quickly toward the Moon Well.

The bottom of the well, which had been dry before, now held a shallow layer of clear spring water that shimmered with a faint Silver light.

There wasn’t much, but it should be enough to give each of the injured Beastmen a mouthful.

Hellish Roar leaned down and scooped around in the well for a while, finally managing to draw up half a tankard’s worth, which he then distributed among the injured Beastmen.

As the cool, sweet water went down their throats, a hazy, soft glow spread through their bodies.

Before everyone’s eyes, the claw marks that were still oozing blood began to scab over at a visible rate.

"Whoa! The effect of this water is amazing! We’re healing faster than if we’d taken a nap!"

"This is great! Praise the boss!"

The Beastmen stretched their bodies, looking at their Lord with faces full of admiration.

Shen Xing was also very satisfied. The effect of the water from the Moon Well was even better than he had imagined.

Next, he directed the Beastmen to reset the bear traps around the territory.

Although it was unlikely the same tactic would work twice on the same enemy, it would at least make them hesitate.

At the very least, after this failure, that guy probably wouldn’t dare to come back anytime soon.

"Let’s continue exploring. The Horse Lantern is still good for a few more hours; we shouldn’t waste it," Shen Xing said to Xia Wanyin, pushing his thoughts aside.

"Alright."

Xia Wanyin agreed and led her squad of Light Elves to the village entrance.

First, they circled the surrounding area, carefully sweeping a perimeter of several hundred meters.

Only after confirming that the enemy had completely left did they continue exploring deeper into the Fog.

A constant stream of notifications flooded the screen. Shen Xing watched as one green dot after another lit up on his mini-map.

And because they were in a two-person team, they could use their two Horse Lanterns in alternation, greatly extending their exploration time.

In just a few hours, they found seven or eight resource points—almost as many as they had found in the entire previous week!

This made him marvel all the more at how terrifyingly effective Xia Wanyin’s ability was. She was practically a walking, talking radar!

Just then, Xia Wanyin, who was walking at the head of the group, suddenly sensed something and paused. "Huh? I hear the sound of machinery!"

"To think there’s this kind of resource point near your territory."

Shen Xing was confused. "What?"

"Come on, I’ll take you there and you’ll see." A mysterious smile appeared on Xia Wanyin’s face as she turned around with a light spring in her step.

Shen Xing found it strange but followed the girl in the white dress nonetheless.

The party, numbering over twenty in total, traveled through the desolate plains shrouded in thick Fog.

Soon, they arrived at the edge of a forest.

Towering trees were Rooted in the earth, their entire bodies pitch-black as if they had been scorched by fire.

Their dense canopies had no leaves, but instead grew a large number of black vines.

The vines between the trees interlinked, forming an impenetrable wall of tangled growth.

"There’s a forest this big near my territory?" Shen Xing was a little surprised. He had never noticed it before.

"And that’s not all," Xia Wanyin said cheerfully. "There’s something good inside, too."

"Oh?" Shen Xing’s interest was piqued, and he couldn’t help but feel a sense of anticipation.

They entered the forest and pressed forward.

Although a few Lost Ones were hiding behind the large trees, trying to launch a sneak attack...

...before they could even get close, they were turned into pincushions by the Light Elf archers at Xia Wanyin’s side.

’The Light Elf Soldier Type is indeed very powerful,’ Shen Xing mused to himself.

’And unlike ordinary starting Soldier Types that can only develop in one direction, her Light Elves seem to be able to evolve into multiple professions.’

Shen Xing had already seen Light Elf Warriors wielding Light Sabers, archers firing Light Arrows, and the Light Elf Guardians who could previously conjure light shields.

Just as he had thought before, there were countless evolutionary paths for a Soldier Type, and they could be guided by human intervention.

Because Shen Xing’s [Sacrificial Evolution] greatly increased his soldier types’ agility, his Beastmen’s evolutionary path was also primarily agility-based.

Similarly, during a Soldier Type’s growth process, a Lord could have them learn to use different weapons and combine that with specific treasures to guide their evolution in a desired direction.

But such treasures were generally very expensive. The average Lord couldn’t afford them, nor would they waste them on basic starting soldiers.

’By the looks of it, Xia Wanyin must have spent a fortune to evolve these Light Elves into multiple professions.’

As he was pondering these things, the party reached the deepest part of the forest.

Now, a peculiar area lay before him.

There were a few drafty wooden huts surrounded by a wooden fence, and in the middle was a large processing plant from which the constant sound of logs being cut could be heard.
