Building a Perfect Territory in the Mist
Chapter 44 - 40: The Exasperated AttackerChapter 44: Chapter 40: The Exasperated Attacker
As a veteran Lord in this area, this wasn’t the first time Gideon had attacked another Novice Lord’s territory.
Compared to the nervousness and apprehension he felt at the very beginning, he was now used to it, even treating the hunting of other Novice Lords as a daily routine.
After all, a single job netted him at least a hundred thousand, and he didn’t even have to face any legal responsibility. Where else could he find such a good deal?
In the real world, he was just a shut-in who liked to post inflammatory opinions on various websites—a professional troll.
But here, because he had started the game earlier than other Lords, he could use his strength to bully other new Lords as he pleased.
Watching those newcomers beg for mercy, struggle, and even wag their tails for pity in front of him filled him with a morbid sense of satisfaction.
"You’re always going after these new Lords, treating them like prey. Aren’t you afraid of retaliation?" the hooded woman, her hair as red as fire, asked as she turned her head.
"Retaliation?" Gideon scoffed dismissively. "They’d need to have the chance."
"In this area, as long as no Tier Two Extraordinary Level Lord appears, who could possibly be my opponent?"
"Besides, after a few more jobs, I’ll have enough money to buy the materials to break through to Tier Two and get an Extraordinary Level Soldier Type."
"When that time comes, the newcomers in this area will have even less room to resist. Even that blind girl—I’ll make her submit to me!"
He muttered to himself, a twisted smile on his face.
The red-haired woman said nothing, merely gazing at the distant territory, a complicated look flashing in her eyes.
Gideon didn’t attack right away. Instead, he waited in place for half an hour.
As a veteran in this line of work, he was quite cautious.
Only after confirming that Shen Xing was long gone did he wave his hand and say, "That’s long enough. Let’s move."
As he spoke, Gideon took the lead, carrying the Horse Lantern.
Behind him followed a group of figures dressed in coarse linen clothes, looking like ordinary villagers.
However, their beast-like eyes and the ferocious aura they inadvertently exuded made it clear this was no ordinary group of people.
At that moment, Dahou and Blood Roar, who were left in charge of the defense, were leading the Beastman Infantry in Power training.
Suddenly, the two Arrow Towers at the village entrance attacked again, the sound of arrows slicing through the air. SWISH! SWISH!
Although they had just experienced the friendly fire incident with Xia Wanyin, they hadn’t let their guard down. They immediately led all their troops into a combat State.
The Beastmen formed a line at the village entrance, with six Skeleton Archers standing behind them.
As they watched, a pinpoint of yellow light rapidly approached.
Immediately after, a dozen or so figures stepped into the firelight’s range.
"Hehehe, one Elite Three-Star, one Elite Two-Star, and so many Ordinary Three-Star Beastmen."
Gideon’s gaze swept over Blood Roar and Dahou, his eyes glinting as if sizing up prey. "For a Novice Lord, his development is not bad at all."
"But unfortunately, they’ll all be mine soon."
Blood Roar and Dahou knew these were no friends. They immediately tightened their grip on their weapons, their eyes revealing a savage light.
But he wasn’t impulsive. He patiently waited for the enemy to step into attack range.
"Surrender peacefully. If you pledge your loyalty to me, I might spare your lives," Gideon said nonchalantly, still wearing that confident smile.
"Where did this blond rat crawl out from? You think you’re worthy of the great Lord Blood Roar’s submission?!"
Blood Roar cursed without reservation, "Crawl back to your gutter and go lick a toad’s ass!"
"Yeah, crawl back and lick ass!" Dahou chimed in, raising his Dual Axe.
Gideon’s expression stiffened, then twisted into a cold sneer. "Very good. Since you’re looking for death, don’t blame me for not giving you a chance."
"Attack! Leave no one alive!"
With a wave of his hand, the eyes of the dozen or so villagers behind him instantly turned blood-red.
Their clothes were torn apart by bulging muscles, gray manes burst frantically from beneath their skin, and their limbs transformed into sharp claws!
"AWOOOO—"
A dozen or so gray Giant Wolves let out a long howl and charged toward the village with ferocious momentum!
...
...
In the churning Fog, a speck of firelight, like a moving firefly, advanced steadily through the darkness.
Soon, they stopped in front of a pitch-black, tall tower.
BZZZ~
As the Horse Lantern lightly touched it, a dazzling pillar of light shot into the sky, and the silent Black Crystal Tower once again emitted a mysterious, faint glow.
[Successfully lit the Black Crystal Tower. Black Crystal production has increased...]
Shen Xing looked at the resource point now lit up on his map, then glanced at the girl in the white dress waiting quietly beside him, his expression growing more complicated.
Three resource points lit in half an hour. A rate of almost one every ten minutes.
’What the hell is this?!’
He knew that when he used to explore alone, he might not light a single resource point in an entire day.
After all, visibility in the Fog was incredibly low, and the Horse Lantern could only illuminate a range of a few dozen meters.
It was possible for a resource point to be nearby, but you could pass it by several times without ever discovering it.
But she was like a living map hack, effortlessly leading Shen Xing to one resource point after another.
"Starfire, your starting territory is in a pretty good spot. There are quite a few resource points nearby," Xia Wanyin said with her eyes closed, her usual smile on her face.
"How... how exactly are you doing this?" Shen Xing finally couldn’t resist asking.
Xia Wanyin thought for a moment, then replied, "It’s a Special Ability of mine. Don’t tell anyone else, okay?"
Shen Xing nodded and didn’t press further.
He guessed that Xia Wanyin might possess some kind of ability that allowed her to see through the Fog or directly sense nearby resource points.
But whatever it was, there was no need to dig too deep.
’Someone is willing to tell you their secret and even lead you to resource points out of trust.’
Just as Shen Xing had his own secrets.
’Asking any more would be rude.’
"Alright, let’s hurry to the next location."
Xia Wanyin sensed for a moment and continued, "If we go forward and to the left for about three hundred meters, there seems to be a Green Crystal Tower."
"Okay."
Shen Xing nodded. Just as he was about to command the team to advance, his expression suddenly changed.
The Fog Flower on his arm began to spin faster, emitting astonishing waves of heat.
[Your territory is under attack by another Lord. Please respond in a timely manner...]
A cold glint appeared in his eyes as he looked at the notification.
"Starfire, did something happen?" Xia Wanyin seemed to sense that something was wrong.
"My territory is under attack, and it’s by another player," he said, his voice low.
"What!?"
Xia Wanyin’s expression changed, and she quickly realized something. "It must be that guy named Gideon! He did the same thing last time, ambushing my territory while I was out."
"That bastard! We need to go back and help!"
She spun around anxiously. The Beastman Squad and the Light Elf Guard also tightened their grip on their weapons, their eyes filled with killing intent!
Someone had dared to ambush the territory while they were away. It was an unforgivable crime.
Shen Xing wasn’t as anxious as one might expect. Instead, a smile played on his lips. "Don’t worry, he won’t be able to conquer my territory."
"Eh?"
Xia Wanyin stopped in her tracks, confused. "Gideon isn’t just any Lord. He reached Level 9 long ago, and he has several Elite Three-Star Soldier Types under his command."
"It’s fine. I left something behind in the territory," Shen Xing said calmly. "Let’s go. We’ll head back and take a look."
With that, he picked up the Horse Lantern and leisurely led the group back toward his territory.
...
...
Meanwhile, the Werewolf Legion led by the brown-haired young man, Gideon, had already retreated back into the dense Fog.
Compared to their high spirits during the initial attack, their current state could only be described as pathetic.
Everyone was covered in bloody gashes, limping as they walked, leaving a trail of blood on the ground.
Even the red-haired woman’s Magic Robe had been torn in several places, revealing her fair skin.
"Shit! Shit!!"
Gideon stomped his feet furiously and cursed, "Damn it! What kind of freak is this guy? Is he an idiot?"
He couldn’t figure out what kind of Lord would spend so many resources in the early game to make so many beast traps!
He had just ordered all the Werewolves to transform, preparing to crush that group of Beastmen in one fell swoop.
But just as they reached the village entrance, several Werewolves stepped on beast traps, their ankles viciously pierced by sharp iron spikes.
Gideon didn’t pay it any mind at first. It was just a few beast traps.
He had encountered similar situations when attacking other new Lords’ territories, but they had always been mercilessly crushed in the face of absolute strength.
So he ordered the Werewolf Legion to continue the attack.
Unexpectedly, the closer they got to the village, the more beast traps they encountered.
With almost every step, two or three traps would spring.
In the blink of an eye, all the Werewolves were mangled and covered in wounds from the traps.
Taking advantage of this, the group of Skeleton Archers fired a volley at the injured Werewolves, worsening their wounds.
Combined with the crossfire from the two Level 2 Arrow Towers, they were completely suppressed and couldn’t advance.
Gideon wasn’t stupid. Seeing that a frontal assault was impossible, he recalled his Soldier Type and prepared to attack from a different direction.
But just as he circled to the flank, before he could even launch an attack, they triggered several more beast traps!
He was so frustrated he could almost spit blood.
So he led the Werewolf Legion again, preparing to attack from yet another direction.
But no matter which direction he tried, they would step on a pile of beast traps.
What frustrated him even more was that a red-skinned Beastman from the enemy’s territory took advantage of the Werewolf Legion’s setback.
Shouting "WAAAAGH!", he charged out like a mad dog and instantly cut down four or five Werewolves!
The other Beastmen followed behind to beat a dog while it’s down, cutting down all the enemies.
Even Gideon himself was almost beheaded by a flying axe from that Dual Axe-wielding Elite Beastman, scaring him so badly he pissed himself a little.
In his panic, Gideon could only order the Fire Mage in his squad to cast a Fire Wall to temporarily force back the Beastmen, allowing them to escape into the Fog.
But this also meant their surprise attack had failed.
"This Novice Lord... he might have anticipated that you would attack his territory, so he prepared in advance," the red-haired woman said with a grave expression.
"Damn it, that blind girl must have told him!"
Gideon cursed angrily, a venomous look on his face. "Just you wait. You think a few measly beast traps can stop me?"
"I was just careless this time. Next time, once I’m fully prepared, I will definitely raze your territory to the ground!"
With one last vicious glare at the distant village, he and his injured Werewolf Legion disappeared into the dense Fog.
