Chapter 24: Chapter 23: Predictable
In the Sanity gym, Caesar laid in the middle of the ring, heaving with her arms spread out wide while Cedric leaned on the turnbuckle and smiled.
"Yep! Looks like we’ve found your category. You’re a brawler class."
"Huh?" Caesar said in an exhausted manner.
"It makes sense and matches." Cedric said, "You’ve got the hands. You’ve got the aggression.
Technicals? Nah. Not really your style.
High flying? I can already tell you’re not the kind that wants to die early.
Powerhouse? You do got some power in you but from how it is, you’d waste time trying to carry shit you don’t need to. (You might even break your back in doing that).
But brawler? Your style shows it. High aggression. Pure violence. All hands in no man’s land."
"What about the fifth one? The ero-specialist?" Caesar asked.
"Anyway!" Cedric said immediately, talking over Caesar, "Good thing you are a brawler. It makes my work easier.
Now I can teach you what I know properly. (Thank goodness you are not a high-flyer like Miyoshi)."
"Is he avoiding the question?" Caesar asked within with a raised brow.
"Now-up!" Cedric said as he pushed himself off the turnbuckle.
Cedric walked towards Caesar and extended his hand forward.
"Let’s get you started, shall we?" Cedric said.
Caessr took Cedric’s hand and was hauled up to her feet.
"Now, since you already know the basics of striking and grappling, it’s time you learnt the flow." Cedric said as he took a few steps back away from Caesar.
"The flow?" Caesar asked.
"Yeah. A real brawler doesn’t just ’throw hands’. A real brawler chains attacks.... Chains violence." Cedric said, "When swinging, you don’t just swing aimlessly. What are you coming up with next? Are your knocking them down or setting them up? What is the purpose behind them?"
Cedric stretched his shoulders and popped his neck.
"Right now, I want you to come at me." Cedric said, "We’re starting with chain strikes. Swing at me like I’m an opponent."
Caesar nodded her head in response and without hesitation, she lunged towards Cedric and hurled her fist at him but Cedric blocked.
Caesar swung again but Cedric easily weaved.
"Good. But what’s next?" Cedric asked.
Caesar hurled her fist again but Cedric stepped back a little to evade.
"Is that all?" Cedric asked.
Caesar swung her fists a couple of times at Cedric which he easily dodged. In the middle of her barrage, Caesar slammed her shin against Cedric’s side but Cedric instantly trapped her leg between his arm and sides.
In that moment, Caesar had a quick remembrance of Nero doing the same thing in her match against him. Immediately after remembering that moment, Caesar’s eyes widened.
Cedric, however, stood there and stared at her before he brought down his head and sighed.
"You did it again." Cedric said, "The same thing. The same angle. The same mistake.
Isn’t this the same thing you pulled on Nero?"
"And if I recall correctly, he did something like this?" Cedric asked as his finger darted under Caesar’s groin.
In that moment, Caesar’s body stiffened as she had a quick memory of Nero doing the same thing to her.
"And this?" Cedric asked as his fingers slowly brushed against it.
The slow and gentle pressure from his fingers made Caesar quiver and breath strongly, making her remember the exact thing Nero did to her.
"C-Cedric..." Caesar called.
"Before doing this?" Cedric continued as he swung his palm upward towards Caesar’s groin.
Caesar shut her eyes in fear of the slaps coming to her core but after a few seconds, she opened her eyes in surprise as she felt nothing.
Caesar looked down and saw Cedric’s palm was close to her mound but not touching.
After staring for a while, she shifted her gaze to Cedric.
Cedric released her leg, leaving Caesar to stagger back to her stance while holding her groin with one hand.
Caesar’s memories of Nero slapping her down there while holding her leg replayed in her head which led her grip on that area tighten a little after the recollection.
"That mistake is one of the things that brought you unbelievable hell in your match." Cedric said, "In that match, Nero toyed with you and let you hit him.
He was able to catch your kick just like I was because you gave yourself out without saying a word."
"Everyone uses kicks. Powerhouses, technicals, high-flyers, brawlers and ero-specialists." Cedric as he twirled his wrist a little, "Even an average joe can use a kick.
Kicks are powerful, yes? They carry the gravity of the body and are more devastating than punches.
However, they can leave you vulnerable... Especially when caught.
Right now, your strikes are too predictable. Your opponent in the ring can tell what you are going to do before you even do it. That needs to change."
"If you were up against an ero-specialist in that match, that would be one point taken. Lucky for you, Nero isn’t really an ero-specialist." Cedric said as Caesar slightly narrowed her eyes, "Yet... Also unlucky because he used that opportunity to torture you."
"Being a brawler doesn’t mean you should be predictable or reckless." Cedric said as he crossed his arms, "Know this: To ero-specialists, brawlers are buffets.
They ’looove’ brawlers especially a predictable and reckless one.
And do you know why? Because brawlers fight through pain but ero-specialists main tool relies on pleasure and sensitivity."
"High flyers are nimble. Too nimble to deal with." Cedric said as he raised a finger.
"Technicals are slippery bastards." Cedric said as he raised the second finger.
"Powerhouses can easily throw you off." Cedric said as he raised the third.
"But brawlers.... They are just right." Cedric said as he raised the fourth.
"Don’t get me wrong, a brawler could be a jack of all trades but going recklessly... Leaving yourself open and predictable is a no-no." Cedric continued as he crossed his arms again, "You got that?"
Caesar nodded her head in response.
"Good." Cedric said as he stretched his shoulder again, "Now let’s start again."
Caesar nodded her head again and took her stance.
Caesar remained in her spot for a time before she lunged towards Cedric and threw a punch only for him to block the attack.
Caesar threw another punch but Cedric weaved. Caesar threw a few more punches at Cedric but he easily dodged them all and spoke while evading.
"You’re still doing the same thing, kid. Where is the chain of the attacks?! Where is the unpredictability-?"
Cedric was caught off guard as Caesar rather than continually swinging her fists, hurled her two fingers towards his eyes only for her to draw back her hand and land an uppercut on his jaw, eliciting a grunt from him.
"A feint?" Cedric asked within at the moment the punch connected.
Caesar then swung her shin on the side of Cedric which brought out another grunt from him.
"Now a kick... That’s more like it." Cedric said within at the moment the kick connected.
The impact of the kick made him stagger sideways.
Just as Caesar advanced towards Cedric to attack, Cedric stopped her fist easily with his palm.
"Okay. That’s enough." Cedric said.
Cedric released her fist and Caesar stepped backwards a little.
"Not bad." Cedric said with a smile, "That eye poke feint, uppercut and kick was unpredictable. You really had me."
"Actually... I was going for the eyes but I held myself back and delivered the uppercut and kick." Caesar said as she scratched the back of her head while looking away.
Cedric stayed quiet for a time as his gaze turned blank.
"Oh..." Cedric said, "Okay. Well, you should know that eye poking counts as an illegal strike.
Not that it will get you disqualified outrightly (well... depending on the ref) but it will fetch you a warning from the ref. If you do it again, then you’ll be disqualified."
"But I must say, that was unpredictable, dirty and very brawler-like." Cedric continued with a smile as he rubbed the back of his head with his palm, "Just... If you are planning to do that, let it be in a no disqualification. Then you can poke all the eyes you want."
Caesar smiled and nodded her head and Cedric smirked.
"Hello?" A masculine voice sounded.
Cedric and Caesar turned to the direction of the voice and saw the person to be a lean but seemingly well built lad with a light brown skin and a long yellow hair.
His long blonde hair framed his face and a long crimson papal cross painted along it’s center, stretching from the front of his bangs down to the back of his long flowing hair.
Underneath the hair, the irises of the lad were orange in color.
On his body, the man wore a black slim tank top with white stripes at the sides.
Round his neck likewise the biceps down to the back of the knuckles were covered with crimson flame markings.
The man also wore black joggers and white sneakers while carrying his gym bag on the left shoulder.
"AJ Zero?" Cedric said with a raised brow.
"Y-yeah. I-I-I am supposed to be training now. It’s my time." AJ Zero nervously said, "Sorry I came a bit late. Work got in the way."
"No, it’s okay." Cedric said, "I was done here anyway."
Cedric glanced at Caesar and nodded his head.
"Alright, Caesar... Tomorrow?" Cedric asked.
"Yeah, tomorrow." Caesar replied, "I even got another shift to attend to , now."
"Alright then." Cedric said.
Caesar nodded her head and walked out of the ring.
Just as Caesar walked past AJ, AJ could not help but stare at her and watch her leave the room.
"Hey, Zero. Don’t keep me waiting." Cedric’s voice sounded.
"Ah! O-okay. I’m coming!" AJ said in a frantic manner as he rushed towards the ring.
