Chapter 25: Chapter 24: Education
Within a small building, Caesar who was wearing a white promotional cap, white promotional top that was written on them "Third Vision", a blue jeans and blue sneakers with white accents sat among others who were also wearing the same white cap and top.
In front of them stood a fair skinned man with a muscular build, wearing the same cap and shirt as the others while having a pair of shades covering his eyes.
The man also wore a black jeans trousers and white sneakers.
"Okay, listen up! Third Vision isn’t paying us to sit around! As you are all aware, they will be hosting a free launch event... But the public isn’t aware, so I want you to go out there and make them!" The man said, "Hand these flyers out! Spread the information like you’re spreading a fucking flu!
They paid handsomely for this, so we can’t afford to let them down!
Smile, talk, make them care!"
While the man was talking, Caesar spoke in her heart.
"Mr Pulpsack seems fired up. But considering that the company paid a large sum of money for us to advertise them, I can see why he would be."
Caesar instantly caught notice of some of her coworkers stealing glances at her. Some even nudging and subtly pointing at Caesar but Caesar paid them no heed and resumed staring at her boss.
"You, you, and you- take the Agxas street!" Mr Pulpsack said as he pointed at three of the workers.
"You two-Maplewood." Mr Pulpsack said as he waved his finger at two other workers.
You, you, you and yes, you-Caesar... Westville. Leave no corner untouched!" Mr Pulpsack continued.
As Mr Pulpsack was still talking, Caesar tilted her head up and exhaled
Later in the Westville street as Caesar and her crew were trying to share flyers, a fair skinned human female among them handed a male beastfolk a flyer and grinned innocently. However the beastfolk crumpled the paper in front of her, dropped it on the ground and walked away, leaving the female stunned.
"Huh?" The female said.
Her teammates stared at her momentarily before they resumed their work.
As Caesar shared flyers to several people while giving a winning smile, some took, some ignored and some took and nodded before leaving.
"Hey! Third vision is hosting a free launch event. There are prizes, free food and even job openings and it’s tomorrow, on Saturday. You in?" Caesar asked as she extended a flyer to a male human.
"Yeah... Sure." The male answered, "Uh... You certain they’re hiring?"
"Well, it looks like it. You should check it out. Seriously." Caesar replied.
"That’s good." The man said with a smile as he stared down at his flyer.
However, that smile slowly shifted to sadness.
"This is good, really. It’s just... Man... I’m really jealous of people who got to finish school and actually made it, y’know? It must be really beautiful for them."
Hearing those words, Caesar’s smile faltered and a memory suddenly crashes in.
In the year MM-17, a loud noise echoed from their house; Caesar was standing and yelling at her parents (who were casually sitting on the couch) with so much pain and fury while tears welled at the corners of her eyes as she tightly clutched her letter.
"YOU TOLD THEM I CHEATED?! YOU DEFAMED ME?! DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA HOW HARD I WORKED TO GET INTO RED ROCK?!
HOW MANY SLEEPLESS NIGHTS- HOW MUCH I EVEN SAVED TO TAKE THAT EXAM? AND YOU DEFAMED ME?!
DO YOU KNOW WHAT THEY DO TO PEOPLE WHO HAVE BEEN ACCUSED OF CHEATING?
WHY ARE YOU LIKE THIS?!"
"I don’t see why you are upset." Caesar’s beastfolk father said, "We simply told them the truth. You cheated. Plain and simple."
"Do you think we would allow a useless child to go there and disgrace our name even more?" Caesar’s human mother asked, "It serves you right. You’re not going anywhere."
In that moment, silence stayed for a little while until a small sounds of chuckling were made which came from Caesar.
"Useless, huh? That’s rich coming from you two." Caesar said with a disturbing smile as tears trickled down her face.
"What did you just say, ’girl’?" Caesar’s father asked as he narrowed his eyes.
"I’m useless? ’I’ am useless?" Caesar asked, "The same girl who was among the brilliant minds not because I was gifted but because I worked incredibly hard to keep up just to make you proud! I’m useless? The same girl that won two inter-school debates and even won an interschool art competition yet you said they were rigged!"
Caesar’s father subtly clenched his fists while her mother narrowed her eyes as Caesar was talking.
"I got admission into Ivangton but you accused me of cheating and tore the letter! When I even became the headgirl of my school, you straight up accused me of sleeping with the principal! Saying I was ’sucking him off’? What is wrong with you?!" Caesar said with disgust, "The principal Mr Detune was so pissed with that accusation that he was ready to beat both of your asses and take you to court! Hell, I should have even let him!
I’m useless? What have you done for us, huh? What have you ever done for us? You done nothing but make my life and the lives of Rai and Eyo a living hell!
You’ve blamed all three of us for your problems like we ever asked to be born!"
"Fuck! You didn’t even name any of us!" Caesar continued as she threw the letter on the ground.
"My name was given to me by my kindergarten teacher!" Caesar said as she placed her palm on her chest, "That name... Caesar.
Before I got it, I went around thinking my name was girl! You refused to give me a name... The first gift parents give to their children is a name but you denied me of it just like you denied Rai and Eyo!
I named those two, not you! Took their names from a story book to even give it them while you refused to give any of them a name, and I’m useless?!"
"I have been doing the work of a father, mother and older sister!" Caesar said as she pointed at her chest, "I’ve been more of a parent to them than you two will ever be!"
Caesar’s father stood up in anger and walked towards her.
"Watch. Your-"
"Tone." Caesar’s father said as he smacked her across her face, "Girl!"
Caesar covered her right cheek with one hand and glanced at her father.
"Don’t think because you have grown you can talk to us anyhow you like!" Caesar’s father continued, "We are your parents. We gave you life and we can take it from you."
"No, no, no, Albagon. That’s not how we’ll deal with the brat." Caesar’s mother’s voice sounded.
Caesar’s father turned to the direction of her voice and saw his wife holding a white envelope while smiling.
"Since she talks like she is better than us, why don’t we teach her a lesson by breaking her where it would hit the most?" Caesar’s mother said as she raised a stick.
Caesar’s mother then tightened her grip on the stick and smirked as it drew out fire.
Caesar’s mother placed the envelope too close to the fire which led it to slowly burn.
Caesar, taking notice that the envelope had a writing on it that says : "Rai and Eyo’s bus fees", widened her eyes as she watched the letter slowly burn in her mother’s hand.
While staring at the envelope with those widened eyes, veins immediately pulsed round her scleras and her irises glowed in rage .
"Hello? Hello?" A voice echoed in the dark.
Current Caesar snapped out of her trance, shook her head and saw the human she was talking with about job opportunities staring at her in confusion.
"Oh, sorry. I just remembered something I wasn’t supposed to at the moment." Caesar said, "Uhm... Look, maybe you didn’t get to finish school or whatever... But that doesn’t mean much. I mean you’re still alive, right? That means you can still make something out of your life.
That’s why this Third Vision free launch event is an opportunity for you, tomorrow."
"So be sure to come, okay?" Caesar said with a smile.
"Yeah. Okay. Thanks." The man said with a smile.
"You’re welcome." Caesar replied.
As soon as the man turned his back and left, Caesar took notice of her coworkers staring at her which led her to take a deep breath and turn her back to continue working.
"Hey! Third Vision free launch event is coming tomorrow! They’ve got free food, good prizes and even great opportunities!" Caesar said to a human female as she tried to extend a flyer to her.
"No, thanks." The female replied.
"Hey! It’s her!" Caesar turned to the direction of the voice and saw a fair skinned human male with a matured dark skinned female beastfolk and dark skinned beastfolk girl.
"It is her, Caesar Moon!" The human said with a smile as he pointed at Caesar, "She is that newbie Mizukai affiliate that got her ass beaten by-"
The matured beastfolk smacked the human on his arm to silence him and gave him a warning look which made the man grin nervously.
"Mummy, who is that?" The little beastfolk girl asked.
"She is no one, dear." The mother answered, "She is just what happens when you don’t finish school and make terrible life decisions."
Caesar stared at the family with a plain expression for a time and resumed her work like nothing ever happened.
