Chapter 26: Chapter 25: Shift
During the night in the cold street, the dark skinned man with a stubble round his lower face who was dressed in a khaki brown tattered hoodie that veiled over his face, a black jeans trousers and black shoes, stood in the alley near a wall.
In front of him stood a chubby fair skinned man with a large white beard handing him over a photo.
The man in the hoodie stared at the photo for a while before shifting his gaze at the chubby man.
"Are you sure this is the place?" The man asked.
"Yeah, it is. That’s where he is buried." The bearded man replied as he crossed his arms, "Happy Havens Memorial.
For a guy that rich, getting buried in such a place is a downgrade.
He requested to be buried with his gold... All of them. He-"
"Hm?" The bearded man said in confusion as he slightly tilted his head.
The man in the tattered hoodie gritted his teeth and lowly growled as he was staring at the photo while his body shook.
The image of Akari’s face replayed in his head especially her sadistic smile.
"You okay, son?" The bearded man asked the man in the hoodie.
"I’m fine. Just have something to settle." The man in the hoodie answered.
The man in the hoodie turned his back on the bearded man and started walking away.
"Thanks for the information."
"To get to that city is gonna take you days. How you gonna do that?" The bearded man asked.
"The same way I got here." The man in the hoodie answered while still walking.
Meanwhile within Caesar’s house, during the night, Caesar sat on her couch, eating noodles and watching TV of a dark skinned bald man and redhead dark skinned man both wearing sport shorts and fighting in a cage while talking on the phone with her brothers.
"So you’re starting to warm up to your classmates, Rai?" Caesar asked.
"Warm up is a bit of stretch. Tolerate is the better word, sis." Rai replied.
"Well, I’d give it some time. I’d say a month or two. You’ll find them cool." Caesar said.
"Maybe. As long as Baku keeps that world domination idea to himself." Rai said, "Seriously, I keep telling him I don’t want to hear the details of what and what he’s planning."
"What about you, Eyo? Still making new friends?" Caesar asked with a raised brow.
"Yes, Caesar! We even got to have more fun together!" Eyo answered, "My friends are so cool! My friend Gamen talked about his mother owns a 750 fashion malls and very soon, he’ll let us take the clothes we want for free!"
"Wow. That’s nice." Caesar said with a smile, "That’s really nice."
"What about you, sis? How was work?" Rai asked.
"Work at the bakery was okay. But the flyer work... Well..." Caesar said, "Let’s just say things got out of control a few times."
"A few times?" Rai asked.
"Mhmm." Caesar answered as she nodded her head.
Caesar had a quick memory of a dark skinned human coworker holding the hair of a fair skinned beastfolk male and repeatedly punching him on his face as the beastfolk’s head was outside the window of a car he (the beastfolk) was in.
"Bitch! Bitch! Bitch! Bitch! Bitch! Bitch! Bitch! Bitch!" The man said while still punching the beastfolk as the car was slowly moving.
Caesar had another quick memory of another coworker who was a fair skinned female beastfolk with pink hair, holding her flyers and arguing with a blonde fair skinned human female while a pale skinned human male with black hair was behind the human woman.
"You can’t do that! You cannot talk to me like that! Don’t talk to me like that!" The female beastfolk said.
"Hey, calm down. Just let it go." Another coworker who was a fair skinned male human said to the female beastfolk.
"That guy over there said he wanted the flyer. He said he was interested, not you, so it doesn’t concern you!" The female beastfolk said to the human female as she ignored her coworker, talking over him, "And you don’t have to talk to me like I’m a failure.
You don’t have to tell me that I’m doing this job because I failed at life.
You don’t know shit about my life!"
"I’LL SAY WHATEVER THE FUCK I WANT, YOU STUPID ASS WHORE! HE DOESN’T WANT IT, SO LEAVE HIM ALONE!" The human female said.
"What are you talking about? The guy said he was interested in seeing the flyer until you came between us! He doesn’t even know you!" The female beastfolk said.
"Yeah. I really wanted to see what it was all about, lady." The pale skinned human male with black hair said to the human woman.
"SHUT THE FUCK UP!" The woman said to the man as she glanced at him with a deranged glare.
The human female turned her attention back to the beastfolk and slapped the flyers away from her arm, causing them to scatter on the ground.
"You stupid... Bitch!" The female beastfolk said as she slapped the female human across the face.
The impact behind the slap made the female human sprawl on the ground.
"Oh! Woah! Ha! Ha!" The pale skinned man said as the female human clutched her right cheek while crying.
Caesar then had the final quick memory of another coworker who was a dark skinned beastfolk male with a ponytail arguing with another dark skinned beastfolk male that was a cripple.
"Don’t say that about my mama." The ponytail beastfolk said.
"Calm down, brah." A fair skin male coworker said to the ponytail beastfolk.
"Don’t ever talk about my mama like that again." The ponytail beastfolk said to the cripple as he ignored his coworker.
"What?! I said what I said! Your mama a hoe! I said it! I said it!" The cripple replied.
"Don’t ’talk’ about my mama like that!" The ponytail beastfolk said.
"Hey, just ignore him!" The fair skinned human said to the ponytail beastfolk,"Mr Pulpsack will be waiting for us and we can’t afford another trouble!"
"That’s right, boy. Walk away like the little bitch you are!" The crippled beastfolk said to the ponytail beastfolk.
"You talking a lot of shit for someone in a wheelchair." The ponytail beastfolk said to the crippled beastfolk.
"Well if you got a problem, then slide about it, bitch-boy!" The crippled beastfolk replied.
"Hey, don’t do this!" The fair skinned man said to the ponytail beastfolk.
However, the ponytail beastfolk ignored the man and hurled his fist at the crippled beastfolk only for the beastfolk to grab his arm mid-swing and flip him to the ground.
"Ohhh!" The crowd said in unison as the ponytail beastfolk laid on the ground.
In that moment, mutters from the people sounded.
"Yo, you got done by a guy in a wheelchair?!"
"How you gonna explain this to your girl when you get home?"
"Gaddamn!"
"That can’t be me."
"You see?! You told you not to play with me!" The crippled beastfolk said.
The ponytail beastfolk immediately stood on his feet out of anger, rushed towards the crippled beastfolk, grabbed the wheel chair and flipped it over, causing the cripple to fall out of it.
"The fuck?!" A masculine voice sounded.
The ponytail beastfolk then mounted on top of the cripple and unloaded a barrage of punches on his face.
After the memories, Caesar’s face became blank while her ears flattened.
"Yeah... Work was just the same as usual." Caesar said to Rai and Eyo.
"Another drama at the flyer work, right?" Rai asked.
"Yeah. Another drama." Caesar answered, "Just when I thought everything would be normal. The funny part is that I didn’t get involved in any fight this time."
"Normally you’d hear a story or two of me swinging or getting swung at but this time I just behaved myself and avoided trouble." Caesar said with a slight smile, "Anyway, just wanted to say that I still miss you guys. The house really feels empty without you boys here."
"I do miss you too, sis." Rai said.
"Me too. I miss you, Caesar." Eyo said.
Caesar smiled and closed her eyes.
"I just want you to know that whatever happens, big sis will always be there to protect you, okay?" Caesar said as she glanced at the screen of her television, showing the bald man mounting on top of the redhead and bludgeoning the redhead’s face with his fists.
"Yes, Caesar!" Eyo said.
"Uh... Sure. Isn’t that what family is for? To protect each other?" Rai asked.
"Yeah, you’re right. Family do protect each other." Caesar replied with a slightly dark smile as the bald man had beaten blood out of the redhead.
"Sis... You okay. You’re sounding a little weird, today?" Rai asked as the referee quickly separated the bald man from the redhead.
"I’m fine. Just tired." Caesar replied as the redhead man was convulsing violently on the mat with red foam rushing out of his mouth.
"Good night, boys." Caesar said.
"Okay... Good night, sis." Rai replied.
"Good night, Caesar!" Eyo said.
Caesar hung the phone and stared at the screen, watching as they carried the redhead on a stretcher.
Caesar then went back to her phone and spent some seconds typing something.
After she was done, Caesar slightly tilted her head and spoke.
"Good."
