The vegetation gradually became thinner.

A few mutated vines attempted to wrap around her legs, but she simply entered her space and waited until they retracted before coming back out.

It was slower than fighting them directly, but it conserved her energy. Eventually, she reached the inner region. There were almost no plants here.

Only moss. Endless green moss covered the ground, creating an oddly peaceful landscape.

Ni Mengxue frowned; her instincts were telling her that something was wrong.

She was about to search for Meng Xiaoni when the system’s voice sounded.

[North, seven hundred metres. Then turn left and travel five hundred meters. Finally, head east for eight hundred meters.]

Ni Mengxue immediately relaxed. Without those precise directions, God knew how long it would have taken her to find him.

She followed the system’s instructions. Yet the farther she went, the stranger the surroundings became.

There were barely any plants or animals or zombies. It was as though everything living in this region had disappeared.

Ni Mengxue remained calm, carefully observing her surroundings. ’Something is watching me.’

But whatever it was hadn’t attacked. That made it even more suspicious. Soon, she reached the location indicated by the system. Her expression changed when she saw the scene in front of her.

In the field with green moss, a thick vine was wrapped around Meng Xiaoni’s body, suspending him several feet above the ground. His eyes were completely white, and he stared blankly toward the sky.

The only thing that made him alive was his black, messy hair fluttering in the wind. Held by the vines with gloomy clouds as the background, Meng Xiaoni looked like a puppet who had lost his soul.

"An illusion?"

Ni Mengxue’s expression turned serious, and her heart started to ache. Just then, something brushed against her ankle. She looked down. A thin vine had emerged from beneath the moss and wrapped around her leg.

Before it could climb any higher, Ni Mengxue immediately entered her space. But the next moment, her expression changed.

The vine had followed her inside.

"What?"

She quickly grabbed it and pulled it away. The vine offered almost no resistance. It had seemingly been severed from its root the moment it entered her space.

Ni Mengxue threw it onto the ground and crouched beside it. She narrowed her eyes and carefully examined the vine before bringing it closer and smelling it.

A sweet, sickly fragrance filled her nose. Her brows furrowed. ’This smell...’

Ni Mengxue suddenly remembered an interstellar plant with almost identical properties. It was called Soul-Eater.

It was infamous for trapping humans in illusions, slowly devouring their souls while consuming their blood and organs. By the time the victim realised something was wrong, only their skin and skeleton remained.

’One of the trickiest plants I encountered during the interstellar era.’

Back then, a special potion had been developed to destroy it. Normal fire was useless. The plant remained underground, covering the surface with moss that created the illusion of a peaceful landscape.

Once prey reached the centre, its roots would emerge and drag them underground. That explained why it hadn’t attacked her earlier. She hadn’t reached the centre.

To kill it, she needed to burn the moss first and then destroy its heart beneath the ground. Unfortunately, ordinary flames wouldn’t work.

Ni Mengxue frowned. Then an idea struck her. Her Fire Potion.

It was an unfinished project she had abandoned because of its dangerous side effect.

Once consumed by a fire superhuman, the potion would gradually strengthen their body while simultaneously allowing the fire energy to spread throughout it.

The problem was that using their fire ability during the next five days could cause their entire body to ignite. That made it practically unusable.

But she didn’t need to drink it. She could dilute it and spray it over the moss. The problem was spreading it over an entire acre.

’I need a drone.’

If she had one, the problem would be solved. Just as she was thinking about it, the Farming Spirit appeared beside her.

"Please leave me alone. Don’t give me more trouble. I already have enough things to worry about..." Midway through her sentence, Ni Mengxue paused and looked at him.

"Can you do something for me?"

The Farming Spirit frowned. "What?"

"I have a fire solution that needs to be diluted and sprayed over an acre of land. Can you handle that while I deal with the plant’s core?"

The Farming Spirit’s eyes lit up. "So you want me to set the area on fire while you attack its heart?"

"Exactly."

He smiled like a kind-hearted old man and nodded. "All right."

Ni Mengxue blinked. ’Why is he suddenly so cooperative?’

The strangest part was... she was thinking of help, and the farming spirit appeared. It was as if the system could read her thoughts...

Then she heard the spirit add, "But it’ll cost ten thousand merit points."

Her expression twitched. ’He was waiting for this.’

She took a deep breath. "Fine."

She had no time to negotiate. Meng Xiaoni was still trapped outside.

The Farming Spirit immediately regretted quoting such a low price, but seeing Ni Mengxue’s expression, he wisely kept quiet.

She handed him the Fire Potion.

"I’m giving you ten thousand merit points. Dilute this quickly, then go outside and spray it across the area."

"I’ll charge extra for..."

Ni Mengxue had already left the space. She reappeared beside Meng Xiaoni and immediately unleashed her ice ability.

Ice rapidly spread across the vine wrapped around his body. The plant reacted instantly.

Boom! Vines erupted from the ground and lashed toward her. Ni Mengxue didn’t retreat.

Instead, she froze her own body from her feet to her neck, leaving only her hands free.

The vines wrapped around her body but couldn’t move her frozen form. More importantly, they couldn’t drain her energy.

’It needs prolonged contact to absorb its prey.’

The cold spreading from her body also caused the vines to recoil. This plant was particularly vulnerable to extreme temperatures, ice, and fire.

Ni Mengxue seized the opportunity. Her hands released a surge of frost, completely freezing the vines holding Meng Xiaoni.
