Ni Mengxue stared at the notification with a grim expression. "Which husband?"

[Meng Xiaoni]

Thump! Thump!

It had been so long since she had heard his name. She wondered if that robot had changed... or if his first love was still those cold machines.

’No, I should focus on how to rescue him...’ She quickly slapped herself awake and looked at Ruo Chiwu.

"Aunt Ruo, could you and Lu Yucai lead the group? I... have remembered some work that needs to be finished." Ni Mengxue stated while loading her bag with weapons and other items.

"Mengxue, we still haven’t decided if we should go with Yanni Hills or take some other route." Ruo Chiwu frowned.

Ni Mengxue paused and came up with an idea.

"Let’s do it like this... I will clear out the area ahead, and if there isn’t any problem, I will send a signal like a flashing light or making smoke."

"Mengxue, be careful... It’s dangerous." Ruo Chiwu warned.

Ni Mengxue gave a meaningful look before she walked toward the inner room. Strange... Ruo Chiwu wasn’t worried that a level 2 ice superhuman was travelling all alone in a deadly place.

It was as if she were sure that Ni Mengxue would survive... or did she have divine powers to predict the future? What an interesting person.

’Once I reach the base... I will definitely investigate her.’

Knocking on the door, Ni Mengxue entered the inner room, and when she saw Lu Yucai staring at the window with a dazed look, her heart stopped beating.

He looked ethereal under the faint sunlight slipping in through the glass window. Yet... the aura around him was melancholic.

"Yucai?" She called out softly. Lu Yucai turned his gaze toward her; for a split second, he looked at her with vulnerability.

"What happened, hubby?" She quickly knelt in front of him and asked softly, "What are you thinking?"

Lu Yucai looked at Ni Mengxue for a long moment before asking, "Mengxue, how would I be able to live without you?"

Ni Mengxue frowned. "What do you mean? Did that bitch say something to you?"

She was seething inside.

’That bitch... Even after ruining my husband’s life, she still wasn’t satisfied. She had left him with an insecurity that couldn’t simply be erased.’

Lu Yucai stared at her with a dazed expression before unconsciously murmuring, "She said that one day you would leave me too. That one day, you would die if you stayed with me."

His voice became softer. "Mengxue, what would I do then?"

He wasn’t crying or choking up. He simply looked numb, as though imagining that day alone was enough to chill him to the bone.

Ni Mengxue clenched her fist before taking his hand. "Then I would resurrect."

Lu Yucai blinked in surprise.

Ni Mengxue sighed. "Honestly, I didn’t want to tell you this, but you’re too insecure right now. I have a special power that allows me to resurrect."

She paused before continuing.

"The real Ni Mengxue already died. I was able to take her place because of this power. As long as the original owner of a body is dead and I find it compatible with me, I can resurrect in it."

Lu Yucai stared at her in disbelief. His chilled heart slowly began to warm as she continued.

"So even if I die in front of you because of your luck or whatever else, I believe I’ll eventually come back to you."

She squeezed his hand. "And as I told you before, you’re not a jinx. You have karmic retribution energy. That’s all."

Lu Yucai seemed to relax slightly. His eyes brightened. "That’s good. If you have more lives, that’s good."

Ni Mengxue paused before saying, "I’m leaving now."

"Where?"

"I just received a signal. Meng Xiaoni is in danger. I need to rescue him."

Lu Yucai’s eyes flashed. "Are you going inside Yanni Hills?"

"I am."

"I’ll go with you."

Ni Mengxue immediately shook her head. "No. If you leave, who will lead this place? I can’t simply leave everyone in Aunt Ruo’s hands."

She stopped herself and corrected, "You’re the one who can keep everyone organised. While I’m away, lead this place."

Lu Yucai shook his head; his voice sounded a little unnatural. "Someone will die."

Ni Mengxue held his hand. "Believe me. Nothing will happen."

Lu Yucai looked into her trusting eyes. Something inside him slowly became stronger. If she could place so much trust in him, why shouldn’t he trust himself? Maybe this time... things would be different.

He finally nodded. Ni Mengxue smiled.

"All right, then lead this place. Stay safe until I return."

She quickly listed the RV’s defensive measures and the precautions he needed to take. Once she finished, she leaned forward and gave him a gentle peck on the lips.

Lu Yucai reluctantly looked at her. Ni Mengxue smiled before kissing him again, this time more deeply.

When she pulled away, she said, "Once I return and we reach the place I told you about, let’s consummate our marriage."

Lu Yucai’s face slowly turned red. He glared at her. It was kind of an innocent glare that held no tension and numbness from before.

Ni Mengxue secretly sighed in relief. At least he was no longer drowning in those thoughts. She turned to leave.

"Mengxue."

She stopped.

"Promise me you’ll return."

Ni Mengxue smiled. "I promise."

With that, she walked away. Once outside, Ni Mengxue took a deep breath.

The reason she dared to enter Yanni Hills alone was because of her space.

She had already tested it extensively. As long as she willed it, she could enter her space whenever she wanted. If she encountered a mutated beast or plant she couldn’t handle, she could simply retreat inside.

The only problem was that she couldn’t bring anyone else with her.

She still remembered what had happened the last time she brought Lu Yucai inside. Her space had forcibly expelled him.

She couldn’t risk that happening again. If she brought Lu Yucai inside at the critical moment and the space rejected him...

She didn’t even want to imagine the consequences. Ni Mengxue slowly ventured deeper into Yanni Hills.
