Chapter 581 - 311: Group Attack

Chang Kuanghai, Gongying Changxiu, and Astrid looked toward the Rift.

At this very moment, Chen Chuan was just one man standing there with his blade, yet his imposing aura created the deep-seated feeling that he was an insurmountable obstacle.

Of the three, Gongying Changxiu was the most sensitive to spiritual auras, and he felt extremely uncomfortable.

Spiritual auras were incredibly subtle and also subject to psychological influence. He knew that if he remained motionless, Chen Chuan’s presence would completely overwhelm his own, which would in turn hinder his use of spiritual abilities.

A light flashed in his eyes, and an invisible Spiritual Power lanced toward Chen Chuan.

This was the Ghost Body’s unique technique, Shadow Strike Arrow, capable of piercing and shattering an opponent’s spirit from a distance, without requiring any medium.

Spiritual clashes were extremely dangerous. If one’s defenses were unstable and their Heart Jade was shattered, they would lose consciousness, making further combat pointless.

He didn’t expect to shatter Chen Chuan’s spirit in one blow. Remote strikes lacked power and had significant limitations. However, this wasn’t his full attack; he only needed to disrupt him slightly.

Just as this Spiritual Power shot forth, he moved, leaping forward with his spear held in both hands.

Before everyone’s eyes, his figure instantly left countless afterimages in its wake. From his original position, to his leap into mid-air, and finally to his landing before Chen Chuan, the path was filled with a stream of Gongying Changxius, making it impossible to distinguish the real one.

The very first afterimage to arrive raised its spear and thrust forward.

In reality, they were all Gongying Changxiu; the first to arrive was merely a projection of his Spiritual Power.

In his human form, his attacks had relied almost entirely on physical techniques, with Spiritual Power playing a supporting role. Now, however, the roles were reversed. Spiritual Attacks took the lead, while his physical moves—aside from their inherent power—served primarily as a conduit for those spiritual assaults.

Chen Chuan stood his ground, his eyes deep and tranquil. The incoming Shadow Strike Arrow crashed into his Domain but failed to elicit the slightest reaction.

Then, Chen Chuan saw the foremost afterimage thrust its spear toward him. He remained motionless, allowing the spear tip to stab at his body. Immediately after, waves of Spiritual Shock washed over him. In that instant, his Second Self flickered erratically, almost fading away.

To the onlookers, the afterimages raised their spears to strike, one after another, before vanishing just as quickly. But as one particular afterimage lunged forward again, a glint appeared in Chen Chuan’s eyes. He suddenly lifted his Snow Monarch Blade, and with a sharp CLANG, caught the crescent blade on the Cross Spear.

The Cross Spear was designed to hook and trap. Normally, after such a block, Gongying Changxiu should have twisted his spear to lock the blade and disarm his opponent. At this moment, however, he could do nothing.

The impact transmitted an immense Power from the blade. His Ghost Dance Spear shuddered and hummed violently, threatening to fly from his grasp. Gongying Changxiu struggled to keep his grip, but the force of the blow was so great it nearly lifted him off his feet, shattering his balance.

He then saw Chen Chuan raise the Snow Monarch Blade high overhead. After a momentary pause, it came whistling down in a devastating arc!

He saw every movement with perfect clarity, yet he couldn’t raise the spear in his hands. Chen Chuan was simply too fast. Although Gongying’s Spiritual Consciousness could follow the motion, his body couldn’t keep up. He could only watch, helpless, as the blade descended.

His pupils constricted. At this critical moment between life and death, the space between his eyebrows throbbed as if it would burst, and his stored Divine Constant erupted violently.

Provoked by this eruption, the Ghost Dance spear suddenly generated a burst of power. This force, combined with the lingering vibrations from the impact, threw his body backward just as a flash of blade light streaked past his face.

A deep, long gash appeared down the center of Gongying Changxiu’s torso. The blade had cut an inch deep, tracing a perfectly straight line from between his eyebrows down to his abdomen. Had he been a fraction of a second slower, he would have been cleaved in two.

Just as Gongying was thrown back, the ground shook with a massive tremor. Seizing the opening created by Chen Chuan’s attack, Chang Kuanghai unleashed an Elephant Ox Peak. Propelled by an explosion of Power, his fist shot toward Chen Chuan!

Chen Chuan neither dodged nor evaded. He simply threw a punch of his own from where he stood. In a flash, their fists collided!

Chang Kuanghai’s body shuddered violently. A series of sickening pops echoed up his outstretched arm. All the way from his fist, up his arm, and to his shoulder, his flesh ruptured, exposing the bone beneath. A web of fine cracks spread across the bone, and the sheer aftershock of the punch sent him flying backward.

At almost the exact moment their fists met, a flicker of movement appeared behind Chen Chuan. Astrid materialized there, her Thrusting Sword plunging down toward his shoulder!

Chen Chuan paid her no mind at all. As the Thrusting Sword struck his shoulder, it began to crack, shattering inch by inch from the tip. The blade disintegrated into a spray of shrapnel as a powerful rebounding force traveled up its length. The shock nearly broke Astrid’s arm, and she had no choice but to let the force carry her back in retreat.

THUD! THUD! THUD! The three of them landed almost simultaneously, their bodies stumbling. They ended up either crashing backward, collapsing flat on the ground, or rolling to a stop on one knee.

Chen Chuan remained standing, looking down at them. He hadn’t moved a single step, yet he had repelled all three of their attacks. Wisps of mist still steamed from his knuckles.

His gaze fell upon the three battered figures below him. "Is that all?" he asked calmly.

Shock and horror filled their eyes. They all understood now: his strength was far beyond what any one of them could handle alone. So, without a word or even a shared glance, the three of them knew what they had to do next.

The flesh on Chang Kuanghai’s arm quickly knit back together, his bones mending and straightening. He saw his axe lying a short distance away, took a few steps forward, and yanked it from the ground. Gripping it tightly, he took a deep breath.

Gongying Changxiu had nearly been dissected moments ago. His wound was now gradually closing, the flesh knitting itself back together. His eyes were locked on Chen Chuan as he raised his Ghost Dance spear, settled into a staggered stance, and took aim once more.

But he could feel it. The spear in his hand was still trembling slightly, as if it had yet to recover from the earlier impact.

Astrid’s heart was pounding. If not for her armor’s protection, the rebounding force would have dislocated her arm. Even with it, the armor itself appeared to be slightly twisted and warped.

And that had only been a probing attack. She knew she had no chance of getting past him to the objective without these two. There was only one option left...

She said, "Qianji, be ready to back me up. I’m going to use it."

"Be careful. Don’t take too high a dose."

"I know."

Astrid let out a breath and slammed her fist against a section of her gauntlet. A hidden needle shot out, injecting the stored drug directly into her system.

In an instant, her senses sharpened. A cacophony of muffled sounds flooded her mind. She shook her head; although the drug caused some external interference, it also drastically boosted her perceptive abilities.

However, because of the drug’s side effects, she dared not use too much. Once she triggered the burst, she would only have half a second at most. She resolved that the moment she got the item, she would flee immediately and not linger for a second longer.

The three adjusted for a moment, then moved in near-perfect unison!

Gongying Changxiu and Chang Kuanghai flanked Chen Chuan from the left and right. The distance was so short that they seemed to appear at his sides in an instant.

Then, with a flicker, Astrid appeared behind him.

Their speed was so great that all three were launched into the air, creating a staggered, multi-level formation. Sensing each other’s rhythm, they simultaneously struck at Chen Chuan with their weapons!

But just as their attacks were about to land, Chen Chuan glanced up at them. His figure blurred for an instant and then abruptly vanished from their sight.

"What?"

The three of them froze in shock.

When Chen Chuan reappeared, he was already behind Gongying Changxiu. The full-power burst from the convergence of his Second Self and the Furnace Breathing Method granted him not just an explosive increase in power, but a commensurate boost in speed!

Gongying Changxiu’s expression changed. He sensed Chen Chuan appear behind him—a purely spiritual perception. His mind knew, but his body was still carrying out its previous command, his Cross Lance still driving forward.

So he could only "watch" as Chen Chuan calmly gripped the Snow Monarch Blade and, with an upward slash, cut clean through his back, bisecting him. Then, he "watched" as Chen Chuan passed through the two halves of his body and swung his blade at Chang Kuanghai, who was still further back!

Now facing Chen Chuan, Chang Kuanghai let out a furious roar. His arm muscles bulged as he raised his axe to meet the charge. The two weapons clashed once more, but this time, faced with such immense power and astonishing speed, the long axe was instantly sheared in two by the Snow Monarch Blade!

The blade’s momentum didn’t falter as it continued on its path. Chang Kuanghai’s face twisted into a ferocious snarl. His muscles tightened like steel, taking on a faint, iron-blue hue as he pushed his Celestial Pardon Horizontal Training to its absolute limit.

Chen Chuan’s eyes were deep and dark. The Long Blade descended. With a deafening CRASH, he drove Chang Kuanghai’s entire body into the ground!

Without pausing, he ran straight over Chang Kuanghai, his feet stomping on the back of his head and spine. He then reached out and snatched the ankle of Astrid, who was just about to phase away, and slammed her into the ground. A huge cloud of dust erupted with a BOOM!

As the dust slowly settled, Chen Chuan stood alone, blade in hand. Behind him, white mist rose like a vast column of smoke. The currents of light within the Rift pulsed and flickered. The three who had just besieged him now lay broken on the ground.

Astrid’s armor was shattered, revealing her face and body; it was impossible to tell if she was alive or dead. Chang Kuanghai was embedded in the ground, the back of his head and his spine crushed into a deep depression. He showed no signs of life.

The two halves of Gongying Changxiu’s body lay apart from each other. From his viscera, fleshy tendrils were extending, seemingly attempting to knit his body back together.

Chen Chuan’s gaze shifted. He walked over slowly and looked down at Gongying Changxiu’s upper torso, which included half a shoulder. "Mr. Gongying," he said earnestly, "I do hope you’ll come back and find me again."

"No, I didn’t..."

Before he could finish, Chen Chuan brought his foot down. With a sickening CRUNCH, he crushed Gongying Changxiu’s head into a pulp.
