Chapter 580 - 310: Convergence

For those last two attacks, Chen Chuan had used a special technique taught to him by Chen Bitong, one designed specifically to strike large creatures.

These creatures possessed incredibly tough Mutated Organizations inside their bodies, requiring immense destructive power to kill in a single blow.

The only downside was that this technique required a period of charging up before it could be unleashed, making it completely impractical against ordinary Fighters—you’d never get the chance.

However, he could also use it without charging. Charging was necessary for two reasons: one, if the Mutated Organization’s coverage was limited and one needed time to mobilize more of it; and two, to protect oneself from the recoil damage of the impact.

But his Mutated Organization coverage was comprehensive, and he could also use his Second Self to transfer away any damage, so he had thrown those two punches without a shred of hesitation.

This was all predicated on the series of exchanges he’d just had with Chang Kuanghai, which had given him a clear understanding of his opponent. Under uncertain circumstances, he would never have wasted his stamina so recklessly.

THUD. Chen Chuan landed. Before Chang Kuanghai could recover, he leaped forward, swatting aside his opponent’s descending arm that was trying to block. With his other hand, he drove a fist squarely into Chang Kuanghai’s chest. A surge of immense Power blasted completely into his body.

Chang Kuanghai’s face flushed crimson. His spine arched backward as his body staggered and swayed.

Chen Chuan advanced again, unleashing a Pan Tuo Palm from the Orthodox Scattering Hand. With a BOOM, the strike landed on Chang Kuanghai’s chin, snapping his head back so violently that even his massive frame was lifted, his heels leaving the ground.

A chill ran down Chang Kuanghai’s spine. He desperately twisted his head back, but Chen Chuan’s descending fingers still grazed one of his eyes. Power seeped in, and the eyeball instantly exploded.

Just then, Chang Kuanghai felt a grip tighten on his arm, and half his body went numb. Chen Chuan had locked him in place with Capturing Force. Chen Chuan then used the arm to swing his entire body around, slamming him violently onto the ground.

Through his blood-blurred vision, Chang Kuanghai saw a fist smashing down. He raised both hands to block. BAM! Because he couldn’t circulate his Power properly, the flesh on his forearms burst open, and blood splattered everywhere, no longer contained.

But Chen Chuan didn’t stop. One punch followed another, faster and faster, each blow packed with immense power. The sound of explosive impacts was incessant.

Under the barrage, cracks gradually appeared on Chang Kuanghai’s arms until, with two sharp CRACKS, they splintered and broke.

With nothing left to block the way, a glint flashed in Chen Chuan’s eyes. He drove a fist straight into Chang Kuanghai’s chest. BOOM! Dust and debris exploded outward as Chang Kuanghai’s back was driven deep into the ground, creating a shallow crater around his body.

He had lost all strength to defend himself.

Chen Chuan clenched his fist again, aiming for his opponent’s face. He paused for a moment, then smashed it down. But just then, he sensed something. He flicked his hand, and a sharp aura grazed past him, scraping a shallow white mark into the ground.

Because of the interference, the punch lacked its full force. Even so, it still smashed Chang Kuanghai’s head beneath the surface of the ground.

He raised his eyes and looked ahead.

He saw that, at some point, a figure in the garb of an Outer Ocean Fighter stood in the distance, holding a Cross Lance. Although his face was hidden by overgrown hair and his frame seemed to have withered, Chen Chuan still recognized him from his clothes and his Spiritual Domain. He couldn’t help but raise an eyebrow.

The person slowly lifted his head and pushed aside the long hair, revealing a face twisted into a grotesque, demonic smile.

"Gongying Changxiu!?"

Everyone in the Defense Department command center was shocked. Some even shot to their feet, exclaiming, "How can he still be alive?"

Many wore looks of disbelief. They had just witnessed Chen Chuan decapitate the man with their own eyes. How could he possibly be here again?

Specialist Liang’s expression was grave. He pondered for a moment, then looked at his female assistant. "A Secret Transmission from Wind Forest Hall?"

The female assistant nodded. "Captain Chen just fought two consecutive battles and rushed here at full speed. His stamina consumption must be significant. This could be trouble."

Chen Chuan slowly straightened up. He noticed that not only had Gongying Changxiu’s face and figure changed, but his Domain now had an ethereal, sinister quality to it. The sense of danger he exuded seemed even stronger than before.

He first used the Realm Token to contact Yuan Qiuyuan’s group.

"Where are you?"

Yuan Qiuyuan’s voice immediately came through. "Captain, we took care of those four and started heading your way, but the path is blocked, and we’ve been ambushed by an unknown force..."

The sounds of gunfire, explosions, and the roar of armored vehicles could be heard in the background.

"...We’re breaking through now. It might... might take five to seven minutes to get to you, Captain."

As they rushed over, they had to constantly dodge the Rifts that were appearing with increasing frequency. They also found a major road blocked by thick cables, forcing them to take a detour.

After taking the detour, they discovered that many other factions were converging on the area. When some realized they were a government-affiliated force, they were deliberately targeted, forcing them into a running firefight.

Seeing that his team members were handling the situation, Chen Chuan told them to be careful and then turned his gaze back to Gongying Changxiu.

Gongying Changxiu glanced at the Rift behind Chen Chuan, his eyes filled with undisguised avarice. As the heir to Wind Forest Hall’s legacy, he could clearly sense that it held immense benefits for him.

This place could provide him with abundant spiritual nourishment. If things went smoothly, he could use it to achieve a Celestial Body, reaching a state where his spirit and self became one.

’But a place this good,’ he thought, ’is better occupied by one person than shared by two.’

He looked at Chen Chuan, a strange smile spreading across his lips. He gripped his lance, gave a slight bow, and then looked up. "Mr. Chen, please don’t be alarmed. My return is merely a small matter of my Wind Forest Hall’s Secret Transmission."

Chen Chuan gazed at Gongying Changxiu and said slowly, "Mr. Gongying, I’m actually glad you were able to return."

The battle with Chang Kuanghai had once again bolstered his spirit. While the essence seeping from the Rift was significant, it still wasn’t enough for him. ’The most crucial task now is to continue elevating my spiritual plane.’

’Strong opponents are the fuel for my cultivation. And what could be better than an adversary like Gongying Changxiu? An enemy who, even if struck down, can pick himself back up and stand before me once more.’

Hearing this, Gongying Changxiu’s pupils constricted slightly. He scoffed, then raised his Cross Lance.

"It seems our previous battle failed to satisfy you, Mr. Chen."

He leveled the lance, its tip aimed forward. "In that case, let’s begin round two!"

Chen Chuan reached up, loosened his collar, and took a few steps forward. He reached out and grasped the Snow Monarch Blade. Just then, he sensed something and glanced into the distance again.

He said calmly, "Come on out. There’s no need to hide."

About a hundred meters away, atop a residential building, a figure in Knight Armor emerged. It was the same person who had intercepted him on the road earlier.

The suit of armor that had previously fallen off was now back on, and the helmet he had crushed had clearly been replaced.

Astrid glanced at Chen Chuan standing before her, then at the spectral Gongying Changxiu on the other side. She complained into her Realm Token, "Qianji, I think I’m doomed."

Sigrid’s voice sounded in her ear. "Don’t say that. I’ll support you from the rear. Besides, as long as you’re a little more careful and don’t expose your fighting habits again, he won’t be able to catch you."

Astrid muttered, "Easy for you to say."

"Alright, alright," Sigrid said. "You just need to find an opportunity to grab the fission sub-body. You don’t have to defeat them."

The company had sent them here not only to collect data, but primarily to retrieve the fission sub-body located here.

Although there were no scattered smaller Rifts here, there was one large, stable Rift. In fact, the entire surrounding area could be considered to be under its influence. Astrid could still use the power of the Rift to move about freely; you could even call it her home turf. The only question was whether her senses and reflexes could keep up.

Just then, everyone on the field heard a series of CRACKING sounds, like bones grinding and twisting back into place.

Gongying Changxiu and Astrid both turned to look. They saw the half-dead Chang Kuanghai lift his head out of the crater and slowly sit up. His broken bones were rapidly straightening and healing.

The missing flesh on his arms was regrowing, and in the socket of his destroyed eye, tissue could be seen slowly squirming as it repaired itself. Then, he slowly rose to his feet and once again faced Chen Chuan.

Now, the three opponents stood in a triangle around him. Although they didn’t seem to have any intention of teaming up, claiming the Rift was the most important objective. Therefore, they wouldn’t mind eliminating Chen Chuan, the greatest threat, first.

In the Defense Department command center, everyone watching the scene grew tense. They couldn’t help but break out in a cold sweat for Chen Chuan.

Any one of these three would be a difficult opponent. How could he possibly face all three at once?

Specialist Liang stared at the light screen, saying nothing.

An operator below looked up and said urgently, "Captain Chen’s team is almost here! Three minutes! They just need three minutes!"

Three minutes...

Everyone stared at the screen. ’Can he hold out?’

Chen Chuan stood alone before the Rift, facing the three of them. ’There’s one way to fight a single opponent,’ he thought. ’Fighting three or more is something else entirely.’

With a turn of his thoughts, the Second Self standing behind him instantly merged into his body. He took a deep breath, and his skin suddenly became scalding hot.

BOOM! White vapor erupted from his body, billowing upward. Behind him, the Rift continued to expand, vast curtains of light pulsing like lightning at his back.
