Chen Chuan threw the punch, but he held back, putting very little Power into it.
Since these two had resorted to underhanded tactics, he wouldn’t be polite either. It was only right to return the favor.
In that instant, his fist collided with Chen Bitong’s. Yet, while the opposing strike looked ferocious, not a single bit of Power transferred into his body.
Just as he’d expected. Chen Bitong had taught him for so long that he had seen through Chen Chuan’s intentions from the simple act of switching his saber to his left hand.
Moreover, Chen Bitong seized the opportunity, turning the situation to his advantage. He put on a show of a genuine impact, creating a deafening BOOM where their fists met.
This hyper-realistic illusion was created not only by a subtle manipulation of Power, but seemingly also by some form of mental suggestion. If Chen Chuan hadn’t known the true situation, even he might have believed he had just taken the full force of his opponent’s blow.
Seeing this, Yang Shen and Nie Guanshan had no doubts. Chen Bitong being stalled for that one moment meant the opportunity they had been waiting for had finally arrived.
Without the slightest hesitation, Nie Guanshan pushed off his toes, his body surging forward as he launched a punch straight at Chen Bitong!
At the same time, Yang Shen flicked his ten fingers. The long ropes floating in the sky suddenly descended, closing in on the two of them.
But in the next moment, their attacks merely passed through an afterimage frozen in place. The result made both their expressions change.
Nie Guanshan realized something was wrong. He immediately snapped back into a defensive posture while retreating toward Yang Shen, trying to cover him. He knew that Yang Shen was now the most likely target.
But it was too late.
At almost the exact moment they had launched their attack, an afterimage of Chen Bitong had already appeared above Yang Shen, smashing a fist down toward his head.
Yang Shen had served in the Pioneer Team and had survived many life-or-death crises. The moment he sensed danger, his reaction was lightning-fast. Instead of retracting his Coiling Dragon Force, he intensified it. The Binding Ropes in front of him whipped out, actually managing to drag his body diagonally forward at a moment when dodging should have been impossible.
This dodge allowed him to avoid a fatal blow to the head, but the fist still slammed into his shoulder.
Instantly, an all-pervasive Power seeped into his body. A series of pops and cracks erupted from within him, from every joint, and bloody gashes even split open across the surface of his skin.
In that moment, many parts of his body contorted unnaturally. It was clear that even his bones and tissues had been ravaged by the Power. The might of that single punch was terrifying to imagine.
If this had been a one-on-one fight, it would have been over.
Just then, Nie Guanshan doubled back, closing the distance in an attempt to force Chen Bitong away from Yang Shen.
But with one less opponent to worry about, Chen Bitong was far more at ease. An afterimage, silhouetted against the sky, suddenly appeared above Nie Guanshan and stomped down.
Nie Guanshan couldn’t tell if it was real or not, but his Immortal Worshiping Posture integrated both offense and defense, making him fearless against attacks. He was currently in the Immortal Worshiping Defense. Seizing the moment, he channeled his Power, switched from defense to offense, and shattered the overhead afterimage with a two-fisted strike.
But another Chen Bitong appeared at his side and slapped him hard from the flank. Nie Guanshan’s whole body shook. He dropped low again, returning to his Immortal Worshiping Posture to dissolve the invading Power.
Yet another Chen Bitong appeared on his other side, landing a punch on his waist. Nie Guanshan immediately spun, thrusting both fists to the side. He used the momentum of the strike to circulate his own Power, layer by layer, and force out the invading energy.
Now, more afterimages appeared all around him—front, back, left, and right. Fists and palms continuously rained down on his body. He focused all his effort on circulating his Pile Stance, constantly gathering and then releasing Power.
But as more and more Power invaded his body, he could no longer expel all of it with each counter. The residual Power gradually accumulated, and his movements grew slower and slower.
He gritted his teeth and held on. Although the situation looked grim, his struggle was not meaningless. By tying Chen Bitong down here, he was buying time for Yang Shen.
Fighters of their tier recovered quickly. If he could just buy a little time, Yang Shen could regain some of his combat strength. Still, if there wasn’t a turn of events soon, it was only a matter of time before he was defeated.
Meanwhile, Chen Chuan, who theoretically should have been able to help, was also being intercepted by one of Chen Bitong’s afterimages. On the surface, he too was being held in check.
He didn’t know what had just happened. He didn’t think there was a problem with his ritual; he suspected that Chen Bitong’s methods were simply more brilliant, that he had seen through their plan and decided to play along, luring them into a trap.
Unfortunately, this type of mental ritual required time to build up again after being used. Otherwise, he would have definitely guided Chen Chuan to block for him once more.
Under the continuous assault, his movements became increasingly sluggish. It seemed like one or two more hits would be enough to completely overwhelm him.
But just as Chen Bitong’s figure descended from the air, about to deliver the decisive blow, a long rope suddenly shot out and wrapped around his arm. The other end was coiled around Nie Guanshan’s ankle.
Nie Guanshan seemed prepared for this. He abruptly pulled back his Power. The sudden tug yanked Chen Bitong out of the sky. He flipped over and landed on the ground, only for more long ropes to swarm up, tightly binding half of his body.
Yang Shen lay on the ground, blood trickling from the corner of his mouth. A savage grin spread across his face as he said, "Got you!"
His Coiling Dragon Force wasn’t just about externally manifested Power; it also included mental techniques. The key was in the word "entangle."
As long as an opponent’s Power entered his body, his mind would lock onto them, remembering their presence.
From that point on, no matter how many afterimages the opponent created, or where they hid, his mind could pinpoint their true location.
But this ability was useless if he lost his own strength, so he had another trick up his sleeve.
Those long ropes were not actual weapons. They were a Mutated Organization that grew from his own body after he cultivated the Coiling Dragon Force. They were, in a sense, living organisms that could move on their own, guided by his mind.
This was his true trump card!
Now, with his mind locked on and Chen Bitong preoccupied with a critical attack on Nie Guanshan, he had seized the opening to entangle him.
This material was incredibly tough. Once it wrapped around someone, they wouldn’t be breaking free anytime soon.
And "anytime soon" was an eternity in battle. A mere moment’s pause was enough to change the entire situation.
This was actually one of their backup plans. From the beginning, they didn’t believe the person sent by the Defense Department would be able to stop Chen Bitong. All the other fighters on their level had their own missions and couldn’t team up with them. So, they had come prepared for the possibility that their support would be completely useless.
If the situation turned against them, they could use this method to turn the tables.
However, this was just a precaution. If possible, they never wanted to be forced into such a dangerous predicament, preferring to prioritize their own safety. But now, the battle had reached a point where they were forced to play this card.
The result, however, was good. Once entangled, Chen Bitong was unable to break free, and his afterimages vanished one by one.
The Coiling Dragon Entangling Rope had ensnared the flying dragon!
This was the moment Nie Guanshan had been waiting for. With a great roar, he summoned all his strength and smashed both fists toward Chen Bitong’s chest.
It was an unavoidable blow. Even someone like Chen Bitong would be severely injured if it landed.
He had been on the verge of winning the fight, but now the tables had been turned by the two of them. This was the advantage of teamwork; the margin for error was far greater than when fighting alone.
Just then, something seemed to shift in Chen Bitong’s mind. He suddenly looked up and raised his one free arm to block.
A faint glow could be seen emanating from the outer layer of his arm.
Nie Guanshan’s fists slammed into it, but the rushing Power felt as if it had been thrown into a bottomless pit. There was no feedback at all.
He froze for a second, then he saw the faintly shimmering light. A realization seemed to dawn on him, and a look of absolute horror filled his eyes.
He immediately abandoned his attack. Pushing off his feet, he began to retreat. Judging by his momentum, he wasn’t just falling back to a defensive position—he was trying to flee the scene entirely.
But Chen Bitong simply gave a casual tug, snapping all the tough, long ropes coiled around him. His figure flickered and then reappeared right in front of the retreating Nie Guanshan.
Nie Guanshan hastily assumed the Immortal Worshiping Defense, but the faintly glowing fist slammed into his abdomen.
His spine arched, and his entire body was knocked into the air. It was the first time since he’d started using the Immortal Worshiping Posture that his feet had left the ground.
This time, his Strength Posture was actually unable to resist the penetrating Power. The surging force instantly slammed into his body and churned violently within him.
Chen Bitong took another step forward and drove an elbow into his throat. A crack of breaking bone sounded, followed by a continuous series of pops from all over his body.
His assault didn’t stop there. He slammed a palm into Nie Guanshan’s forehead. Nie Guanshan’s eyes rolled back in his head as he was flung backward. By the time he hit the ground, he was completely still and silent.
Yang Shen was slowly getting back to his feet. In just that short time, he had already begun to repair some of his injuries. He didn’t spare a glance for Nie Guanshan as he stumbled and ran for the exit.
At that moment, the sound of gunfire suddenly erupted from above, and bullets rained down on him.
Even a Third Limit Fighter couldn’t withstand that many bullets if his Mutated Organization failed to coalesce. Fortunately, he was still wearing Protective Clothing and gloves. He raised his hands to shield his head and face, pushing forward through the hail of bullets.
But he hadn’t gotten far before a figure appeared in front of him.
Terrified, he leaped to the side, but an arm swept out and a palm struck him on the neck. The String Void Power traveled down his spine, and every single vertebra let out a series of sharp CRACKS.
He convulsed violently in mid-air, flying more than ten meters before falling limply to the ground. He rolled a short distance in a twisted heap, then lay still like a pile of mud.
