Chen Bitong withdrew his hand and straightened up. He looked at Chen Chuan. The phantom figure in front of him was slowly disappearing.
"Captain Chen, those two are already down. Are you still going to continue the mission?"
Chen Chuan looked at him and said, "I was planning on cooperating with them, but they weren’t interested. Since that’s the case, I’ll just have to handle this myself."
Chen Bitong seemed to want to say something, but just then, the Rift suddenly flashed, and both men looked toward it.
At the same moment, in a distant vehicle, an observer was watching the front with a pair of binoculars.
Due to interference from the Domain, the situation on-site couldn’t be transmitted directly to the command center. Their only option was to post observers.
The Third Limit battle was simply too fast, and with the rain, he couldn’t make out any details. He was only now getting a clear picture.
Scanning the area with his binoculars, he gasped in shock and quickly reported using his Realm Token:
"Report, Team Two’s status is unknown. The two officers appear to be down. Only Captain Chen is left. He—he’s still holding on!
And..." He seemed to have spotted something. "What is that...?"
From within the Rift, a huge, orange-red fireball suddenly erupted. Even though Chen Chuan and Chen Bitong were standing tens of meters away, they could still feel a wave of scorching heat.
Fang Zhixin and Yu Lie, who were positioned closer, hastily leaped back.
As they dodged, they heard a rumbling sound from behind the ball of flame. A line of Soldiers wielding Flamethrowers emerged from within.
Behind these men were two hammer-wielding Samurai over three meters tall.
They were covered from head to toe in heavy Armor, their faces hidden behind Ghost Masks. Both hands gripped a fearsome Wolf-Toothed Hammer.
As they strode forward, the very ground trembled. Their astonishing size and height, combined with the savage faces on their masks, made them look as if monsters had walked into the world.
Both were Siege Warriors from the Old Imperial Family, formidable experts in Horizontal Training and Wrestling Takedowns. In battle, they always appeared at the vanguard of the army. Clearly, the Old Imperial Family forces behind them intended to use them to punch a hole in the lines or secure a position, clearing the way for those to follow.
Fang Zhixin and Yu Lie exchanged a look. The moment the flames scattered, they charged forward in unison. With casual flicks of their hands, they sent the regular Soldiers flying. They reached the two Samurai and struck almost simultaneously, but the blows only made the giants sway slightly. They appeared to have taken little to no damage.
The Samurai then hefted their Giant Hammers and swung them forward. Startled, Fang Zhixin and Yu Lie dodged away. The two giants continued to advance as they attacked, and the duo felt an immense, oppressive force, forcing them to retreat.
Just then, there was more movement at the Rift. Ranks of foot soldiers in Armor, carrying Shields and Spears, charged out and began to form up. Behind them, it seemed even more troops were pouring through.
Chen Chuan’s expression remained unchanged as he watched this unfold. He turned to Chen Bitong and asked, "Teacher Chen, I’d like to ask, what exactly are you trying to do?"
Chen Bitong shook his head. "You don’t need to know too much right now. It wouldn’t be good for you. You’ll understand in the future."
Chen Chuan said, "Is that so?"
He turned his head to look at the Samurai and Soldiers of the Old Imperial Family who had poured in. With a single thought, his Second Self instantly merged with him. Simultaneously, his Spiritual Power radiated outward, blanketing the entire battlefield in an instant.
The charging Soldiers had been brimming with momentum, but now, a Soldier at the very front suddenly pitched forward and collapsed to the ground with a THUD.
It was like a contagion. THUD. THUD. THUD. THUD... A chain reaction of bodies hitting the ground followed as the Soldiers of the Old Imperial Family collapsed, rank after rank.
The two hammer-wielding Siege Warriors locked in combat with Fang Zhixin and Yu Lie swayed. Their Big Hammers slipped from their grasp, and they too lost consciousness. Their massive bodies crashed to the ground, making it tremble twice.
In a mere instant, at least a hundred Soldiers of the Old Imperial Family who had charged out lay unconscious on the ground. Silence once again descended upon the field.
Yu Lie and Fang Zhixin stared, stunned and in utter disbelief.
Chen Chuan retracted his gaze, the brilliant light spilling from his eyes slowly receding.
’Spirit comes from the body,’ he thought. ’Only a powerful body can nurture sufficiently powerful Spiritual Power. My Second Self has not yet reached the stage where it can cultivate Spiritual Power on its own.
’But by merging with me, it strengthened my physical foundation, passively making my spirit more powerful. Those without any Spiritual Power of their own can’t possibly withstand such a fierce Spiritual Shock.’
He looked at Chen Bitong again. "I once said I’d like to ask for a lesson from you, Teacher Chen. Now seems like a good opportunity."
Chen Bitong looked at him and said slowly, "It would be better for you to leave. But since you insist, I’ll give you this chance."
Chen Chuan took a deep breath. Billowing white steam immediately rose from his body and drifted toward the sky, where it condensed in the wind, refusing to dissipate.
Chen Bitong watched him, raising a hand to adjust the brim of his hat. His eyes held a flicker of surprise and a trace of nostalgia. ’The Furnace Breathing Method... So, you’re from the Pure Sect...’
Chen Chuan saw that he was empty-handed and stabbed his Snow Monarch Blade into the ground. Besides, ever since the blade had absorbed the splintered entity, the Mutated Organization within it had fallen dormant. When he’d used it earlier, the Power transfer had felt slightly off. He would be better off just using his fists.
He took two steps forward, then his speed exploded. Amidst a great sonic BOOM, he crossed twenty meters in an instant and threw a punch at Chen Bitong.
Chen Bitong raised an arm to block. Their Power collided, and feeling the fierce Impact Force, he was involuntarily driven back.
At the same time, a surge of String Void Force shot back into Chen Chuan’s body.
However, Chen Chuan’s enhanced physique from merging with his Second Self allowed him to withstand the force. Any excess damage was transferred to his Second Self, so he appeared completely unaffected. He raised his knee and drove it upward.
Chen Bitong blocked again and retreated another step. Chen Chuan followed with a straight punch. Amidst a thunderous BOOM, Chen Bitong’s body shuddered, and he was involuntarily forced back more than ten steps. His feet sank as the paving stones beneath them shattered, nearly forming a crater before he finally steadied himself. The arm he had used to block was trembling slightly.
He looked up. Across from him, Chen Chuan still held his punching pose, wisps of steam rising from the surface of his fist.
Yu Lie and Fang Zhixin stared, dumbfounded. Were they really seeing this? Teacher Chen was being pushed back step-by-step by Chen Chuan’s assault?!
The observer with the binoculars couldn’t see the exchange clearly, only the final result. He too was dumbfounded.
From under his wide-brimmed hat, Chen Chuan’s deep, calm eyes were fixed on Chen Bitong. He knew Chen Bitong hadn’t used his full strength just now. ’His real power is that technique he used to take down the other two,’ he thought. ’The state he was in back then far surpassed this. It’s not that I didn’t want to interfere, but even if I had, I probably wouldn’t have been fast enough.
’That’s why I went all out from the start.
’But he hasn’t used that technique again. Is he holding back for some reason?’
Chen Bitong spoke up. "Captain Chen, I’ve raised my assessment of you several times in the past, but this time, I must raise it once more.
I must say, if the two men on the ground possessed the power you have right now, they would have been able to defeat or severely wound me.
Your foundation is extremely strong. Of all the people I have ever met, perhaps only one can compare to you physically. But you’re still missing one technique..."
He looked up. "...and that is to fuse Spiritual Power into your Power, to use your spirit to elevate your techniques. Once the two are combined, your offensive capabilities will increase dramatically."
"Spiritual Power..."
Chen Chuan mulled it over. ’What Chen Bitong is describing must be what Old Hu can do. When I arrived, I saw that beetle split in two. That level of power is far beyond what ordinary Power can achieve.’
Chen Bitong seemed to be teaching him, speaking slowly. "The key to combining Spiritual Power with your own Power is conviction. You have to believe you can do it. Your will must be unshakable, and you must have a clear goal. Like this..."
As he spoke, he raised his hand. As he channeled his String Void Force, the air around him seemed to stir with a strange disturbance.
’He didn’t explain the specific steps or process,’ Chen Chuan noted. ’He made it sound as if it were incredibly easy, something that could be done naturally.’
Chen Chuan thought for a moment, then held out his hand, his gaze fixed upon it. ’Spirit...’ As his Power surged, he poured his spirit into it. For an instant, the air around his palm buzzed, seeming to expand outward before quickly contracting again.
But as he continued to focus his spirit, permeating it into every ounce of his Power, it surged outward in waves like the tide. The surrounding air began to vibrate again, continuously pushed away from him.
Finally, he clenched his fist, producing a deafening BOOM, like a thunderclap exploding on open ground. The aftershock continued to reverberate through the air.
Fang Zhixin and Yu Lie watched in shock. They vaguely knew that only someone whose Spiritual Power and physical body had reached a state of perfection could do something like this. ’Could it be... that Chen Chuan has already reached that level?
But how old is he?
He’s not even twenty!
They’d never even heard of someone like this before.’
Chen Chuan knew he hadn’t actually reached perfection yet. But his own formidable physique, combined with the merger with his Second Self, had forcefully pushed him over that threshold.
Even if he hadn’t reached what he would consider a true, substantial peak, he had still reached or even surpassed the level achieved by those ’perfected’ Fighters.
He felt the power. ’This isn’t a technique one could obtain through training. The prerequisite was having a certain level of foundation. Someone with that foundation could master it with a little guidance. If you couldn’t master it, it simply meant you hadn’t reached the required level. Hard training would be useless.’
Chen Bitong said, "Just like that." He assumed a stance, facing Chen Chuan. "Now, let’s see you try."
