Chapter 237: Chapter 237: I’ve Done All I Could (EC)
As far as Kotone Asaba could remember, he had never heard of any famous person named "Mars."
As for humanity supposedly attaining a happy life, whether that happiness would actually be genuine was another question entirely.
There was also another mystery hidden in the previous two lines.
The Great King of Terror would descend from the sky in order to resurrect the King of Angoulmois.
So who exactly was the King of Angoulmois?
Learning the full details of Nostradamus’s prophecy had cleared up only one of Kotone’s doubts. Instead, it had now left him with even more questions.
He could barely make sense of any of it.
"Fami, you should know about this stuff, right? Do you have any idea what it means?"
Kotone had completely run out of leads, so he could only ask Fami.
However, Fami simply shook her head. "Nope. Asking me won’t help. Anyway, you said you’d handle it."
"Could you at least cooperate with me a little...? Don’t you want to stop Nostradamus’s prophecy from coming true too?"
Kotone sounded somewhat exasperated.
"But I really don’t know."
Fami continued insisting on the same thing.
"Forget it..."
Kotone finally gave up.
He wasn’t sure whether Fami genuinely knew nothing or was hiding something, but either way, she clearly had no intention of telling him. He couldn’t be bothered wasting his breath.
For the remaining time before Nostradamus’s prophecy was due to occur, Kotone continued researching the King of Angoulmois and Mars.
But in the end...
While he didn’t come away completely empty-handed, everything he found consisted of wild speculation from people online.
None of it had any reliable basis, and there were countless contradictory theories.
In other words, it was completely useless to him.
With almost no time remaining, Kotone’s headache only grew worse.
Eventually, he had no choice but to give up entirely.
Rather than continue wasting his time on fruitless research, he would be better off preparing in advance for the prophecy’s arrival tomorrow.
On the very day the Future Devil had examined the future, Kotone had already used Tokyo Public Safety’s name to send the information to governments around the world.
Whether those countries believed the warning, or what precautions they chose to take, was beyond Kotone’s control.
At the very least, he had done everything he reasonably could.
"Koto, why have you been acting so secretive lately? Are you hiding something from us?"
At home, Reze suddenly questioned Kotone.
She had noticed something was wrong quite some time ago. Over the past couple of days, she had repeatedly seen Kotone frowning to himself. She had never seen Koto look this worried before.
Today, she finally couldn’t hold back any longer and asked him about it.
"...I am."
Kotone sighed softly. "I originally didn’t want you guys worrying about it, but you’ll have to find out sooner or later."
He then told Reze everything about Nostradamus’s prophecy before continuing, "You should all stay in one of the specially reinforced shelters for a while. Once the danger has passed, you can come back out."
By "specially reinforced shelters," he naturally meant bunkers designed to withstand a nuclear blast.
The Nuclear Weapons Devil had been gone for a long time, but the shelters themselves still existed. People simply no longer had any concept of nuclear weapons.
"No."
Reze rejected him without the slightest hesitation.
"If the others want to go, I’ll take them there, but I don’t want to hide."
Reze looked directly at him. "I want to face whatever disaster is coming together with you, Koto."
