Chapter 241: Chapter 241: The Death Devil’s Goal
The "miniature figurine" in Fami’s hand was another Primal Fear besides the Darkness Devil, the Falling Devil.
Kotone had no idea whether Fami had struck some sort of deal with the Falling Devil or done something else entirely, but somehow she was able to get the Falling Devil to act on her behalf.
Makima and Fami had both made their moves now, yet neither of them seemed interested in attacking the Death Devil herself. Instead, they were targeting the Death Devil’s followers.
That left Kotone uncertain about how he should proceed, because he knew absolutely nothing about the Death Devil.
"Reze, save as many people as you can. Leave this place to me."
Kotone intended to focus entirely on finding a way to deal with the Death Devil.
"Okay. Be careful!"
Even though Kotone was extremely powerful, Reze still couldn’t help worrying about him. After all, both Makima and Fami seemed quite wary of the Death Devil.
Soon, only Kotone and the Death Devil remained there.
He asked her directly, "Is your goal to destroy human civilization?"
"More or less, but not entirely. Human civilization will continue to exist, just in another form."
The Death Devil didn’t appear to be in any hurry to attack. In fact, she seemed perfectly content to chat with Kotone.
Her subordinates were currently being slaughtered left and right by two of her dear sisters, but Devils never truly died unless they were eaten by the Chainsaw Devil, so she didn’t care.
"What do you mean?"
Kotone frowned slightly. He had a feeling this woman was about to reveal some truly bizarre idea.
"I will create a world where Devils and humans can coexist, just like my sister War and that human girl, Asa Mitaka. Their relationship is neither human nor Devil, neither Fiend nor Hybrid. They genuinely coexist as one."
"Every human who dies in this ’world’ will be transformed by me into a new kind of human capable of coexisting with a Devil."
The Death Devil spoke with a smile.
At first, Kotone had to admit that the idea actually sounded somewhat promising.
But after thinking about it rationally, he still shook his head slightly.
"It sounds nice in theory, but have you considered whether those people would actually want that?"
He was certain plenty of people would refuse to coexist with Devils, especially those who had lost loved ones to them.
"Want?"
The Death Devil replied, "That doesn’t matter at all. Every human dies eventually. Does the will of a portion of humanity really matter when the ultimate result is death regardless? A new civilization, however, will never come to an end."
"Then I’m afraid I still can’t agree with you."
Kotone didn’t think this was necessarily a matter of right or wrong. Their positions and perspectives were simply fundamentally different.
She was the Death Devil, both a Devil and the embodiment of the very concept of death. It would have been stranger if her worldview had matched that of a human like him.
"I still believe each person’s wishes should be respected. Those willing to coexist with Devils and those unwilling to do so should be treated differently."
"Naive."
The Death Devil seemed to be losing patience.
Of course, Kotone knew that actually implementing his idea would be incredibly troublesome, but wasn’t there an even simpler solution?
Just maintain the status quo.
Then there would be no trouble at all.
The world had already achieved a relatively stable balance. Humanity had a mature Devil Hunter system for combating Devils. The only real downside was that many people were still harmed by Devils every day.
Realizing there was no chance of reaching an agreement with the Death Devil, Kotone spread his hands helplessly.
"In that case, I suppose it’s time for me to see just how powerful the one called the ’Great King of Terror’ really is."
