Chapter 97: Tearing a Devil Apart with Brute Strength

Chapter 97: Chapter 97: Tearing a Devil Apart with Brute Strength

"You’re overthinking it. The two of them are Devil Hunters from China. I met them while we were working a job together. They said they wanted to come to Japan and try sushi, so I brought them here."

Kotone Asaba rolled his eyes at Himeno.

Of course, that did not mean he was pretending not to understand and refusing to admit it.

In his view, a date was something mutual. He could personally think of it as a date, but it would only truly count as one if the other party also thought the same. He did not think Pingtsi and Long saw it that way.

"Himeno, you’re always like this. There’s a limit to how far you should take a joke."

Aki Hayakawa had given Himeno this kind of lecture more than once.

"Hehe~"

Himeno kept grinning. "But I saw it with my own eyes just now. Asaba was doing feeding roleplay with that Fiend girl. How is that not a date?"

"What the hell is feeding roleplay...?"

Luckily, Kotone Asaba had not been drinking water, or he might have sprayed it everywhere. Then he explained, "She’s a Fiend who really lacks common sense. If she eats sushi, she might eat the whole plate with it. I fed her myself to avoid trouble."

"Hahaha, fine, fine. I’ll stop joking around, or Aki’s going to lecture me again in a minute."

Himeno said.

"Aren’t you two the ones on a date?"

At that moment, Kotone Asaba asked back.

"No."

Aki Hayakawa answered immediately.

Himeno, on the other hand, nodded very frankly. "Yep, yep, it’s a date!"

"Really? It isn’t? I feel like you and Himeno are clearly very close."

Kotone Asaba deliberately said that to Aki Hayakawa.

"That’s just normal interaction between coworkers. Besides, Himeno and I are partners. It’s normal for partners to be a little close."

Aki Hayakawa said with a serious face, "This time, Himeno insisted on coming to a sushi restaurant to eat. That’s the only reason I came with her."

"Pfft~~"

Himeno could not help laughing. "Asaba, isn’t Aki hilarious when he gets all extra serious like this?"

"All right, enough of this. Hurry up and eat your sushi."

Kotone Asaba ended the topic.

"Who are these two? Are they your coworkers?"

Pingtsi looked at the two strangers who had come over, and since they were wearing the exact same uniform as Kotone Asaba, she could not help asking.

"That’s right. They’re my coworkers at Tokyo Public Safety, Aki Hayakawa and Himeno."

Kotone Asaba introduced them to Pingtsi and Long.

As for what Himeno had just said, he was not going to translate that for Pingtsi and Long.

"Oh? These two friends from China don’t speak Japanese?"

Hearing Kotone Asaba and the two Fiend girls keep talking to each other in English, Himeno asked.

"Yeah. They don’t understand Japanese at all, but I can communicate with them in English."

Kotone Asaba said.

"That’s amazing. Asaba, how many languages do you know? I heard that when you were in Moscow, you could communicate normally with those Soviet people too."

Himeno could not help exclaiming in admiration.

"It’s just a hobby. I like learning foreign languages."

Kotone Asaba casually explained.

Out of curiosity, Pingtsi used her ability to gain insight into Aki Hayakawa and Himeno.

One had the Fox Devil and the Curse Devil.

The other had the Ghost Devil.

"What is she doing?"

Looking at Pingtsi like that, Aki Hayakawa could not help furrowing his brow slightly.

"Pingtsi, don’t randomly use your ability on strangers."

Kotone Asaba immediately reminded Pingtsi. Although Pingtsi’s behavior was not exactly harmful, it really was a little impolite.

"What does it matter? It’s not like I’m going to say what I saw."

Pingtsi said with an unconcerned expression.

"...You actually have the nerve to say that."

Kotone Asaba felt slightly speechless. This girl had insisted on telling him about the devils Santa Claus had contracts with before. Like she could ever keep her mouth shut.

Forget it.

She had already looked anyway. Saying any of that now would be pointless.

Kotone Asaba then said to Aki Hayakawa in Japanese, "Her name is Pingtsi. She can see through the devils other people have contracts with. She has a habit of randomly looking at people, but she doesn’t mean any harm."

"I see."

There was no visible emotional fluctuation on Aki Hayakawa’s face, and he did not say anything more.

"Really? She can directly see through the devils we have contracts with?"

Himeno, on the other hand, became interested in Pingtsi.

Unfortunately, she did not understand English, so she could not communicate with Pingtsi.

"Yes. That’s how her devil power works."

Kotone Asaba also introduced Long to Aki Hayakawa and Himeno. "And this is Long Fiend. Her name is Long. She may lose control occasionally, but she doesn’t really have any ill will toward humans."

"So that means she was originally the Dragon Devil. Just hearing that makes her sound really cool."

Himeno was also quite interested in Long Fiend, and she even wanted to reach out and touch the horns on Long Fiend’s head.

Kotone Asaba noticed Himeno’s movement, predicted what she was thinking, and immediately reminded her, "You can’t touch the horns on her head carelessly."

Himeno’s outstretched hand immediately froze. "Oh, I see. That was close!"

Kotone Asaba’s words were a little vague, so Himeno thought it was like the idea of a dragon’s reverse scale, something that would have serious consequences if touched.

But in reality, it was not like that. It was just a sensitive spot...

"Well then, Aki, let’s eat here with them."

At that moment, Himeno said to Aki Hayakawa.

"No. If you want to sit with them, go ahead. I’ll sit somewhere else."

Aki Hayakawa did not seem willing to sit together with Pingtsi and Long.

"Figures. Aki is a little too rigid. He treats devils and Fiends the same way. Though it’s true that the vast majority of Fiends are about as dangerous as devils."

Aki Hayakawa had things that gave him headaches about Himeno, but Himeno also had things that gave her headaches about Aki.

"It’s fine. I understand him."

Kotone Asaba knew Aki Hayakawa’s personality very well. He was the classic type who acted harsh but was soft inside.

Even if someone was a Fiend, as long as they could get along normally, Aki Hayakawa would at most be rude with his words.

Once they had known each other long enough and developed some feelings, even his words would soften.

"I’ll go see if I can talk him into coming over."

Himeno immediately chased after him.

"Kotone Asaba, what’s going on with that human? The look in his eyes just now made me a little uncomfortable."

At that moment, Pingtsi said to Kotone Asaba.

She could feel clear hostility in the eyes of that man called Aki Hayakawa.

"Aki Hayakawa, huh. His family was killed by devils when he was young, so he hates devils deeply. You Fiends are basically similar to devils in essence, and he isn’t familiar with you yet..."

Kotone Asaba explained to Pingtsi and Long.

"Mm... If it were me from before, I probably wouldn’t be able to understand that kind of thinking. But now that I’ve become a Fiend, I can understand it."

Pingtsi said, "In short, as long as he doesn’t randomly attack us, it’s fine. Otherwise, I can’t just let myself be bullied."

Long Fiend had a blank, confused look on her face. Who knew whether she could understand what Kotone Asaba and Pingtsi were saying or not? She would not care how other people saw her anyway.

"It won’t go that far. He definitely won’t randomly attack you. Just enjoy your sushi."

Kotone Asaba said.

Pingtsi stopped caring about all that nonsense and continued happily enjoying the sushi.

However, when she saw Kotone Asaba personally feeding Long Fiend again, she could not help slightly puffing out her cheeks. Her ponytail also showed a slightly sulky expression.

"This isn’t fair."

"What isn’t fair?"

Kotone Asaba immediately froze slightly. For a moment, he could not react to what Pingtsi was talking about.

"You’re only feeding her yourself."

Pingtsi reached out and pointed at Long, while her ponytail pointed even more directly at the chopsticks in Kotone Asaba’s hand.

"What does fairness have to do with this? I’m worried she’ll randomly eat the plate too."

Kotone Asaba found it a little inexplicable. "Since you think it’s unfair, you feed her instead."

Of course, it was not as if Kotone Asaba could not tell that Pingtsi seemed a little jealous, but subconsciously, he assumed Pingtsi and Long were into women just like Quanxi, so he thought the key person making Pingtsi jealous was Long.

So the solution he thought of was to let Pingtsi feed Long Fiend.

"Huh...?"

Pingtsi was immediately a little stunned. She had not expected Kotone Asaba to say that.

But it did seem to make some sense. At the very least, she would be the one feeding Long, not Kotone Asaba doing it himself.

And so, Pingtsi really did switch places with Kotone Asaba, just as he said.

Long Fiend did not really understand what Kotone Asaba and Pingtsi were talking about, nor did she care at all. To her, as long as she could eat sushi, everything was fine.

Very soon, Himeno returned while dragging Aki Hayakawa back with her.

"Aki already agreed. Aki and I will sit on this side."

Himeno pulled Aki Hayakawa over and sat down on the side closer to Kotone Asaba. Pingtsi and Long were sitting across from Kotone Asaba, so Aki Hayakawa kept a certain distance from them.

After they finished eating sushi and paid the bill, the group sat in place and rested for a while.

"By the way, would these two Fiend girls from China be interested in spending a few days with us at Tokyo Public Safety?"

When Himeno said this, she was actually trying to see Pingtsi and Long’s devil powers.

Also, she wanted Aki to interact more with friendly Fiends.

"Based on the schedule, they should be flying back tomorrow at the latest, so they obviously don’t have time to spend a few days with us."

Kotone Asaba said.

"That’s a shame. But one day is fine too. If they’re interested, they can come patrol with us for a bit."

Himeno signaled for Kotone Asaba to ask them for her.

Kotone Asaba then said to Pingtsi and Long, "Himeno wants to invite you to experience Tokyo Public Safety’s work with them. She’s asking if you’re interested."

"Is there pay? Or good food works too. If not, forget it."

Pingtsi said.

Long Fiend also nodded, seemingly agreeing with Pingtsi’s view.

Kotone Asaba translated Pingtsi’s words to Himeno exactly as they were. "That’s what she said..."

"That definitely won’t be a problem!"

Himeno immediately made an "OK" gesture.

Once they had rested enough, Pingtsi and Long naturally followed Aki Hayakawa and Himeno on patrol.

And Kotone Asaba, as the indispensable translator, naturally acted together with them too.

"Himeno, are you doing this on purpose?"

The two Fiends could not understand Japanese, so Aki Hayakawa did not need to be too careful about what he said.

"Am I doing it on purpose?"

Himeno smiled and said, "I just think Fiends we can interact with in a friendly way are worth befriending. Even devils aren’t all absolutely guaranteed to hurt humans, right? Like that Fox Devil you have a contract with, Aki. She’s decent enough."

"Who knows how many people the Fox Devil has killed before? As far as I’m concerned, the Fox Devil and I don’t owe each other anything. If she hurts humans in the future, I’ll kill her all the same..."

Aki Hayakawa had originally wanted to add, The same goes for those two Fiends, but considering that Kotone Asaba was right beside him, and those two Fiends were people Kotone Asaba knew, he still did not say it out loud.

"At least for now, those two Fiend girls have no ill will toward humans, right? Just get along with them normally."

Himeno said.

"..."

Aki Hayakawa did not want to say anything more.

He could not bring himself to get along with Fiends.

Kotone Asaba merely listened from the side, staying silent the entire time.

Pingtsi and Long could not understand what Aki Hayakawa and Himeno were saying, and they were focused only on looking at the scenery around them.

During the patrol, they actually happened to run into a devil, and it was one that had not yet been discovered by private Devil Hunters.

However, it was a very average devil in terms of strength. Its overall appearance was that of a giant roadblock, many times larger than a normal roadblock, with the terrifying facial features devils commonly had. Other than that, there was nothing particularly special about it.

"Let me see... This is the Roadblock Devil. Its ability is using the mouth on its underside to swallow a lot of humans all at once. It looks pretty weak."

Pingtsi instantly saw through the details of the devil in front of them.

Kotone Asaba knew Himeno was curious about Pingtsi and Long’s devil powers, so he did not make a move. Instead, he immediately translated Pingtsi’s words for Himeno.

"Ooh! So she can not only see through other people’s contracted devils, she can also directly obtain information about devils."

Himeno praised her. "That ability is really convenient. Too bad she’s already a Fiend. Otherwise, I’d want to make a contract with her."

"Long, go kill it."

Pingtsi then said to Long.

This was also because there would be compensation. Otherwise, she and Long would be too lazy to do anything.

Long had an extreme lack of common sense, but her martial skill and combat instincts were first-rate. In particular, her physical techniques perfectly displayed the power the Dragon Devil ought to have.

She delivered a flying kick toward the top of the Roadblock Devil. The pointed tip at the top was directly snapped off by that kick, and blood immediately gushed out like a fountain.

Immediately afterward, she thrust both hands into the wound where the Roadblock Devil had broken, relying on her absurd strength to forcibly tear the Roadblock Devil in half.

Himeno rarely saw such terrifying physical strength, and she immediately exclaimed in amazement, "She really is worthy of being the Dragon Devil. Even with a human body, she can tear a devil apart with her bare hands!"

Aki Hayakawa’s eyes also could not help showing shock.

Even Kotone Asaba felt a little stunned watching it.

It made him subconsciously think of some ridiculous old war drama where a soldier got torn apart by hand, and what had just happened was far more exaggerated than that.

Even if the Roadblock Devil was a very weak devil, it was still a devil. Yet it had been directly torn in half barehanded by a Fiend who looked human on the outside.

No matter how you looked at it, from a visual standpoint alone, it delivered an extremely intense impact to the eyes.
