Chainsaw Man: Mangekyo Sharingan
Chapter 98: Making a Fool of Herself After DrinkingChapter 98: Chapter 98: Making a Fool of Herself After Drinking
After killing the Roadblock Devil, Long Fiend licked the blood from her hand, then frowned and immediately spat it out.
"Ptoo!"
It seemed that after tasting Kotone Asaba’s blood, she found devil blood even more disgusting than before, even though she had never been very interested in it to begin with.
"So? These two Fiend girls don’t show even the slightest mercy toward devils. Besides, they wouldn’t be able to work as Devil Hunters in China otherwise."
Himeno said that to Aki Hayakawa.
"...I know."
Aki Hayakawa responded expressionlessly.
After seeing Pingtsi and Long’s attitude toward devils with his own eyes, his opinion of them changed a little, though he did not show it on his face.
The Roadblock Devil’s corpse was left for someone else to handle, while Kotone Asaba and the others continued patrolling.
"That stone-faced guy still seems pretty biased against me and Long. Speaking of which, don’t you feel uncomfortable interacting with us?"
At that moment, Pingtsi suddenly spoke.
Back when she had first invited Kotone Asaba to act together in Germany, she had thought he only accepted out of necessity for the mission, but later, she gradually realized that he really could get along with her and Long in a friendly way.
He had brought them to Japan to buy doughnuts and eat sushi, and he was even willing to let them drink his blood.
The fact that his blood was delicious beyond belief was not actually the main point. Back in China, who would ever willingly give them blood to drink? Most people wished they could stay as far away from them as possible. They usually only received blood bags of unknown origin from the authorities.
Fiends being discriminated against was inevitable. Pingtsi had studied humans. Even among their own kind, humans felt a certain degree of exclusion toward anyone who was not from the same race or even the same region, let alone toward devils like her, who were essentially humanity’s natural enemies.
At first, she had not cared about discrimination or anything like that, but after gradually gaining emotions as rich as a human’s, she could not help feeling a little sad and disappointed.
As her and Long’s achievements grew more and more impressive, discrimination from their coworkers had decreased by a lot, but she still did not particularly want to befriend those coworkers, because the discrimination rooted deep in their bones remained unchanged.
Only this human named Kotone Asaba was different. From the very beginning, he had not looked at them strangely, and with Pingtsi’s keen senses, she had never detected the slightest hint of discrimination from him.
"I don’t. And why would I feel uncomfortable? Just because you’re Fiends?"
Kotone Asaba asked back.
"Yeah. I’ve interacted with so many people, and basically not a single one of them didn’t discriminate against us deep down. But after all, we’re essentially devils. It can’t be helped if people feel wary of us."
Pingtsi said.
"How should I put this..."
Kotone Asaba was a little unsure what to say now. After all, he was simply like this because he knew Pingtsi and Long very well, and because he was confident in his own strength.
Also, he was a transmigrator. He did not have any deep hatred toward devils, much less toward Fiends.
And Pingtsi and Long were Devil Hunters from China, which gave him even more of a sense of closeness toward them.
After a while, Kotone Asaba organized his thoughts and said, "It’s probably because I have a good impression of people from China. Plus, I don’t really have much of a grudge against devils, so naturally, I don’t hate Fiends either."
"Oh~ So that’s how it is."
Pingtsi did not say anything more.
She hummed a little tune, seeming to be in quite a good mood, and the expression on her ponytail indeed looked rather pleased.
"What are you two talking about?"
Hearing Asaba and Pingtsi say a bunch of things she could not understand, Himeno could not help curiously leaning over and asking.
"Nothing much."
Kotone Asaba said.
"Come on, Asaba, now you’re bullying me for not knowing English. What a shame. I can’t talk to Pingtsi and Long directly."
Himeno placed one hand on Pingtsi’s shoulder and the other on Long’s, seemingly not at all worried that the two Fiends might suddenly hurt her.
"Himeno, it’s better not to get too close to Fiends."
Aki Hayakawa kindly reminded Himeno.
"Aki, there you go again. Don’t overthink it. As long as I don’t make them angry, it’ll definitely be fine."
Himeno looked completely unconcerned.
Although Kotone Asaba understood Pingtsi and Long very well, he also felt that Himeno was being a little careless.
At just that moment, Himeno added, "Besides, the fact that Asaba is willing to get this close to these two Fiend girls already says everything, doesn’t it~?"
Himeno suddenly said something that sounded a little vague and roundabout.
Aki Hayakawa understood what Himeno meant instantly. He had almost overlooked that point.
In his mind, Kotone Asaba was very smart and very capable. If he was willing to interact so closely with those two Fiends, then there really was nothing to worry about.
"..."
Kotone Asaba felt like he was being praised a little too much. He pretended not to understand what Himeno was talking about and stayed silent.
By evening, they got off work on time.
"Come on, let’s go have dinner together."
Himeno specially invited Pingtsi and Long to eat dinner with them.
"Himeno wants to invite you two to dinner."
Kotone Asaba immediately said to Pingtsi and Long.
"Sure."
Pingtsi agreed without even thinking about it. Long, needless to say, was even more willing.
Normally, Aki Hayakawa should have refused to eat with Pingtsi and Long Fiend, but at this moment, he remained silent.
However, before they went to eat, Himeno first returned to Tokyo Public Safety.
The Roadblock Devil’s corpse had long since been recovered by Tokyo Public Safety.
The bonus they should have received for hunting the Roadblock Devil was counted under the names of Himeno, Aki Hayakawa, and Kotone Asaba, because Pingtsi and the others were not Devil Hunters from Tokyo Public Safety.
However, after Himeno learned the exact total amount of the bonus, she paid Pingtsi and Long out of her own pocket in advance for the money that would only be settled and issued next month.
When they were going back to China, Himeno also planned to give them a lot of Japanese specialty foods.
At dinner.
"Want to try some? This stuff tastes really good~"
Himeno started drinking as usual, and she even wanted to get Pingtsi and Long to drink with her.
"Isn’t this just alcohol? It doesn’t seem like it’d taste very good."
Pingtsi had never drunk alcohol before and had no real interest in it. Just smelling it, she felt it was not as good as Coca-Cola or Sprite.
"Really! It tastes great. Look how much Aki and I are enjoying it!"
Himeno’s face was already starting to flush a little.
Aki Hayakawa, beside her, was indeed drinking alcohol just as she said. Because they had killed the Roadblock Devil, Himeno had applied for a full day off tomorrow. She and Aki could drink to their hearts’ content tonight.
"Himeno, don’t encourage other people to drink."
Aki Hayakawa did not forget to comment on Himeno even while drinking.
"Does it really taste that good...?"
Tempted by Himeno, Pingtsi began feeling a little restless. She wanted to try this stuff and see whether it was really as good as Himeno claimed.
With Kotone Asaba translating, Pingtsi and Himeno could still communicate normally.
As for Pingtsi being encouraged by Himeno to drink, he was too lazy to care. Drinking a little alcohol was not a big deal anyway.
Out of curiosity, Pingtsi took her first sip.
It felt... not that good?
Pingtsi thought maybe she had not drunk enough to feel anything, so she went on to drink the entire cup.
Still pretty average...?
Pingtsi felt that it did not taste as good as Coca-Cola or Sprite. Why did other people think it tasted good?
However, there was a strange feeling...
"Ooh! You finished a whole cup in one go! Another cup, another cup!"
Himeno’s tone already sounded a little drunk, and she filled another full cup for Pingtsi.
But Pingtsi did not really want to drink anymore. At that moment, she saw Kotone Asaba personally feeding Long again, and a wave of jealousy immediately surged up in her heart.
For some reason, her emotions were hard to control right now.
She tugged at Kotone Asaba’s arm and said bluntly, "Feed me!"
"?"
Kotone Asaba turned his head and looked, only to find that Pingtsi’s face was bright red, and the expression on her ponytail was very clearly drunk.
"You got drunk this quickly?"
Kotone Asaba was immediately very surprised. Pingtsi had only drunk one cup, yet she had actually already gotten drunk like this.
Wasn’t her alcohol tolerance a little too terrible?
Pingtsi ignored what Kotone Asaba had just said and emphasized again, "Feed me!"
She even opened her mouth and leaned toward Kotone Asaba, waiting to be fed.
"All right, all right."
Seeing Pingtsi’s small mouth getting closer and closer, Kotone Asaba immediately picked up a piece of meat with his chopsticks and fed it to her.
He thought Pingtsi was just acting drunk, so he did not think too much of it.
Kotone Asaba had to feed both Pingtsi and Long at the same time, leaving him no time to eat anything himself.
If he had known Pingtsi’s alcohol tolerance was this bad, he would not have translated for Himeno.
Meanwhile, Himeno and Aki Hayakawa were competing to see who could drink more.
When Kotone Asaba noticed that Himeno was already hopelessly drunk, his sharp awareness immediately prompted him to take Pingtsi and Long outside for some temporary "evacuation."
That way, he could avoid getting randomly kissed by Himeno later. He would leave Aki Hayakawa alone to enjoy that blessing.
Kotone Asaba also had no intention of explaining to Pingtsi and Long why they were going outside. He simply said they were going out for a walk.
However, Pingtsi was so drunk that she could not even walk steadily, and Kotone Asaba had to support her.
But Pingtsi was rather petite, and supporting her like that was not comfortable for him, so he simply carried her on his back.
Long had not drunk any alcohol. With Pingtsi as a cautionary example, Kotone Asaba dared even less to let Long drink. If her tolerance and drunken behavior were both bad, it would be trouble.
At this moment, Pingtsi was half-asleep and half-awake, but she was not behaving at all. She kept rubbing her face against Kotone Asaba’s like a cat, and even her ponytail rubbed against the other side of his face.
"..."
Kotone Asaba sighed softly.
After wandering around outside for a while, they returned to Himeno’s side.
The moment they came back, they saw Himeno and Aki Hayakawa already sprawled on the tatami, fast asleep. There were still some saliva marks visible on Aki Hayakawa’s mouth, clearly indicating that an intense kiss had just taken place.
Fortunately, Himeno did not seem to have vomited while kissing him. Otherwise, Aki Hayakawa probably would have been left with psychological trauma.
After that, Kotone Asaba had Long support Pingtsi while he went to pay the bill.
Then he supported Aki Hayakawa and Himeno and brought them back to Himeno’s home. He used the key on Himeno to open the door, helped the two of them onto the bed, and then left them alone.
As for Pingtsi and Long, they had nowhere to stay, so they could only stay at his place.
The dormitory Tokyo Public Safety had arranged for Kotone Asaba had more than one room, so he had Pingtsi and Long sleep in another room.
Kotone Asaba helped Pingtsi onto the bed and covered her with the blanket. He did not do anything extra.
But just as he was about to leave, Pingtsi suddenly grabbed him and hugged him.
He thought Pingtsi was trying to pull the blanket and grabbed the wrong thing, but he soon noticed that Pingtsi’s eyes were open. However, her gaze was hazy, and she had clearly not sobered up at all.
Kotone Asaba easily slipped free from Pingtsi’s arms and tossed a pillow to her instead. Pingtsi immediately hugged the pillow.
Kotone Asaba then went back to his own room to sleep. He did not hear Pingtsi in the other room mumble "I like you" several times.
The night passed without incident.
When Pingtsi woke up in the morning, she had already sobered up and remembered what had happened last night.
Aaaaaah...!!!
Her face immediately flushed bright red. She squeezed her cheeks with both hands and buried her face in the pillow, her mind a complete mess.
She seemed to have gotten drunk last night. What a terrible mistake!
She had actually done such embarrassing things!
Pingtsi deeply regretted trying alcohol last night. In the future, she would absolutely never touch even a single drop of alcohol again!
Now she had no idea how she was supposed to face Kotone Asaba.
Just then, Kotone Asaba gently knocked on the door.
"Are you awake? If you are, hurry up and come eat breakfast."
Pingtsi pretended not to be awake, mainly because she was too embarrassed to respond.
Long, on the other hand, opened the door and walked out for breakfast without even putting her clothes on properly. She was only wearing her underwear.
Pingtsi hurriedly curled her whole body under the blanket and pretended to be asleep.
"Why are you coming out half-naked? Go put your clothes on first."
Kotone Asaba pushed Long back into the room and casually closed the door.
Long obediently got dressed inside the room before coming out.
"Is Pingtsi still not awake?"
When he noticed that Pingtsi still had not come out, Kotone Asaba could not help asking Long.
"Awake..."
Long grabbed some bread and started chewing on it. In her other hand, she carefully held a cup of milk. If she used even slightly too much force, it would be easy for her to crush the cup.
"If she’s awake, why isn’t she coming out?"
Kotone Asaba then went into the room to check what was wrong with Pingtsi.
He knocked on the door, waited for a while, and still received no response.
Then he opened the door and saw the blanket on the bed bulging. Pingtsi was clearly curled up inside.
"Didn’t Long say you’re awake?"
Kotone Asaba asked.
But Pingtsi remained completely silent and did not respond at all.
Kotone Asaba could see the blanket moving slightly. He suspected that Pingtsi was pretending to be asleep, otherwise, there was no way she would not make even the slightest sound.
But that raised the question. Why pretend to be asleep?
"If you don’t get up, I’m going to play a prank on you."
Kotone Asaba could not directly pull off the blanket, so he only lifted the blanket at the foot of the bed. Pingtsi’s little feet were exposed just like that.
Pingtsi’s feet were very small, soft, fair, and delicate. Her toes looked like tender lotus root sprouts.
Pingtsi did not understand what Kotone Asaba meant by a prank, and she continued forcing herself to pretend to be asleep.
"Ah!"
It was not until the sole of her foot was gently scratched that an indescribably strange stimulation instantly made her cry out, and her foot quickly retreated back inside.
"So you really were pretending to be asleep. What’s wrong with you? Instead of getting up for breakfast, you’re hiding here and pretending to sleep for no reason?"
Kotone Asaba could not understand why Pingtsi was pretending to be asleep.
"T-this has nothing to do with you! Anyway, go out first. I need to get dressed..."
Pingtsi was still hiding under the blanket, her voice muffled.
"Fine. Don’t drag it out, or even the milk will get cold."
Kotone Asaba then left the room.
