Chapter 395 - 393:Homecoming gone… wrong.Chapter 395: Chapter 393:Homecoming gone... wrong.
A/N:Sorry for the very late Chapters, I’ve been alternating between unconsciousness and consciousness due to extreme tiredness ...
But please, enjoy..

Home.
Can’t say I wasn’t eager.
With most of the things I’d learned and acquired here, I was quite eager to go back and get myself sorted out.
And it was also time to wrap up some loose ends.
I forced down the cold, murderous thought that threatened to spill out of my head, turning toward Leo as I answered, "Yeah. Let’s do that."
"Great."
....
....
....
"So... why isn’t anything happening?" I couldn’t help asking after a few minutes of everyone just standing around looking like idiots.
"What were you expecting to happen?" Leo asked back.
"You fucking featherbrain bastard! Didn’t you say we should be going home?"
"I did."
"So why are we not going home yet? Why’s everyone just standing around looking like an idiot?"
"Master... you would never look like a..."
SLAP!!
"Ahhh!!!"
I smacked the bastard flying before he could finish his words.
"Not now, Shulvan," I grated as I turned back toward the chicken-cat.
"Tell me, Dante, do you remember what your objective was in coming to the Abyss?" His question made me pause. Thinking for a bit just to be sure, I finally replied, "Kill an Infernal and bring back its corpse as proof, why?"
"That’s right. Kill an Infernal and bring back its corpse."
"So, tell me, you’ve seen the Infernals, what do you think? For a test said to have a supposedly high fatality rate, is it what it’s cut out to be?" I couldn’t help thinking about it properly.
The Infernals were powerful, no doubt. But they were, like any other beast out there, mindless creatures driven more by instinct than intelligence.
That’s not to say they weren’t a danger to most of the students, but if said students were to band together, then taking out multiple Infernals shouldn’t be an impossible task...
"It’s not. With the right planning and strategy, anyone can pass the test," I replied.
"Good. So, tell me, do you believe the academy didn’t think of this?"
"They definitely did." Of course they did. But then, "Why?" I asked. The academy definitely knew that people could band together, so why still make this easy? Yes, easy. Those bastards tossed newly arrived students into the Land of the Damned for sport, of course they wouldn’t make such a silly mistake.
"That’s the right question. Why would the academy, the graveyard of geniuses, give said geniuses such an easy-to-complete task?"
"Stop trying to be mysterious, you little fucker. Just spit it out."
"Haaa... impatient fuck."
"What was that?"
"I said you’re an impatient motherfucker! Bite me!" The bastard had the guts to even say it again. "Now tell me, do you remember how they said you’d get out of here?" Before I could react, he threw me a curveball.
I stopped. My head ran circles as I tried to recall anything Liz might’ve said that related to such a thing, but...
"They didn’t..." My eyes slowly widened in realization.
"Ahh... seems you’re not too dumb after all."
"Motherfuckers!!! No wonder this shit was supposed to have so many fatalities!!" I couldn’t help swearing in disgruntlement.
Those academy bastards. They chucked us into this Abyss without ever giving us a way out or information about how to leave, because the test was never to kill an Infernal.
The goal all along had always been one simple thing.
Leave the Abyss alive.
Simple.
Exit the Abyss and you qualify for your ascension.
And the moment I realized that, I understood why the test would be a literal suicide mission.
With how arrogant those test-takers would be, they were bound to clash with the natives of this place, the Abyss Walkers. And with the way Abyss Walkers hated being addressed in that form by outsiders, evident by the fact that I was attacked the moment I appeared within a city, it was already clear what the outcome would be.
A battle.
One that the students would never be able to win. Because even if they killed the first group, they would just attract more, until eventually, someone like Kolen’kul would be after them for killing someone they shouldn’t have, and if that were to happen, then...
"Fuck!" Those cruel bastards...
"Heh! Gotta say, I’m impressed." I couldn’t help nodding in approval.
Truly, what a devious way of weeding flowers from weeds. Only in this case, the flowers were the ones to be burnt to ashes instead.
"Alright, Leo, congrats, you got your mysterious old sage moment. I admit defeat."
"Meowhahahahahahahahahahahha... now bow and call me master and I might consider taking you as a student under my wing."
"Don’t get carried away. Don’t let me begin considering turning you into soup again." My words successfully shut up the annoying guy.
"So, jokes aside, how do we leave this place?"
"We have to get to a major city and await another reset. A major city because space is more stable there, and a reset because the laws are easier to manipulate then. We can use the chaos there and tear a hole through space, taking us back to Terra. Since we’re from there, it will be like hitting a default return button," Leo replied.
"—"
I understood shit from that, but so long as the gist of it was I get to go home, then I’m game.
"Alright, whatever you say. So, where do we go?"
"Ooh... ooh... I’ve got the perfect place to go. And Dante, we can take this time to spread your name like you wanted through multiple adventures." Salazar’s excited voice cut into the conversation.
"I don’t trust your levels of excitement, but I don’t really have a desire to stay in this dreary place any longer than necessary, so we might as well go with it."
"Yay!!! Alright, everyone. Huddle up." We gathered together as Salazar covered us with his aura and then...
WAP!!
We were gone, our next destination the Eternal City, Neverend!
.....
.....
One Abyss month later...
"Ahh... finally.." I stretched as I looked outside the massive city walls.
Gigantic storms had appeared outside the city, their paths leaving nothing but pandemonium in their wake.
We had arrived at Neverend over a month ago, and true to their nature, the Chronari had turned this abyssal city into a utopia of peace and knowledge. I had wanted to meet the emperor, Ethos, who was apparently Salazar’s father, but was put off when they told me he had left.
"It was a really fun month," I couldn’t help remarking as I looked back at the never-ending city behind me. A city that till now I had yet to fully walk around.
One month of clearing dangerous and impossible missions had given my name the terror it deserved.
Now, whenever the name Absolute came up, there would only be one face attached to the title.
"Looks like this is farewell, Master. Shulvan will be eternally..."
SLAP!!!
"Ahhh!!"
"What the fuck are you doing?"
"Saying my goodbyes?"
"What goodbyes? You’re coming with me."
The eyes of everyone widened as they heard my words.
"Come with you? Dante, you’re saying you’ll take Sulvan with you? He’s an Abyss Walker. We’re not meant to leave the Abyss, that’s the rule."
"Salazar..." My words stopped the speaking man cold.
"Do you think I enjoy repeating myself? What have I said consistently?"
....
....
"In that case... can I come?" he finally asked after a few moments of silence.
"You should’ve asked straight away instead of going around the question." I smiled.
"Now then, shall we?" I covered everyone in my aura and before they could react...
SNAP!
Spatial displacement took us away.
What? Of course I could have always done that. I was merely looking for an excuse to stay here longer, plus I found it fun to let Leo have his little Einstein moment, after all, I wouldn’t have been as carefree in this place if I wasn’t absolutely certain of my means of leaving..
"Hehe..."
....
WAP!
The familiar scent of dread and decay hit me first before anything else.
And then...
CLICK!
I heard it clearly. Like a lock snapping back into place as I felt my powers get rapidly suppressed. A feeling of overwhelming weakness washing over me.
It hadn’t been obvious before the Abyss, but after experiencing what my true powers were, the difference was jarring.
I shook my head wryly as I raised my head and took in the environment around me.
"Ahh... finally, home—"
"Ack... Urghh.. I’m.. I’m dying... I’m dying.." The overdramatic exclamation of Salazar caught my attention as I looked back.
"What are you doing?" I couldn’t help addressing the man sprawled like a dead fish on the floor.
"My power.. I’m dying.."
"Ahh.. yeah. You’ll get used to it." I ignored the man. At least Shulvan was taking it better.
I finally looked around properly and then...
"Kaila?" My face froze as I made eye contact with a very familiar figure in the distance.
"Khalifa? Mira? Clarissa? Liz?" I looked around and all around us, the military men from earlier were nowhere to be found, only the faces of those I knew...
A bad feeling started rising up in my gut and then...
Step. Step. Step.
The sound of approaching footsteps reached my ears. I looked over and then...
"Aunt V?"
"Dante... my love..." Her voice. There was something wrong with her voice. The bad feeling increased.
"Dante... I—no. We have something to tell you." At her words, I looked around. The others had also approached. Their expressions...
"Aunt V... what happened?" I asked as the uneasy feeling continued rising, and then, she spoke words I didn’t believe would be what I’d receive as a welcome after exiting the Abyss...
"Dante... it’s Melissa..."
My heart dropped.
"They... They took Melissa..."
CRACK!!!
...
...
"...What?"
