In front of the cave, a group of menacing Martial Artists had gathered. In the center of their circle stood Xu Hao and his companions.
A pale-faced Murong Wanqing lay in Ling Feng’s arms. She had been forcefully awakened by the dozen or so people, causing the injuries that Shen Haoran had worked so hard to stabilize to relapse. Xu Hao and the other four stood in front of Murong Wanqing, warily watching the surrounding Martial Artists.
"Ling Feng, stop playing the good guy! Hand over Shen Haoran now!"
"That’s right! Shen Haoran is the monster who’s been ambushing and killing us! How dare you bring him here? You clearly have no regard for our lives!"
"Hand over Shen Haoran, and we’ll spare you. Otherwise, you can all die with him!"
The surrounding disciples pointed at Xu Hao and his companions, their voices cold.
"Bullshit! You’re the real monsters! My boss is an honorable and righteous man. How could he possibly be a monster who kills without batting an eye? You’re slandering him!" Xu Hao shouted in rebuttal upon hearing their accusations, but his lone voice sounded so small.
"Slander? We have all the proof we need," one disciple sneered. "Shen Haoran is that murdering monster. Hand him over!"
"Stop wasting your breath on them! Let’s just tie them up. We’ll see if Shen Haoran still refuses to submit then!" another disciple shouted.
The surrounding disciples nodded in agreement and swarmed forward to capture Xu Hao’s group. But just as they did, several streaks of black Sword Light flashed, embedding themselves in the ground around Xu Hao and stopping the disciples in their tracks.
"Boss!" A look of wild joy spread across Xu Hao’s face as he saw the black longswords. The expressions of the surrounding disciples, however, soured.
WHOOSH! As expected, Shen Haoran’s figure abruptly materialized in front of Xu Hao in the next instant. The moment he appeared and saw Murong Wanqing’s pale complexion, his own expression turned grim. He darted to her side in a single bound, not even sparing the other Martial Artists a glance.
After carefully examining Murong Wanqing’s condition, Shen Haoran’s expression grew even grimmer. Her old injuries had relapsed, and that, compounded by a backlash from her own Spiritual Power, had made her condition much more severe.
"Xu Hao, is this what you call protecting Wanqing?" Shen Haoran’s voice was ice-cold, a faint murderous aura swirling around him.
"Boss, I..." Hearing Shen Haoran’s words, Xu Hao and his companions involuntarily lowered their heads. He had solemnly sworn when Shen Haoran left that he would protect Murong Wanqing and let no one disturb her. Yet, because of his negligence, this group of Martial Artists had forcefully awakened her, making her injuries even more severe.
"Hmph. I’ll settle this with you all later!" Shen Haoran snorted. He then retrieved a few Elixirs from his Storage Ring and placed them in Murong Wanqing’s mouth. He also channeled streams of pure Spiritual Power into her body to help with the Elixirs’ Refinement and temporarily stabilize her injuries.
"Shen Haoran, are we invisible to you? Hmph! We have proof that you’re the monster who’s been attacking our companions. Now, you’re coming with us!" Seeing that Shen Haoran was completely ignoring them, the Martial Artists glared at him with ugly expressions.
But after they spoke, Shen Haoran still gave no reaction. His eyes remained tightly shut as he continued to heal Murong Wanqing, as if the people standing before him were nothing but thin air.
"You... Fine! If you won’t cooperate, then don’t blame us for what comes next!" Seeing that Shen Haoran remained unmoved, one of the disciples yelled and charged toward him.
"Noisy." Just as the Martial Artist was about to reach him, Shen Haoran’s tightly closed eyes snapped open. Two tangible beams of black light shot out, striking the man square in the head. The powerful Spiritual Thought instantly obliterated the Martial Artist’s Sea of Consciousness. The light slowly faded from the eyes of the man whose Sea of Consciousness had been destroyed, and he collapsed limply to the ground, silent and still.
HISS... Seeing this, the surrounding disciples couldn’t help but gasp. ’Isn’t this strange technique the exact same one the monster uses? Shen Haoran... he *is* the black monster!’
While they stood there in shock, Shen Haoran finished temporarily stabilizing Murong Wanqing’s injuries. He slowly got to his feet, his glacial eyes sweeping over the surrounding Martial Artists as a tangible killing intent billowed around him.
’If I hadn’t gotten here in time, these bastards would have forced Murong Wanqing to her death. Not a single one of them will be spared!’
"Speak. Who sent you?" Shen Haoran’s icy voice rang out. ’I’ve shown my strength before. I’m sure these cowards wouldn’t have dared to come looking for trouble with me on their own. Their true objective was to harm Murong Wanqing to use her against me. Someone must be behind this.’
"Hmph! What do you mean, ’who sent us’? You ambushed and killed our companions! We naturally have a responsibility to expose you for who you really are!" Hearing Shen Haoran’s question, the Martial Artists’ expressions flickered, and one immediately retorted.
"Refusing to talk? Fine. Then none of you need to live anymore." Hearing their evasions, Shen Haoran narrowed his eyes, a cold light flashing within them. In the next instant, his figure vanished, transforming into a bolt of black lightning that streaked toward the Martial Artists.
"Brother Shen, stay your hand!" The instant Shen Haoran moved, Jian Wushuang’s voice echoed from the distance. But by the time he arrived, it was too late. Shen Haoran’s speed was terrifying. Before Jian Wushuang could even finish shouting, the dozen or so Martial Artists were already headless corpses.
Gazing at the dozen-plus corpses on the ground, the corner of Jian Wushuang’s eye twitched. ’This Shen Haoran is certainly decisive when he kills. He shows absolutely no mercy.’
"Brother Jian, I’ll trouble you to pass on a warning to a certain someone," Shen Haoran’s icy voice resounded, echoing in front of the cave and refusing to fade. "If he’s looking for trouble with me, I will be more than happy to oblige. But if he dares to touch the people by my side again, I will make him regret the day he was born!"
Hearing this, Jian Wushuang’s mouth twitched as if to speak, but he ultimately remained silent. He knew exactly who the "certain someone" Shen Haoran mentioned was. All he could do was rub his forehead helplessly. ’Looks like I need to have a chat with him,’ he thought. ’Hopefully, he won’t stir up any more trouble before the matter with the Saint Emperor Sect is settled. Shen Haoran is clearly not a person you want to mess with!’
