Chaos Heaven-Dominating Technique
Chapter 526 - 522: Setting the Mountain on FireTime passed in the blink of an eye. Two days had gone by since the Fallen Valley’s attack on the Shen Family. The number of Martial Artists watching from outside the estate dwindled. In their eyes, the Shen Family was at the end of its rope. Hiding in the back mountain was merely delaying the inevitable. Faced with so many powerful experts, the Shen Clan Members couldn’t escape even if they grew wings.
Two days later, the Spirit Emperor Powerhouse waiting in mid-air finally lost his patience. It had been two full days, and the group that entered the back mountain still hadn’t sent back any news. With a frown, his figure shot toward the Shen Family’s back mountain.
"What’s going on? It’s been two days, and you can’t even find a few stragglers? Are you waiting for me to take action myself?" the elderly man of the Spirit Emperor Tier demanded, having found the members of Fallen Valley, his expression frigid.
"Fifth Elder, this back mountain is quite large, and we aren’t familiar with the terrain. The Shen Clan Members, on the other hand, have lived here for generations. Trying to find a few people is genuinely difficult!" one of the Elders explained with a bitter, helpless expression. They had been searching for two days and had picked up their enemies’ trail several times. But each time they closed in, the Shen Clan Members had already relocated. Time and again, they had escaped right from under their noses.
Hearing that Elder’s words, the Spirit Emperor Powerhouse known as the Fifth Elder narrowed his eyes, a cold glint flashing within them. "Are you making excuses?" he asked flatly.
Feeling the icy killing intent radiating from the Fifth Elder, the Fallen Valley disciples couldn’t help but swallow nervously. They quickly shook their heads and said, "Fifth Elder, please calm your anger! We will find those few who escaped from the Shen Family as soon as possible. We guarantee we will kill them!"
"Hmph. If I have to rely on you useless trash, it’ll take forever! Set the mountain on fire," the Fifth Elder ordered in a cold voice, glancing coolly at the other disciples. "I refuse to believe that won’t force them out!"
The other disciples were stunned by the Fifth Elder’s command, and their faces turned grim. "Fifth Elder, setting the mountain ablaze... that might not be a good idea," one of them said hesitantly. "The Shen Family’s back mountain borders the Profound Spirit Mountain Range. If the fire spreads there, it would be disastrous. The Profound Spirit Mountain Range is one of the largest mountain ranges on the entire continent. This could affect the whole continent!"
"Hmph, the whole continent?" the Fifth Elder sneered. "Since when has our Fallen Valley ever considered the consequences of its actions? All I know is that exterminating the Shen Family is a direct order from the Valley Master. And if you fail to complete the task he has given you... you know the consequences!"
At the mention of the Fallen Valley’s Valley Master, the other Registered Disciples couldn’t help but tremble. They no longer dared to voice any objection to the Fifth Elder’s order. They immediately took out torches and hurled them toward the Shen Family’s back mountain. In an instant, a great fire surged, transforming the once lush, green mountain into a sea of flames.
...
Meanwhile, deep within the Shen Family’s back mountain, Old Sir Shen sat cross-legged inside a cave. Wisps of Spiritual Power swirled around his body, helping him recover from his internal injuries. As the Spiritual Power flowed into him, color began to return to his pale face.
A short while later, Old Sir Shen’s tightly shut eyes slowly opened. He exhaled a breath of turbid air, and his whole spirit seemed much more vigorous.
"Old Clan Leader, your injuries..." the Third Elder asked joyfully, seeing the healthy color return to Old Sir Shen’s face.
"Mm, they’re no longer a major issue," Old Sir Shen said, clenching his fist. "With another day or two to recover, I should be able to return to my Peak state!"
"That’s wonderful!" Hearing that Old Sir Shen’s injuries were healing, a look of joy spread across the faces of the Shen Clan Members. This was the best news they had heard in two days.
Old Sir Shen looked at the tense faces of the Shen Clan Members, and his heart ached with sorrow. So many of the Shen Family’s sons had died at the hands of those black-robed men. Now, only a large group of women and children remained. ’The Shen Family,’ he thought, ’was nearly destroyed in my hands.’
"Old Clan Leader, who exactly are those people? Why are they attacking our Shen Family?" the Third Elder asked, his brow tightly furrowed in confusion.
"I don’t know," Old Sir Shen said with conviction. "But what I do know is that they aren’t targeting the Shen Family. They’re targeting Haoran!" The black-robed men had mentioned Shen Haoran’s name before, so Old Sir Shen was certain this group was after him.
"Targeting Haoran?" A look of astonishment flashed through the Third Elder’s eyes. ’Judging by the strength and Martial Skills of these Martial Artists, they must be from some Major Sect. How could Haoran have provoked such a behemoth?’
"No matter what, we cannot drag Haoran down," Old Sir Shen said, looking at the Shen Clan Members with do-or-die resolution in his eyes. "This time, even if every last one of us dies, we absolutely must not reveal Haoran’s location. Haoran is the Shen Family’s last hope! If we die, he will surely avenge us!"
"That’s right! Even if we die, we won’t let these bastards succeed!" the Shen Clan Members roared in unison, all fear having vanished from their eyes.
Looking at the passionate Shen Clan Members before him, Old Sir Shen’s eyes reddened, and he was deeply moved. But just at that moment, a disciple standing guard outside rushed in, his face pale with panic. "This is bad, Old Clan Leader!" he shouted. "Those people... they’re setting the mountain on fire!"
"What!" Hearing the disciple’s words, everyone present was startled and immediately rushed out of the cave. When they saw the thick smoke billowing up from the base of the mountain and the rapidly spreading inferno, their faces fell.
"These people... they’re actually setting fire to the mountain just to force us out! Aren’t they afraid of divine retribution?" the Third Elder exclaimed in a rage.
Old Sir Shen’s face was also grim. He had underestimated this group’s determination to slaughter the Shen Clan Members. ’To resort to burning down the entire mountain... they’re completely mad!’
"Shen Bowen, take the clan’s children and leave first! Flee toward the Profound Spirit Mountain Range!" Old Sir Shen commanded in a low voice, watching the sea of fire rapidly spread toward them. "Remember, even if it costs you your life, you must preserve a branch of our Shen Family’s bloodline!" This Shen Bowen was one of the more powerful disciples who had survived.
"Old Clan Leader, then what about you...?" Shen Bowen asked, feeling a growing unease at the finality in Old Sir Shen’s tone.
"The Third Elder, the Hidden Guard, and I will stay behind to buy you time!" Old Sir Shen roared. "Remember my words! Even in death, you must ensure our Shen Family’s bloodline continues! Otherwise, when you descend to the Underworld, don’t even think about receiving forgiveness from our Shen Family’s ancestors!"
"What are you waiting for? Go!" the Third Elder bellowed.
Looking at the imposing figures of Old Sir Shen and the Third Elder with their backs to him, Shen Bowen grit his teeth as tears streamed down his face.
"Old Clan Leader, Third Elder, rest assured! I will absolutely complete this mission!" Shen Bowen declared, slamming a fist hard against his chest. Without another moment’s hesitation, he turned and charged in the direction of the Profound Spirit Mountain Range...
