"Get lost!" Shen Haoran roared, kicking the Fifth Elder and sending him tumbling down the mountain. The once-imperious Fifth Elder could only grit his teeth against the searing pain. He gave Shen Haoran a deep, meaningful look, then turned and left.
"Shen the kid, are you sure you’re just letting him go like that?" Elder Yan asked with a frown, watching the Fifth Elder’s retreating figure. "That Fifth Elder is still a Spirit Emperor Level expert, after all. And Fallen Valley’s resources run deep. Even though you’ve destroyed his Dantian, they might have ways to restore him to his peak. Letting a tiger back into the mountains... it’s just not wise."
Shen Haoran was well aware of Elder Yan’s concerns, but he still nodded. Letting the Fifth Elder go today was meant to send Fallen Valley a message: he, Shen Haoran, was declaring war! He would make Fallen Valley regret ever provoking him, and even more, he would make them regret ever laying a hand on his people.
Shen Haoran stared deeply at the Fifth Elder’s retreating figure for a moment before turning and walking toward the Shen Clan Members.
The surviving members of the Shen Family watched Shen Haoran, their faces overcome with emotion. They had all thought they were going to die today. But then Shen Haoran had appeared, slaughtering their enemies with thunderous efficiency. He had even crippled a Spirit Emperor Level Elder, destroying his Spiritual Power before kicking him straight down the mountain. This was a son of their Shen Family, their Young Clan Leader, Shen Haoran.
"Young Clan Leader, you’re finally back!" a few elderly women cried out as they saw Shen Haoran approach, rushing to meet him. Their aged eyes instantly reddened, and tears streamed down their cheeks.
"I’m sorry, Grannies. I was too late," Shen Haoran said, his voice choking as he looked at the grief-stricken women. ’The Shen Family suffered this catastrophe because of me,’ he thought. ’I’m the one who dragged them into this!’
"All that matters is that you’re back. You’re back!" The elderly women clutched Shen Haoran’s hands, nodding emphatically. In their hearts, as long as Shen Haoran was here, the Shen Family would endure. As long as he was alive, the Shen Family would absolutely rise once more.
"Young Clan Leader, how is the Clan Leader?" one of the women asked anxiously. If Old Sir Shen hadn’t led them to hold off the Martial Artists from Fallen Valley, they likely wouldn’t have survived long enough for Shen Haoran to return.
At her words, Shen Haoran looked down at his grandfather, who was leaning against a tree, and his brow furrowed. Old Sir Shen’s injuries were far too severe. He had only managed to temporarily stabilize them with some Healing Elixirs. To ensure a full recovery and help him regain consciousness, he would need to find a specific cure.
The sight of Old Sir Shen’s ashen face caused a wave of killing intent to rise in Shen Haoran’s heart. ’If I wasn’t afraid of hurting the other Shen Clan Members,’ he thought, ’I would have already erupted in fury.’
Shen Haoran took a deep breath, forcing down his killing intent. He then turned to the Shen Clan Members and said, "Grannies, brothers and sisters, let’s find a place to tend to our wounds first. Once we’ve recovered, we will have our revenge. Our fallen clan members will not have died in vain. I swear I will take the heads of those from Fallen Valley as an offering to their spirits!"
Hearing Shen Haoran’s words, the Shen Clan Members all nodded grimly. Now was not the time for sorrow. The Shen Family’s blood debt could only be repaid in blood. Following Shen Haoran’s lead, the group found a nearby cave.
Once inside the cave, Shen Haoran distributed all the Healing Elixirs he had on him to the Shen Clan Members. Afterward, he used the Chaotic Spiritual Power from his body to nourish Old Sir Shen’s frail form, which had been on the verge of shattering. After several passes, he finally managed to fully stabilize his grandfather’s internal injuries.
HUFF... Looking at Old Sir Shen, whose complexion had much improved, and at the other recuperating Shen Clan Members, Shen Haoran finally let out a long sigh of relief. Thanks to the nourishment from his Healing Elixirs, none of their lives were in danger. All they needed was some rest to make a full recovery.
After one last, deep look at the recuperating Shen Clan Members, Shen Haoran quietly slipped out of the cave. Outside, the faint scent of scorched earth lingered in the air. The Shen Family’s back mountain was now a scene of utter ruin. The great fire set by the Martial Artists from Fallen Valley had incinerated half the mountainside. Though Elder Yan had already put out the blaze, it had left an indelible scar upon the land.
Shen Haoran walked forward slowly, gathering the bodies of the fallen Shen Clan Members who lay outside the cave. His heart twisted in anguish as he gazed upon their familiar faces.
WHOOSH... A jet-black flame, the Fire Spirit Black Obsidian, surged forth, enveloping the bodies of the Shen Clan Members.
As he watched the flickering black flames, Shen Haoran’s knees buckled, and he fell to the ground. A man of unyielding pride kneels only to the heavens, the earth, and his parents. But these people were his kin. They had died because of him. Kneeling to them was only right.
The dark firelight cast an eerie glow on Shen Haoran’s pale face. As he watched the bodies of his kin turn swiftly to ash, he lowered his head and bowed deeply.
"Rest easy," Shen Haoran vowed in a low voice. "I, Shen Haoran, swear this oath: I will make Fallen Valley pay for this in blood. This is a debt I will personally collect!" He then produced an exquisite Jade Bottle from his Storage Ring and carefully collected the ashes of the Shen Clan Members. He would preserve them, and one day, he would carry them to Fallen Valley so they could personally witness its destruction and their spirits could finally be at peace.
After stowing away the ashes of his clan, Shen Haoran looked toward a spot in the woods and called out softly, "Come on out."
RUSTLE... RUSTLE...
No sooner had the words left his mouth than a rustling sound came from the woods in front of him. A pair of exquisite legs stepped out from the undergrowth, followed by a perfect figure. She had a face that could topple kingdoms, so beautiful it seemed to breathe life back into the scorched forest. The visitor was none other than Snake Emperor Xue Ling.
Ordinarily, Shen Haoran wouldn’t have been able to tear his eyes away, but he was in no mood for it now. After a single, indifferent glance at Xue Ling, he flicked his wrist. A smooth, round Elixir appeared in his palm, and he tossed it to her.
"Here’s the Transformation Pill you wanted. Don’t follow me anymore," Shen Haoran said in a low voice, then turned to leave.
Catching the Transformation Pill, which still carried the warmth of Shen Haoran’s hand, Xue Ling froze for a second. Then her brow furrowed, and she called out to him in a cold voice, "Stop! Do you think you can just send me away with a single Transformation Pill? What I want is your life!"
Hearing her words, Shen Haoran stopped. He slowly turned around, his dark eyes holding an unreadable light. He stared deeply at Xue Ling, his voice turning hoarse. "After I’ve avenged the Shen Family, I’ll come find you myself. If you try to kill me before then, I won’t mind killing you, too."
His words were utterly devoid of emotion. Without another look at Xue Ling, Shen Haoran turned and disappeared back into the cave.
’Kill... me too...’ Watching Shen Haoran disappear, a sudden pain lanced through Xue Ling’s heart, as if she had lost something incredibly precious. A single, pearl-like tear traced a path down her flawless cheek before vanishing into the air...
