The tear tracks on her face gradually faded, but Xue Ling felt nothing. She didn’t even realize she had been crying. She just stood there in a daze, looking not at all like the formidable Snake Emperor, but more like a helpless child.
WHOOSH...
A moment later, the space beside Xue Ling distorted, and Elder Yan’s figure slowly materialized. He glanced at Xue Ling, then let out a long sigh and said, "Little girl, it’s best if you don’t provoke him for now. His current state of mind... it’s not something we can possibly comprehend."
"Is it because of those people he cremated?" Xue Ling murmured.
"Those were his clan members. If your own family were killed, how would you feel? Sigh, human emotions... you still don’t understand them," Elder Yan said with a soft sigh.
’Human emotions...’ Xue Ling touched her chest, over her heart. The moment she thought of Shen Haoran’s pitch-black eyes and his desolate figure, her heart would ache uncontrollably. ’Why is this happening? Is this... what human emotions are like?’
’No, that’s impossible. I’m the one who’s supposed to kill him. How could I possibly develop feelings for him?’ Xue Ling shook her head forcefully, suppressing the nameless emotion welling up inside her. Her aura turned cold and sharp once more, and now she truly resembled the ruthless Snake Emperor. But if one looked closely into her eyes, they would find they were still filled with sorrow.
"Old man, go tell him that I’ll be coming for his life, sooner or later!" Xue Ling said coldly to Elder Yan. She then took one last deep look at the cave in front of her before her figure flashed and vanished on the spot.
"Sigh..." Watching Xue Ling’s disappearing figure, Elder Yan shook his head and sighed softly, then flew into the cave.
"Elder Yan, is she gone?" Shen Haoran asked quietly, sensing his return.
"Yes, she’s gone. Are you satisfied now?" Elder Yan said irritably. He was still confused. Why did Shen Haoran drive Xue Ling away?
In response to the confusion in Elder Yan’s tone, Shen Haoran could only give a wry smile. His profound gaze pierced through the cave, staring toward the spot where Xue Ling had vanished.
Fallen Valley had killed so many members of the Shen Family; Shen Haoran’s feud with them was now to the death. But Shen Haoran also knew that for Fallen Valley to stand firm in the Northern Domain for thousands of years, and even be known as one of its Four Great Overlords, meant they were anything but simple. This was a matter between him and Fallen Valley, and Shen Haoran didn’t want to drag Xue Ling into it. He didn’t want anyone else close to him to get hurt.
"What are your plans now?" Elder Yao, unaware of Shen Haoran’s thoughts, asked.
At his words, Shen Haoran turned to look at the battered Shen Clan Members. He pondered for a moment before speaking, "The war between me and Fallen Valley has already begun. Now that they know I and the rest of the Shen Family are still alive, they will definitely not let us go. So, the first priority is to move our clan members to a safe place."
With this in mind, Shen Haoran’s thoughts stirred, and with a mental command, he summoned Changmao.
"Boss, what are your orders?" Changmao was bound to Shen Haoran by a contract and had witnessed the events of the past few days. He was in no mood to joke around.
"Go to the Five Elements Sect and bring Zi Mo and Shui Ruolan here. Tell them I want to see them within five days. If I don’t, they don’t need to bother calling me ’Boss’ anymore!" Shen Haoran instructed Changmao. Right now, sending the Shen Clan Members to the Five Elements Sect was the safest option. Although the Sect had undergone a major upheaval, it was still a first-rate sect in the Southern Domain. No matter how powerful Fallen Valley was, their reach shouldn’t extend all the way to the Southern Domain.
Hearing this, Changmao nodded. His figure flashed, and transforming into a streak of light, he shot out of the cave and sped toward the Five Elements Sect.
After Changmao left, Shen Haoran walked over to the Shen Clan Members and told them about the plan to relocate. Hearing his words, they all fell silent. This was the place they had lived for over a decade. The thought of leaving was, for a moment, hard to accept.
Shen Haoran didn’t say anything more. Moving the Shen Clan Members to the Five Elements Sect was simply the safer option. If they were truly unwilling to move, he would find another way to ensure their safety.
"Young Clan Leader, we’ll listen to you!" After a long moment, an elder was the first to speak up. The other clan members nodded in agreement. They all understood the current situation. The people from Fallen Valley would never let them go easily. If they remained in Cyan Mountain City, they would just be waiting to die. This time, only one Spirit Emperor Powerhouse had come, and Shen Haoran could handle it. But what if two came next time, or even more? The Shen Family would truly be finished then, and they would become the ones responsible for their family’s downfall.
Seeing that none of the Shen Clan Members objected, Shen Haoran nodded. He then began nurturing Old Sir Shen’s body once more. For the next few days, Shen Haoran planned to wait there for Shui Ruolan and the others to arrive.
「Two days later.」
Under Shen Haoran’s meticulous care, Old Sir Shen finally regained consciousness. However, the meridians in his body had been shattered inch by inch, and he couldn’t move a muscle.
"Grandfather!" Seeing Old Sir Shen awaken, Shen Haoran’s face lit up with joy. But when he discovered that his grandfather couldn’t move his arms or legs, and couldn’t even feel them, his expression darkened once more.
"Silly child, your grandfather is already lucky to have survived. I can’t ask for anything more," Old Sir Shen said comfortingly, seeing the self-reproach on Shen Haoran’s face.
Hearing this, Shen Haoran took a deep breath. He then took the ashes of the Shen Clan Members from his Storage Ring and handed them to Old Sir Shen. "Grandfather," he said, "I took the liberty of cremating the bodies of our Shen family’s sons. I will carry their ashes with me, so they can witness Fallen Valley’s destruction at the hands of our Shen Family with their own eyes!"
Old Sir Shen gazed at the urn in Shen Haoran’s hands, a vicious glint flashing in his eyes. He said in a low, heavy voice, "Good. A blood debt owed to our Shen Family can only be repaid in blood!"
Shen Haoran nodded heavily in agreement. He then told Old Sir Shen about the plan to move the Shen Clan Members to the Five Elements Sect. Old Sir Shen had no objections. Not only was he now completely powerless, but his limbs were also paralyzed. A matter of this magnitude was best left for Shen Haoran to handle.
"Grandfather, don’t worry. After I’ve dealt with Fallen Valley, I will definitely find a way to help you stand again!" Shen Haoran declared in a low, serious voice, looking at Old Sir Shen’s wry smile.
"Haha, just knowing you have such filial piety is enough for me. Grandfather believes in you!" Old Sir Shen looked at Shen Haoran and smiled with gratification. Then, as if recalling something, he added, "Several of your clan brothers were rescued by the Liu Family. If you’re going to the Five Elements Sect, you should go bring them back first."
Hearing this, Shen Haoran nodded. He then asked Elder Yan to stay behind while he himself headed down the mountain...
