A thick mist drifted through the dense jungle, weaving between the mountain trees. The air, filled with the constant hum of insects and the calls of birds, carried the faint scent of flowers. It was like a paradise hidden from the world.

GURGLE… The sound of flowing water echoed through the mountain forest, where a small, winding river snaked its way into the depths of the trees. A few Spirit Beasts lazed by the bank, drinking the cool water with expressions of pure contentment.

Suddenly, a dark figure emerged from the water. Its abrupt appearance startled the Spirit Beasts, sending them scattering in all directions. Then, a pale-faced youth covered in wounds floated to the surface, drifting with the current deeper into the forest.

...

Deep in the mountain forest, a group of people advanced slowly. Several burly men led the way, tensely scanning their surroundings. Behind them, a horse-drawn carriage was heavily guarded by several others. These people looked much like the Human Race, with the only difference being the furry ears atop their heads.

"Young Miss, we've been traveling for a full day. It's time we stopped to rest for a while!" An exceptionally handsome young man approached the carriage and said softly.

"Very well, let's stop and rest for a bit." A moment later, a voice as heavenly as music sounded from within the carriage, causing the surrounding birdsong to pale in comparison. For a moment, the birds fell silent.

"Halt and rest! Squads One and Two, on alert! Squads Three and Four, rest! Da Mao and Er Mao, go fetch some water for everyone to drink!" Hearing the voice from the carriage, the handsome young man immediately bellowed to the group ahead.

At his words, the group at the front quickly dispersed, each taking their posts. Two young lads grabbed waterskins and ran off to fetch water for the others.

As they sat down to rest, their gazes drifted toward the carriage from time to time. A trace of reverence, and of course a hint of adoration, flashed in their eyes. It was clear the person inside the carriage held an extraordinary place in their hearts.

A moment later, the carriage curtain was drawn open. At the sight, everyone once again stopped what they were doing, staring at the carriage with looks of eager anticipation.

Then, a pair of hands as smooth and pale as white jade emerged from the carriage, followed by a graceful figure slowly coming into view. As she appeared, the entire forest seemed to fall silent, captivated by her beauty.

The woman standing on the carriage was dressed in white robes that outshone the snow, her bearing so graceful she seemed otherworldly. Her face was like a hibiscus flower, her eyebrows like weeping willows. Her eyes, brighter than peach blossoms, were utterly captivating. With skin as white as snow, crimson lips curved in a slight smile, a slender figure, and an ethereal aura, she looked as if she had stepped right out of a painting. A truly kingdom-toppling beauty!

Gazing at her, the eyes of every Martial Artist present filled with fervor. This was the goddess of their hearts, the one they had always sworn to protect!

"Young Miss, why have you come out? It's chilly out here, be careful not to catch a cold!" Seeing the woman emerge, the handsome man from before immediately went to greet her, he said with a soft chuckle.

"It's nothing. I've been sitting inside for too long and wanted to stretch my legs and see how everyone is doing," the beautiful woman known as the Young Miss said softly. Her gaze swept over the surrounding forest before she asked, "Commander Bai Shuo, how much longer until we return to the Bai Family?"

"You're too formal, Young Miss. Just call me Bai Shuo," he said, cupping his fist in respect. "At this pace, we should arrive back at the Bai Family in about ten days. There is no need to worry." As he spoke, his gaze occasionally swept over her form, a hint of adoration in his eyes.

"Still ten days?" Hearing Bai Shuo's words, the Young Miss's delicate brows knitted in what seemed to be anxiety. However, when she saw the exhaustion on the faces of the Martial Artists around her, she could only suppress her impatience. 'They've been pushing themselves to the limit for days now,' she thought. 'Ten days is probably the best they can do.'

"Very well," the Young Miss said with a long sigh. "Once everyone has rested, we'll get back on the road."

Bai Shuo nodded. But just as he was about to say something more to the Young Miss, two panicked shouts echoed from the forest, instantly putting everyone on edge.

"All units, on alert! Protect the Young Miss!" Bai Shuo roared upon hearing the shouts. Grabbing his weapon, he strode toward the front. The surrounding Martial Artists immediately dropped their rations and readied themselves.

A moment later, Da Mao and Er Mao, the two who had gone for water, came running out of the forest, their faces pale with panic.

"Com... Commander Bai Shuo," Da Mao panted, looking at the vigilant commander. "There's... a situation!"

"There's... someone," Er Mao said, taking a deep breath to steady himself. "We found a person in the river up ahead!" He then quickly recounted what they had seen.

"A member of the Human Race! Let's go take a look!" Hearing Da Mao and Er Mao's report, Bai Shuo's brow furrowed. After a moment's thought, he led a small team toward the river. The Young Miss, looking puzzled, followed them.

The group skirted a few thickets and soon arrived at the riverbank. There, a youth covered in wounds lay motionless. His body was purple from the cold water, and if not for the faint rise and fall of his chest, they would have assumed he was dead.

"Commander Bai Shuo... what should we do?" Da Mao asked in a low voice, looking at the youth who seemed on the verge of death.

Hearing this, Bai Shuo's brow tightened. "Kill him," he said coldly. "Not a single one from the Human Race is any good. Keeping him alive would be a disaster waiting to happen!"

"Yes, sir!" Da Mao replied. Their Demon Race had never held any fondness for the Human Race, so killing one of them didn't weigh on his conscience. 'Besides,' he thought, 'judging by his state, he probably won't live more than a few days anyway. Killing him would just be putting him out of his misery!'

Da Mao raised his sword and stepped forward, aiming the sharp tip directly at the youth's chest. But just as he was about to strike, he was stopped by the Young Miss, who had just arrived.

"Stop!" the beautiful woman shouted. She rushed over and carefully examined the human youth's body. Upon discovering he was still breathing, she turned to face Bai Shuo. "He's not dead yet! He can still be saved!" she said coldly. "He is a living being. How can you just kill him so casually?"

Seeing that the Young Miss intended to protect the human youth, Bai Shuo was taken aback. "Young Miss," he said in a low, serious voice, "the Human Race has always been treacherous and cunning. We can't trust them. Who's to say this isn't just an act to get close to you? For your safety, he must die!"

"No! He is gravely injured. Regardless of whether he poses a threat to me, I cannot simply stand by and watch a life fade away. I must save him," the Young Miss declared forcefully, stepping in front of the human youth. Her stunning face was a mask of sheer determination. "If you want to kill him, you'll have to kill me first!"
