Chaos Heaven-Dominating Technique
Chapter 558 553: The Young Miss's IntuitionTwo days later, Bai Shuo and the others finally neared the edge of the forest. Upon walking out of the gloomy woods, everyone heaved a collective sigh of relief. They had to remain on high alert every day in the forest, and it was utterly exhausting.
"We'll stop and rest for a moment. Then, we'll head straight back to the Bai Family in one push!" As their tension finally eased, a wave of fatigue washed over the group. Bai Shuo gave the order.
Hearing this, everyone nodded and plopped down on the ground. They began to chat and laugh, looking completely at ease. Bai Shuo, meanwhile, walked slowly toward the carriage.
Inside the carriage, Shen Haoran had already awoken. He sat cross-legged on a cushion, his body shrouded in a faint, gray mist. After two days of effort, Shen Haoran had finally cleared the most crucial meridians in his body. Wisps of warm Spiritual Power began to circulate within him, nourishing his ravaged frame.
Nearby, the Young Miss had also awoken. Cupping her cheek with one hand, her beautiful eyes were fixed on Shen Haoran. She stared without blinking, seeming completely absorbed.
A moment later, the gray mist around Shen Haoran dissipated, and his tightly closed eyes slowly opened. A sharp glint flashed through his jet-black pupils. He then took a deep breath, exhaling slowly, and clenched his fists. The broken bones in his body had healed under the restorative effects of the Power of Chaos. He finally had a sense of security again.
"You're finally awake?" the Young Miss asked, her face lighting up with joy when she saw him open his eyes.
"Yes. Thank you for saving my life. I'm sorry to have been a bother these past few days," Shen Haoran said with a small smile, looking at the stunningly beautiful Young Miss as he cupped his fist in respect.
"Didn't you save my life that day, too? I'd say we're even," the Young Miss replied, gesturing to the wound on her shoulder as her lovely eyes met his.
"You must be joking, Young Miss. How could someone like me, with absolutely no Spiritual Power, possibly save you? Besides, I don't even know what happened," Shen Haoran said with a shrug, feigning ignorance.
"It really wasn't you?" The Young Miss's delicate brows knitted together as she saw his 'I-know-nothing' expression, and she pressed him for an answer.
"It really wasn't me," Shen Haoran explained with another shrug. "Do you think a badly injured boy like me could have saved you from the Gale Demon Wolf you mentioned?"
At his words, the Young Miss sized him up carefully. It was true that Shen Haoran's aura was still weak, and she couldn't sense the slightest fluctuation of Spiritual Power from him. He seemed like an ordinary person, posing no threat whatsoever. But when she met his brilliant eyes, she couldn't shake the feeling that something was off.
Shen Haoran met her gaze with a calm smile, his expression flawless. He still didn't know the origins or identities of this group. 'Even though this Young Miss saved my life, I still need to be cautious.'
After studying Shen Haoran for a while longer, the Young Miss found nothing amiss. For now, she could only shake her head in doubt. Still, she had a persistent feeling that the human boy before her was anything but simple. It was her intuition.
The Young Miss exchanged a few more pleasantries with Shen Haoran before stepping out of the carriage. She hadn't eaten in two days, and her stomach was starting to growl. After she left, Shen Haoran heaved a sigh of relief and smiled wryly. 'This woman's intuition is scarily accurate,' he thought. 'If my acting skills weren't so good, she would have exposed me.'
'My injuries are still a huge problem,' Shen Haoran thought. 'There's only a tiny amount of Spiritual Power nourishing my body. Until I recover, I probably can't use my power at all. Right now, I really am no different from an ordinary person.'
Shen Haoran glanced at the Pill Recipe from Elder Yan stored in his Sea of Consciousness and rubbed his forehead. 'Elder Yan's recipe is definitely the right cure for my condition, but I won't be able to get my hands on several of the Spirit Medicines on it anytime soon. Healing these injuries is going to be a real headache.'
'Ah, well, I'll cross that bridge when I come to it,' Shen Haoran thought after a long moment. He shook his head, pushing the distracting thoughts aside, and resumed nourishing his body.
Outside the carriage, Bai Shuo hurried over the moment he saw the Young Miss emerge. "Young Miss, are you all right?" he asked, his face full of concern.
"I'm fine. Go prepare food for two. The human boy is awake, and we're both a bit hungry," the Young Miss said with a light laugh. She was a Martial Artist, after all. Once the wolf poison had been purged, all that remained were superficial wounds. In two days, she had already mostly recovered.
"That boy is awake?" Bai Shuo's brow furrowed when he heard the news. "Young Miss, since he's awake, I think we should get rid of him. Keeping him with the group will only lead to trouble. If it weren't for him, you wouldn't have been injured!" he said grimly.
"You can't say that, Commander Bai Shuo. If that human boy hadn't saved me, I'm afraid I'd be a corpse by now," the Young Miss said in a low voice, glancing back at the carriage.
Hearing this, Bai Shuo snorted in disdain. "You can't be serious, Young Miss. Him? A boy on the verge of death? How could he have saved you?"
"I have a strong feeling that the expert from that day is somehow connected to this human boy," the Young Miss said with conviction.
"That's enough. You don't need to worry about this. Just go prepare the food," the Young Miss said, cutting Bai Shuo off before he could say anything more.
Looking at the Young Miss, Bai Shuo could only turn away in a huff and go prepare the food.
Watching Bai Shuo's retreating back, the Young Miss shook her head helplessly. She knew Bai Shuo was prejudiced against the Human Race, but not all humans were treacherous schemers. The boy in the carriage certainly wasn't; she could see it in his eyes, and her intuition confirmed it. She just didn't know how to explain this to Bai Shuo. It would have to take time.
With a long sigh, the Young Miss went to join the others in their tasks. The sky was gradually darkening; they would have to spend the night here. They would likely be back at the Bai Family home tomorrow. At the thought of the Bai Family, the Young Miss's brow furrowed once more.
…
As dusk settled, several campfires were lit around the carriage. Large pots were propped up over the flames, and the fragrant aroma of cooking food drifted out, rousing Shen Haoran from his state of Cultivation. He rubbed his rumbling stomach and stepped down from the carriage.
When Shen Haoran stepped down from the carriage, the surrounding Martial Artists all turned to look at him, their eyes holding a hint of wariness. Shen Haoran paid it no mind. From their appearances, he knew they belonged to the Demon Race. The Demon Race and the Human Race were different species, after all; it would be strange if they weren't on their guard.
Shen Haoran's gaze swept over the camp. He quickly spotted the Young Miss and began walking toward her…
