Shen Haoran’s fury was for good reason. When his Spiritual Thought entered Lady Ya’s body, he witnessed a truly horrifying scene. Inside her, meridians large and small were twisted together, most of them ruptured. Her internal organs were also displaced. If not for the white mist enveloping her meridians and organs, Lady Ya would have died long ago.
The white mist felt somewhat familiar to Shen Haoran, and he realized it must be the power of the Nine-tailed White Fox Bloodline. But even with the protection of her bloodline, a faint layer of black mist surrounded the white. From this black mist, Shen Haoran sensed an utterly vile aura. What shocked him even more was that this black mist was slowly eroding the power of the Nine-tailed White Fox Bloodline. Once the bloodline’s power within Lady Ya was gone, not even ten lives would be enough to save her.
Shen Haoran’s expression darkened. Seeing the state of her injuries, he couldn’t bear to imagine what Lady Ya had been through, but he knew it must have been agonizing. The thought sent a sharp, inexplicable pang through his heart. ’No matter what happened,’ he vowed, ’I will make the ones who hurt her repay it a hundred times over!’
"Elder Yan, please, see if Lady Ya can still be saved!" Shen Haoran pleaded internally. Her current injuries were so severe that even as a Seventh Grade Alchemist, he was helpless. The slightest misstep, and her life would be extinguished.
Hearing Shen Haoran’s call, Elder Yan answered. His powerful Spiritual Thought slowly entered Lady Ya’s body. When he saw the devastating state within, his brow furrowed deeply. In his tens of thousands of years of existence, Elder Yan had never encountered a case so daunting.
A moment later, Elder Yan’s Spiritual Thought withdrew from Lady Ya’s body. Shen Haoran immediately asked, "Elder Yan, how is it? Can she be saved?" His eyes were filled with anticipation. When it came to such matters, Elder Yan’s experience far surpassed his own, and he was sure the elder would have a solution.
But this time, Shen Haoran’s hopes were dashed. Elder Yan slowly shook his head and sighed softly. "Alas, I’ve never seen injuries this severe. If her bloodline power wasn’t protecting the last shred of her vitality, and if her consciousness hadn’t clung on out of some deep-seated will, she would have died long ago."
"Elder Yan, you mean even you can’t do anything?" Shen Haoran asked, his voice heavy and his brow furrowed.
"If it were only a matter of severe injuries, there might still be a chance. Her will to live is exceptionally strong; otherwise, that sliver of consciousness would have already vanished," Elder Yan explained gravely. "But her problem is far more complex than just injuries. You noticed that black mist enveloping her bloodline power, didn’t you? That is Bloodthirsty Godslaying Powder, a potent poison extracted from a Tier Eight Spirit Beast. It’s particularly effective against Martial Artists who possess bloodline powers, as it devours the power from within. What’s worse, this poison is highly resistant to Elixirs. Almost no Elixir can purge it... unless it’s an Eighth Grade Elixir, or perhaps even one of the Ninth Grade."
"An Eighth Grade Elixir... or even a Ninth Grade Elixir!" Shen Haoran gasped. ’A Seventh Grade Elixir is already known as a Spirit Pill,’ he thought, ’because the Spiritual Qi from the alchemist’s Spiritual Thought imbues it with Spiritual Wisdom during refinement. An Eighth Grade Elixir is even more miraculous, called an Eighth Grade Divine Pill. And a Ninth Grade Elixir... that’s the stuff of legends, a Holy Pill!’ He couldn’t even begin to fathom its effects. Elixirs of the Seventh Grade and above were said to be powerful enough to heal the living dead, yet even they were powerless against this poison.
"Isn’t there any other way?" Shen Haoran pressed, his voice low. ’I absolutely will not let Lady Ya die. No matter what it takes, I will save her.’
"There is one other way to save her," Elder Yan said after a moment of contemplation, his gaze fixed on Shen Haoran. "But the key lies with you."
"With me?" Shen Haoran echoed, stunned and confused.
"The girl’s condition is indeed critical. Right now, only one thing can save her: the Wood Spirit Cyan Profound, one of the Heaven and Earth Spirits," Elder Yan explained. "The Wood Spirit itself represents the path of life. If you can obtain the Wood Spirit Cyan Profound, dealing with this Bloodthirsty Godslaying Powder will be as simple as lifting a finger. You’ll also be able to heal her internal injuries at the same time. It is the only way."
"The Wood Spirit Cyan Profound..." Hearing Elder Yan’s words, Shen Haoran clenched his fists. ’It seems I have to get my hands on it, no matter the cost.’
"I will find a way to prolong the girl’s life for a while, but you must obtain the Wood Spirit Cyan Profound as soon as possible," Elder Yan reminded him gravely. "If you wait until the Bloodthirsty Godslaying Powder has completely devoured her bloodline’s power, it will be too late, even with the Wood Spirit."
Shen Haoran nodded heavily at his words. The Pill Emperor competition was set to begin tomorrow. According to Feng Li, a winner would be decided within half a month, at which point the Wood Spirit Cyan Profound would have an owner. All Lady Ya had to do was hold on for half a month with Elder Yan’s help.
Then, with their combined efforts, Shen Haoran and Elder Yan finally managed to stabilize Lady Ya’s condition. For the time being, at least, the Bloodthirsty Godslaying Powder would be unable to devour her bloodline power.
After stabilizing Lady Ya’s condition, Shen Haoran distributed his Healing Elixirs to the other members of the Fox Race to help them recover from their own injuries.
Watching the members of the Fox Race begin to recover, Shen Haoran slowly walked over to Da Mao and asked in a deep voice, "Where is the Golden Rat Race’s lair?"
"Brother Haoran, are you...?" Hearing Shen Haoran’s question, Da Mao’s eyes lit up, seeming to understand what he planned to do.
"Hmph. Anyone who dares to touch my people will learn the meaning of despair," Shen Haoran said coldly.
"Alright! The Golden Rat Race’s lair is..." Da Mao’s eyes filled with excitement at Shen Haoran’s words, and he immediately relayed its location.
"Stay here and protect them. I’ll be right back," Shen Haoran said. Having gotten the location of the Golden Rat Race’s lair, he stood up and headed out.
"Don’t worry. I’ll make them repay the debt they owe you, and then some," Shen Haoran murmured, walking out of the cave and gazing at the sleeping form of Lady Ya. With that, his figure flashed, transforming into a streak of black light that vanished over the horizon...
