Chapter 110: Chapter 110

Anna’s POV

Around noon, Anna’s phone rang. She glanced at the caller ID and almost dropped it on the spot.

It was Alpha Dominic. Calling her directly. Her. They had literally never had a one-on-one conversation before in their lives.

Dominic asked to meet her, but she already had a lunch meeting with a client, and not just any client, but the kind everyone warned you about in advance. Total nightmare material. So she had no choice but to go. She told him where she would be.

"Got it," he said, then hung up.

Anna had no clue what "got it" was supposed to mean in Dominic’s voice, and honestly, she didn’t have time to sit there decoding it. The client’s car was already outside waiting.

She had meant to text Lena about it first, but before she could even type a word, the meeting started.

And wow, the rumors were not exaggerating. The client was insanely difficult. Anna weighed every sentence before saying it, careful as hell, trying to keep things from going off the rails, but the whole thing was moving at a snail’s pace. Then suddenly, a dark figure appeared at the door.

Anna nearly lost it. Her jaw almost hit the table.

Dominic had actually come here to find her.

The moment the client saw him, he shot to his feet, his whole attitude doing a complete one-eighty. "Alpha Dominic!"

Dominic stepped inside, gave him a small nod, then turned to Anna. "Done?"

"Not yet." She was completely confused, but she wasn’t about to lie.

"You know Anna?" The client’s eyes darted between them, clearly trying to piece things together.

"I’m taking her to lunch," Dominic said.

That was it. No explanation. No extra words. Just a flat statement, like that alone was enough.

And apparently, it was.

The client who had been cold and impossible a second ago suddenly turned weirdly enthusiastic. "Anna, why didn’t you say you knew Alpha Dominic? Listen, come by my office this week and sign the contract. Or I can have someone deliver it to you."

A deal that had been dragging for weeks got locked in within ten seconds.

Just because Dominic had shown up.

Anna accepted the miracle on the spot. "I’ll come get the contract in a bit."

"Perfect, perfect. I won’t keep you two." The client practically bowed himself out of the room. Anna had never, ever gotten treatment like that before.

She finally let out a long breath.

Dominic sat across from her, his presence filling the room without even trying. He carried that unmistakable Alpha-wolf pressure, heavy and sharp, authority in every movement, every glance. A man like him didn’t just enter a room. He flipped the whole vibe the second he stepped in.

This was the first time Anna had ever sat alone across from him, just the two of them.

And yeah, the pressure was brutal.

His aura was so overwhelming it almost made it hard to breathe. For the first time, she truly got why Lena was always so conflicted around him.

My best friend was actually living with a man like this, teasing him, yelling at him, and somehow nobody stopped her?

Lena was way braver than Anna had ever given her credit for.

"Alpha Dominic, did you need something?" Anna asked, doing her best to keep her voice steady. She’d dealt with enough intimidating people in her career to fake calm when she had to.

"What do you want to eat?" he asked.

She still couldn’t read where this was going. "Anything is fine."

"Order first." He motioned for the server to come over and nodded for her to choose.

Anna picked two dishes at random, eager to skip the small talk and get to the point.

She wanted to text Lena for backup, seriously, but Dominic was sitting right beside her. There was no way she could pull that off.

"Lena’s been acting a little off lately." The second he said Lena’s name, some of the tension around him eased, just enough for Anna to breathe again.

Okay. So this was an intel mission. He was here to dig for information about Lena.

"She’s talked to you," he said. "What did she say?"

"Just normal girl stuff. Nothing important." Anna wasn’t about to sell Lena out. Lena trusted her, told her what was on her mind, because she was her best friend.

Handing her over to her contract mate like that? Yeah, that would be a total betrayal.

Dominic studied her in silence. His sharp eyes felt like they could slice straight through every fake expression she put on.

"I intend to keep this relationship for the long haul." His voice was calm, clipped, exact. "As her friend, you want us to get along, don’t you?"

Anna bit her lip. Annoyingly, he wasn’t wrong. She wanted Lena to be happy.

"Alpha Dominic, if you want your relationship to be stronger, then pay more attention to her. Make her feel safe. Once she feels secure, she’ll open up to you on her own."

He narrowed his eyes. "So she did tell you something."

Anna pressed her lips together. He clearly wasn’t going to let this go. If he wanted an answer, he looked fully prepared to wait her out forever.

The food arrived. He didn’t touch a single bite. He just sat there, quiet, waiting.

"Alpha Dominic." Anna let out a long breath. "I really don’t want to get in the middle of whatever’s going on between you two."

"I didn’t ask you to."

She poured herself a cup of black tea and took a small sip, stealing three precious seconds to think. "Honestly? Everything she said is stuff you already know. She thinks you don’t love her. She thinks the two of you are going to break up in the end."

Lena had said all of that to his face before. Anna wasn’t exposing some huge secret here.

Dominic’s brows pulled together. "Nothing else?"

"What else would there be?" She set the teacup down gently. "Alpha Dominic, since we’re already talking... can I ask you something? As Lena’s friend. What exactly do you feel for her?"

He froze for a second, clearly caught off guard. Then, after a stretch of silence, he rose from his seat. "Take your time with lunch."

Anna watched Dominic walk away, then immediately fumbled for her phone and called Lena without wasting another second.

Lena’s POV

Anna told her everything.

"He really does care about you," Anna said. "I could feel it."

"Who even knows what he cares about." The mood in the office had been heavy for days now, like storm clouds pressing against the windows. The split between the company’s founder and his Luna was basically public knowledge at this point.

In the break room, people were whispering in low voices.

"Luna actually let her best friend have puppies for her mate. I still can’t wrap my head around that."

"The original deal was that the pups would be raised by Luna and the Alpha together. They even signed an agreement, but the vice president broke it. Now she’s fighting for custody."

"Of course she is. If Luna has no heir, and another she-wolf gives birth to the Alpha’s pups, that she-wolf could take Luna’s place. Only an idiot would give that up."

"This is seriously insane."

"You think stuff like this only happens in fantasy stories? Real life is way messier."

"Thank God I don’t have a so-called best friend who’d pull something like that on me."

Lena caught the sound of movement outside the door and lifted her eyes. "Someone’s coming."

Everyone scattered right away. In no time, the room had emptied out, leaving just one person behind.

It was Harper from PR.

She had that bombshell kind of figure and a face people remembered. She used to be a magazine model, but she’d quit after getting fed up with all the gross, shady expectations that came with that industry.

She leaned against the counter and looked at Lena. "Your mate is the Alpha of the Bloodmoon Pack, right? He’s scary, but crazy powerful too." She tilted her head. "Have you ever worried your best friend might steal him?"

Lena looked back at her, expression flat.

They were coworkers, that was it. They weren’t close enough for Harper to be asking something that personal.

So Lena said nothing. She just picked up her cup and walked out.

The second she got back to her desk, her phone buzzed several times. An unknown number had sent photos.

Dominic and Anna.

The shots had obviously been taken on purpose from a very specific angle. The framing made them look way more intimate than they really were. They were sitting close, the lighting was soft, everything about it screamed setup. It was basically begging her to misunderstand.

Someone had been watching them for a while.

And someone had seriously gone all in on this little stunt.

Lena smiled and sent back a reply: "Nice photography skills."

Then she put down her phone and didn’t bother responding again. Maybe other people’s best friends would stab them in the back.

But not hers. Never Anna.

Those photos didn’t get to her at all. Not even a tiny ripple.

Later, when she had a spare moment, she saved the pictures and forwarded them to Anna.

Anna replied almost instantly: "Who even took these? But wow, I look amazing!"

Lena burst out laughing, then called her. "Care to explain?"

"Explain what? Hang on, let me zoom in and inspect these properly," Anna said while looking through the photos. "Oh my God, do you know how nervous I was sitting across from him? His vibe alone nearly made me pass out. I swear, the whole time I just wanted to run."
