Chapter 111: Chapter 111
Lena’s POV
After work, Lena walked out of the office with her coworkers. Right then, her phone buzzed.
Dominic: "Come here."
A car horn sounded.
She looked across the street. A black sedan was parked by the curb. His car.
She ignored it.
Dominic: "Want me to come get you?"
She bit her lip. Her coworkers were already getting ready to leave, and someone up ahead turned around and asked if she was heading to the subway with them.
"You guys go on," she said, lifting a hand to wave them off.
Once they were gone, she crossed the street.
Dominic had already gotten out of the car and was leaning against it. White shirt, black dress pants, everything sharp and neat, clean to the point of annoying. He looked at her, his gaze hotter than the late-afternoon sun.
"What do you want?" Her tone was ice-cold.
"Picked you up."
"I know how to get home by myself."
He walked around to the other side, pulled open the passenger door, and looked at her once. The message was obvious.
She was already standing there anyway. So she got in.
The whole ride was dead silent. She kept her eyes on the view outside the window. He didn’t try to make conversation either.
They weren’t going home. She didn’t bother asking where he was taking her. He wasn’t about to kidnap her, obviously.
The car finally stopped at the Voss family’s private restaurant, the same one they had dinner at a few months ago, the one with the stone terrace and the garden.
The owner greeted them like VIPs and led them to the room they usually used. Lena went straight out onto the terrace, rested her arms on the railing, and looked down at the carefully arranged garden below. The old oak tree glowed under the last wash of sunset, like the whole place had been dipped in gold.
Dominic ordered the food, then walked over to her side.
"Dominic." Her voice came out soft, almost swallowed by the night. "Seriously, let’s end the agreement."
His hand shifted inside his pocket. Then he turned to look at her. Warm amber light spilled over Lena’s face, soft and hazy.
"Do you really want that?"
This time, he didn’t shut her down right away.
She nodded. "Yeah."
She didn’t bother repeating the reasons. She’d already said them before, more than once, and saying them again wouldn’t magically change anything.
"Alright."
Lena snapped her head toward him. After refusing for so long, he was actually agreeing now?
A rush of relief hit her first, fast and light. But right under that, for some reason, there was a faint drop in her chest too.
He used to be so firm. So impossible to move. And now he was agreeing.
She forced that weird feeling down. "So when are we signing the papers?"
"In a few days."
"Why not sooner?" She wasn’t trying to start drama. She just wanted it done, the sooner the better.
He glanced at her. "Can you not wait a few days?"
Her fingers tightened around the railing. "I just don’t want this dragging out."
"Dragging out?" He frowned.
"The sooner it’s over, the cleaner the breakup." Her eyes stayed fixed on the garden the whole time.
He drew in a sharp breath. "A few days."
"You said ’a few days’ before, and now you’re saying ’a few days’ again. So which is it exactly?"
"Does it matter?"
"Can you at least give me an exact date?"
"Depends on my mood."
Lena seriously wanted to punch him.
The restaurant owner personally brought the dishes in. Dominic walked over to the table, pulled out a chair, and sat down like he had all the time in the world. Then he looked at her and said, "Eat."
She was still standing on the terrace, stiff as a board, like her whole body had locked up.
"If you want this over faster," he said while calmly setting the plates down with that maddening, steady expression of his, "then I suggest you stop making trouble." He ladled out a bowl of soup and placed it by the seat next to him.
It was a threat, plain and simple, just dressed up in dinner and fancy tableware.
She was completely in his hands, and he knew it. That was the part that made her chest tighten. She was the one asking to end the agreement, so why was he the one controlling every step of it?
Lena clenched her jaw, went to wash her hands, then came back to the table. She tried to sit across from him. He tapped the place beside him, right next to the bowl of soup.
"For you."
She sat down, her fists balled tight under the table.
He peeled a shrimp and dropped it into her bowl.
"I don’t want it."
"Eat more."
There was no room to say no.
If she hadn’t been trying to keep him in a decent mood so he might actually keep his word, she would’ve flipped the whole table and walked out ages ago.
So she ate.
Every bite tasted like pure resentment.
Still, she ended up full.
After dinner, the owner personally walked them out to the car. To anyone watching, they probably looked like some sweet, affectionate couple. Only Lena knew that wasn’t true at all. Not even close.
Once they got in the car, she didn’t say a single word.
When they stopped at a red light, Dominic finally asked, "Your place or mine?"
He asked like it was a question, but it really wasn’t.
"Whatever." Lena couldn’t care less anymore. As long as he was willing to sign when the time came, that was enough.
The car headed straight for his place. Obviously.
After parking, Dominic got out and walked a few steps before stopping. He turned back and looked at her trailing behind, dragging her feet like she was being marched into custody.
"For this little distance, how long are you planning to take?"
"My legs aren’t cooperating." She just didn’t want to be here. Everything about his house made her skin crawl and her chest tighten.
He came back without another word, caught her by the wrist, and pulled her forward. His stride was steady, annoyingly calm, but his legs were so long that every one of his steps forced her to take two.
She struggled a couple of times, then gave up.
Fine. Hold my hand, then. It wasn’t like it would kill her.
The second they stepped inside, he went straight to the bedroom. Lena stayed in the living room, rooted to the spot. She had zero intention of sleeping there.
A moment later, he came back out dragging a huge suitcase.
Her brows lifted.
A business trip? With a suitcase that big, he had to be leaving for a while. Was he planning to come back and finally end the agreement?
He grabbed her wrist again, suitcase in his other hand, and headed for the door.
"What are you doing?" She was completely lost now.
He didn’t answer.
Her gaze locked onto the suitcase, and suddenly a completely ridiculous thought jumped into her head.
"Dominic, are you trying to elope with me?"
A flicker of amusement flashed through Dominic Voss’s eyes.
The second the words left her mouth, she knew how absurd they sounded. They were nowhere near that kind of thing. Not even close.
The car merged onto the highway.
Then the airport signs came into view.
So that was it. He wanted her to come to the airport and see him off. Wow, how touching. Lena honestly didn’t care. He could fly wherever he wanted for all she cared. By the time he came back, everything would already be in motion.
At the airport, she spotted Daniel waiting near the departure hall, two boarding passes in hand.
At first, she assumed both of them were for Dominic. A business trip with his beta tagging along? Totally normal.
Then Daniel passed the boarding passes to Dominic and took the suitcase from him instead.
"You and Luna should go wait in the lounge," Daniel said. "I’ll handle check-in and the bags."
"Thanks." Dominic took Lena’s hand and started leading her toward the VIP lounge.
And then it hit her all at once.
Two boarding passes. Luna.
These weren’t his tickets.
They were theirs.
"I have work tomorrow!" She grabbed his arm and snatched a look at the boarding pass. The destination was some coastal place on the far side of the continent, thousands of miles away from Bloodmoon Pack territory.
"We’re going that far?!"
Dominic slipped the boarding pass into his coat pocket like it was no big deal. "I called your office. Got your leave approved."
"You can’t just—" she stammered, almost choking on the words. "Why would they even approve something like that?"
How would her boss ever agree to Dominic calling on her behalf? But deep down, she already knew the answer. This was Dominic Voss. Pretty much nobody said no to Dominic Voss.
"Think of it as a honeymoon," he said evenly, like he was commenting on the weather. "Your company is a mess right now. You barely ever take time off. This is the perfect chance to get away."
She just stared at him.
Honeymoon.
They were on the verge of ending the agreement, and this man was talking about a honeymoon.
"I didn’t pack anything. No clothes, no documents, nothing." She scrambled for the most practical excuse she could come up with.
"I’m the one taking you," he said, calm and maddening as ever. "I already took care of all that."
