Chapter 42: Chapter 42

Lena’s POV

Dominic just stared at me, looking totally lost, like my words hadn’t even landed.

I sucked in a breath and forced myself to lay it all out. "Anna—my closest friend—she went back to her pack to visit her parents. But once she got there, they tried to force her to bond with some random Alpha she’s never even met. She tried to run, but they locked her in the house. Her mom even said she’d kill herself if Anna didn’t agree."

Dominic’s face stayed still, but something sharp flashed in his eyes. He was definitely listening now.

"I need Daniel to help her," I rushed on, my voice picking up speed. "She’s trapped, and someone has to get her out. Daniel’s her mate—if he shows up at her house, her parents won’t dare force her anymore."

Dominic’s brows drew together a little, like he was connecting pieces in his head.

"Anna’s situation is really dangerous," I added, my chest tight, "her parents literally locked her up just to push her into meeting that Alpha. If Daniel doesn’t step in—"

"Hold up," Dominic cut me off. "You’re telling me Anna went to meet another guy behind Daniel’s back?"

I nodded. "Yeah. But she didn’t want to bother him. That’s why she hid it. But things are out of hand now, and he deserves to know."

Dominic’s whole expression shifted—his jaw tightened, his brows knotted, and the air around him just got... heavier.

He didn’t ask anything else. He just pulled out his phone and started dialing without hesitation.

"I’ll tell Daniel," he said, his tone edged with urgency. "He needs to hear this right now."

"Come out," he said into the phone, his voice firmer than usual. "Now."

When he hung up, he looked at me again, something complicated flickering in his eyes. "Lena, do you understand what it means to a man when his mate is forced to meet someone else?"

I bit my lip. "I know it’s serious, but Anna really thought she could handle—"

"There’s nothing more serious than this," Dominic cut in again. "If anyone ever tried to send you to meet another man..."

He didn’t finish the sentence, but that dangerous gleam in his eyes said enough.

Thirty seconds later, Daniel walked in through the side door. His coat was buttoned perfectly, posture straight as ever, face unreadable—like he’d stepped out of a meeting.

Dominic stepped back with his arms crossed, looking like he was about to watch a scene unfold. "Alright. Tell him."

So I told Daniel everything—what happened to Anna, and what I needed him to do.

My words tumbled out so fast they were almost tripping over each other. I was terrified Daniel would say no. But the second I mentioned Anna being forced into a blind date, Daniel’s whole expression flipped.

He stood perfectly still, but I could feel the danger rolling off him. His eyes had grown deep and dark—like the sky right before a storm breaks.

Then out of nowhere, he swung his fist and smashed it straight into the glass table beside him. The table shattered instantly, glittering shards exploding across the floor. Blood seeped from his knuckles, but he didn’t even blink, like pain wasn’t something that applied to him.

"Why didn’t she tell me?" His voice came out low and rough, almost a growl. "Why the hell would she hide this from me and go meet another man?"

I jumped at his sudden outburst, heart skipping a beat as I instinctively took a step back. Even Dominic frowned, clearly not expecting Daniel to blow up like that.

"Daniel, hey, calm down," I blurted out, hands half raised. "Anna just... she wanted to handle it herself. She didn’t want to trouble anyone. Not even you."

"Trouble?" Daniel turned his head toward me sharply, eyes burning. "She gets forced into a damn matchmaking session, and they almost made her bond with another Alpha—and that’s considered ‘trouble’?"

His voice kept rising until it was practically a roar. "She’s mine! How can she let another man near her? How can she sit there and listen to that bastard talk?"

The air felt thick with anger—so heavy it was hard to breathe. That was the moment I understood just how deep Daniel’s feelings for Anna really ran. Way deeper than I’d realized.

"She wants to be independent," I said as evenly as I could, trying to ground him. "That’s who Anna is. She’s used to fixing things on her own. She doesn’t want to be a burden."

"A burden?" Daniel let out a harsh laugh. "She thinks she’s a burden to me?"

His fists tightened again, drops of blood hitting the floor. "I’m going to get her. Right now."

"Daniel, wait—" I reached out, but he was already striding toward the door.

That’s when Dominic finally spoke, his voice steady and firm, the kind that could cut through chaos. "Stop."

Daniel froze, though he didn’t turn around.

"Anger doesn’t solve anything," Dominic said. "You need a clear head and a plan. Charging in blindly will only make this worse."

Daniel inhaled deeply, once, twice, forcing himself to calm the storm inside. When he finally turned back, the rage was still there, but at least he had it leashed.

"Give me the address," he said to me, voice rough. "I’m bringing her home."

I let out a breath I didn’t realize I’d been holding. Anna would be safe. She had to be.

Just then, Dominic’s phone rang. His expression darkened immediately. I opened my mouth to ask, but he cut me off.

"I have to go. Don’t wait for me. Head back to the Alpha estate first."
