Chapter 6: Chapter 6

Lena’s POV

I got led into a room that was honestly pretty barebones, but compared to where I used to stay back in the Blueridge Pack, this might as well have been a presidential suite. There was a double bed with fresh white sheets, a tiny desk, a wardrobe, and—best of all—my own bathroom.

I glanced down at my clothes. His scent still clung to the fabric, mixed with the traces of what had just happened between us. That blend of heat, sweat, and hormones hit me again, and my face went hot on reflex. I seriously needed to wash everything off and cool my head.

I slid into the bathtub, letting the hot water swallow my body, rinsing away the evidence of everything that had just happened. But my mind refused to settle.

One thing was crystal clear: I wasn’t going to die.

There was always that rumor in the pack—no she-wolf ever walked out of Dominic’s room alive. They said he was a monster, that he lost himself the second lust took over, tearing apart any woman who got too close. But I had walked out. Alive. And the wildest part? His monster form hadn’t scared me... it had practically lit my nerves on fire.

I didn’t want to think too hard about why that was or what that said about me. All I needed to know was simple—I could survive this.

If I could handle his touch, if I could make his body respond, then I had a real shot at completing this deal. I’d find a way to sleep with Dominic. I needed to get pregnant as soon as possible.

Then I’d get the money—leave this place—and finally live the life I wanted.

The plan was straightforward. Practical. I didn’t need love or fairy-tale romance. I needed survival and freedom.

When the water turned lukewarm, I forced myself out of the tub and changed into the pajamas they’d left for me. Tomorrow, everything would really begin.

The next morning, the second I stepped into the pack’s main hall, every pair of eyes locked onto me.

Shock. Curiosity. That weird mix of fear people usually reserved for some rare dangerous creature. Servants whispered behind their hands, young wolves stared like I’d grown wings. Their hushed comments floated right to my ears:

"She actually made it through the night..."

"No way. Alpha must’ve held back or something..."

"But she looks totally fine..."

I straightened my back and walked toward the dining room, pretending I didn’t hear any of it.

"Lena!" a warm, familiar voice called out.

Luna Celeste Voss was walking toward me, her long silver hair catching the morning light, green eyes full of concern. Behind her strode Alpha Theodore Voss, all stern authority just like yesterday.

"Good morning, Luna Celeste. Alpha Theodore," I greeted, keeping my tone polite.

"Sweetheart, you’re looking much better today." Celeste gently wrapped her fingers around my hand. "Did you sleep well last night?"

"Yes, very well. Thank you for asking."

Theodore gave a satisfied nod. "Good. Seems the room we arranged suits you just fine."

Right then, Dominic stepped into the dining hall. He was in a black training outfit, hair still damp like he’d rushed out of the shower. The moment he spotted the three of us standing together, his expression darkened instantly.

"Morning, Dominic," Celeste said quickly, moving toward him. "Come have breakfast with Lena."

Dominic dropped into a chair, throwing me a cold, brief glance before going silent again. There was something in his eyes I couldn’t decode—part scrutiny, part expectation, like he was waiting for me to slip.

Celeste tugged me down beside her and kept piling food onto my plate. "Lena, you’re way too thin. Eat more. All of this is good for your health."

Her warmth made me freeze for half a second. It had been so long since anyone treated me this gently that the sudden care almost stung. The warmth in my chest spread slowly, like something I’d forgotten how to feel.

"Thank you, Luna Celeste."

Theodore’s voice softened. "Lena, is there anything about the room that needs fixing? If anything bothers you, just tell us."

I shook my head. "I’m really fine. Thank you for your kindness, Alpha Theodore."

Suddenly Dominic set his coffee down with a sharp clink. He leaned back, lips curling in a mocking smile as he looked straight at me. "Drop the act. I saw the fear in your eyes last night. You were shaking. Don’t pretend I didn’t notice, liar."

His words hit like a bucket of ice water, instantly killing the warmth around the table.

"Dominic!" Celeste snapped, furious. "Enough! Lena is an omega. The fact that she had the courage to face you at all is something you should respect. You can’t punish every woman because of Eliza!"

Eliza? The name echoed in my mind. Who was Eliza? From Celeste’s tone, she was clearly tied to something dark in Dominic’s past.

Dominic’s face tightened, shadows slipping across his expression. Pain and anger flickered in his eyes as his hands clenched into fists, tendons standing out sharply.

"Don’t say her name." His voice was low and dangerous, each word squeezed out like a warning.

"Dominic, you can’t keep drowning in what happened back then," Theodore said, firm but gentle. "Lena isn’t Eliza. You should give her a chance. Give yourself a chance."

"A chance?" Dominic shot to his feet, the chair screeching against the floor. "I gave chances. You know what I got? Betrayal. Lies. And pain that never stops."

He turned toward me, eyes burning with fury. "And you think you’re different? You think you can handle the darkest parts of me? Last night was nothing, little omega. You haven’t even seen the worst yet. Trust me—you’ll run like the rest of them, screaming."

I met his stare head-on, not backing down. "Maybe I will, maybe I won’t. But I’m still here, aren’t I?"

Dominic froze for a second, clearly not expecting that kind of answer from me.

Celeste jumped in right away. "See? Lena isn’t afraid of you. She’s got guts, and she’s determined. That’s exactly what you need, Dominic. Don’t let old wounds ruin what’s ahead of you."

"She is afraid." Dominic repeated stubbornly. "She’s just hiding it. All women hide it... until they show who they really are."

I set my fork down, keeping my voice steady. "Yeah, I’m scared. Anyone would be, stepping into a life they don’t understand. But fear doesn’t mean I’m running away. I chose to stay. I’m choosing to face it."

A quiet pause settled over the dining hall. Dominic stared at me, something tangled and unreadable flickering in his eyes.

"Talking tough is easy." he said at last. "Let’s see how long you actually last."

With that, he strode out of the room, leaving an awkward silence hanging behind him.

Celeste let out a sigh, worry all over her face. "I’m sorry, Lena. Dominic... he’s been through more pain than anyone should. Eliza’s betrayal nearly destroyed him. But I believe you can help him find his way out of it."

I nodded, though my mind was already turning over the name Eliza. Whoever she was, she’d clearly carved deep scars into Dominic, maybe even shaped the man he was now.

"Luna Celeste," I asked carefully, "can you tell me more about... about the curse on Dominic?"

Celeste exchanged a glance with Theodore before gently placing her hand over mine. "Lena, the Voss family carries an old curse. It can only be broken if a she-wolf accepts him wholeheartedly and bears his child."

"What kind of curse?" I pressed.

"If Dominic reaches thirty without a woman who genuinely accepts him and gives him a child," Celeste said softly, anxiety tightening her voice, "he’ll lose his human form completely. He’ll turn into a full wolf. A creature that only knows violence."

Shock rippled through me. The rumors I’d heard were nothing like this. People said Dominic was born a monster, that he killed without blinking. They had no idea he was fighting something this terrifying.

Instantly, something inside me softened toward him. I didn’t know if I’d ever fall in love with him.

But I did know my body responded to him... and that I wanted to try helping him.

"Luna Celeste, I swear I’ll do everything I can for Dominic." I said, looking straight into her eyes.

"That’s wonderful. Lena, I knew it—I knew you were the one who could save him." Celeste pulled me into a tight, emotional hug.

Suddenly, my phone rang.
