Chapter 8: Chapter 8
Dominic froze for half a second, like he didn’t expect that at all, then suddenly yanked me onto his lap. His hand clamped around the back of my head, forcing me down toward him. I could feel him getting hard against me, hot and real.
I shifted a little, lining my core right over his growing length, and a shaky, needy sound slipped out of my mouth before I could stop it.
I wanted more—God, I wanted more. My fingers fumbled with his belt, desperate, but before I could continue, the driver’s voice cut in from the front seat.
"Alpha, Luna Celeste requests that you return to the estate immediately."
Dominic’s whole body went rigid. Then his hand locked around my wrist.
"Get off!" he barked.
I stared at him, my chest tightening. I didn’t get it—why he flipped moods like throwing a switch. After that, the car went dead quiet. I folded in on myself, trying to take up less space. I didn’t have the strength to deal with his storms today.
The moment we reached the estate, Luna Celeste rushed over, worry written all over her face.
"Oh heavens, I already heard about that bastard ex of yours. Lena, sweetheart, are you hurt?"
I looked at her, overwhelmed. I didn’t know how to explain it—how someone like me, an Omega, someone meant to be nothing more than a vessel for Dominic’s child, wasn’t supposed to receive kindness from anyone. Even my own father had thrown me away.
How was I supposed to believe good intentions from the people who treated me like a tool?
But Luna Celeste’s warmth was real. I could feel it.
I grabbed her wrist, my voice trembling, eyes burning.
"Luna Celeste, I’m fine. Alpha Dominic... he helped me."
Her eyes softened with a spark of relief.
"Dominic, you did the right thing. Lena is your Luna. You must protect her. In the Bloodmoon Pack, the Alpha’s first duty is to cherish his wife—to guard her life with his own."
"She’s not. I haven’t marked her."
Dominic’s voice was flat as ice before he turned and walked off toward his room.
As soon as he left, Luna Celeste squeezed my shoulder gently.
"Lena, don’t mind him. If he hadn’t accepted you even a little, he wouldn’t have stepped in today. He just... well, you know him. He’s terrified of caring about someone."
Eliza’s face flashed across my mind, and a cold knot twisted in my stomach. I didn’t even know where she’d gone. But why was Luna Celeste so sure I could pull Dominic back from whatever darkness he lived in?
"Luna Celeste... why are you so certain I’m the one who can save him?" I asked quietly.
She took a breath, her expression determined.
"It’s hard to put into words, but every instinct I have says you’re kind, resilient, and sharp—you’re absolutely right for my son."
She patted my hand gently.
"Alright, back to the important part. You need to find a way to live with Dominic."
I thought about last night—him throwing me out of the master bedroom like I was nothing.
I let out a tired sigh.
"Alpha Dominic... he doesn’t want me anywhere near him right now."
Celeste watched me quietly. Those sharp, all-seeing eyes of hers held no judgment, no fake sympathy—just a tired sort of understanding that went straight through me.
"He will push you away, yes. Because he’s terrified of being let down," she said softly. "But you’re different. You’re not like any other she-wolf he’s ever met. He has to actually be close to you to notice that."
She paused, her fingertips brushing the velvet armrest like she was smoothing out her thoughts.
"And he doesn’t have much time left. The pack needs stability too."
I froze. If Dominic kept shutting me out like this... I honestly had no clue how to get through to him.
"Tonight, you and Dominic are staying in the estate," Celeste announced, light and casual, as if she were choosing dessert. "The room is ready."
My smile faltered for a split second.
Did she really expect me to face his rage again?
Lady Celeste didn’t seem to notice how stiff I’d gone. She just kept smiling.
"Opportunities don’t fall from the sky, sweetheart. Sometimes you have to make them happen."
I tugged the corner of my lips upward, trying to look normal, though my smile felt painfully fake. But then a tiny spark of hope flickered in me—someone like Dominic, who hated being told what to do, would never just... cooperate, right?
Dinner ended in a weird, quiet sort of calm. On the surface everything looked fine, but underneath it all... something felt off.
I kept sneaking glances at Dominic, waiting for him to stand up and disappear back to his isolated tower.
But instead, he set down his napkin and went upstairs without a word.
My stomach dropped.
Celeste had a servant bring over a plate of fruit. She handed it to me herself, her smile flawless.
"Lena, take this up and eat with Dominic. You two need time together."
The crystal tray felt cold against my palms as I carried it toward the staircase leading to the master bedroom. Every step felt like walking across a tightrope.
I stopped in front of the heavy wooden door, sucked in a breath, and knocked.
The door opened.
Dominic stood there, still wearing that perfectly tailored dark loungewear from earlier, the color making his skin look even paler. His face was blank, emotionless. His gray eyes slid over me like I was nothing more than a piece of furniture someone had left in the wrong spot.
I immediately lifted the tray a little, forcing my voice to stay steady.
"...Honey, want some fruit? It’s pretty fresh."
His expression darkened instantly. That word hit him like a slap.
His gaze flicked past me toward the turn of the staircase—maybe checking if someone was watching. Or maybe I was just imagining it.
Then he stepped aside.
I walked in, still holding the tray. The door clicked shut behind me.
That tiny sound felt like a trigger being pulled.
A heartbeat later, something powerful and merciless slammed into me, pinning me against the ice-cold wall.
The tray flew from my hands, fruit scattering across the floor. Pain thudded through my back even through my sweater.
I looked up, panic flooding through me, and met his eyes.
No emptiness now.
Only something dark and vicious, cold enough to freeze the air around us.
His hand clamped around my throat, the pressure brutal, his fingers digging into my windpipe.
"You go through all this trouble," he said, voice low and venomous, like a snake whispering against my skin. "What is it you’re actually after?"
The lack of air hit me fast. I clawed at his arm, desperate, spots blooming in my vision.
He watched my face flush a frantic red, watched my eyes water from the lack of air—and something about my agony seemed to strike a nerve deep within him.
Suddenly, he let go.
I dropped forward, coughing hard, dragging in breath after burning breath. My throat felt raw, scraped from the inside. It took a long moment before I could even think straight.
And then—maybe because my brain still wasn’t getting enough oxygen—I did something incredibly stupid.
I bent down, picked up the crystal tray that had miraculously survived, and held it out to him.
"Your mom asked me to bring this up." My breath was unsteady, voice rough. "She said you should eat some fruit. She... she really cares about you."
Dominic’s brows drew together, and the look he gave me was like I’d just told him the sky was green. He stared for two long seconds before finally taking the completely pointless empty plate from my hands. My legs gave out and I slid down the wall, palm pressed to my chest where my heartbeat was still going crazy. For a second there, I honestly thought I was done for. And the weirdest part was... even wrapped in that fear, I could still feel that pull his scent had on me.
"You better not be plotting anything," he said, voice icy.
"What could I possibly do to you?" I panted out, forcing a twitch of a smile that wasn’t really a smile. My voice was trembling, but at least I wasn’t lying. "If you’re worried I’m after something, write up a contract. I won’t touch anything of yours."
Dominic’s eyebrows moved the tiniest bit. Then he slowly crouched, meeting my eyes. The sudden closeness hit me like a punch—his cold aura, the Alpha pressure—so sharp it made me want to shrink back, but the wall behind me kept me in place.
He let out a short, humorless laugh. "Since you’re so desperate to stay, fine. But no matter what you’re scheming, to me you’re just a name. A low-rank Omega."
Even with his ridiculously good-looking face right in front of me, the suffocating pressure and that frigid stare made my lungs tighten, like the air itself didn’t want me breathing.
Staring into his eyes, I suddenly stopped feeling the need to hide anything. He’d find out sooner or later anyway.
"I know about the curse," I said quietly. "The one that says you’ll eventually turn into a beast."
His gaze sharpened instantly, turning even more dangerous, but I pushed on.
"I’m staying because I don’t have another choice. And... because I love Celeste. I want to help her. You really want to watch your parents live the rest of their lives blaming themselves because you became a monster?"
Dominic’s expression darkened, storm-cloud heavy. He straightened, towering over me again as he looked down.
"You think you can pretend to fall for me?" His voice was dripping with cold mockery. "But here’s the thing—real feelings can’t be faked. You’ll walk away eventually."
Something wild flickered in his eyes.
"And when you do, I’ll kill you."
I lifted my head, meeting his stare without backing down.
"Then go ahead. Try."
The air froze for a few seconds. Only our breathing shifted in the silence.
"Now," he said sharply, "get out."
"Sorry," I said, still looking straight at him, not moving an inch. "I can’t. Your mother wants us to sleep in the same room tonight."
