Chapter 91: Chapter 91
Lena’s POV
When Lena woke up, the cramps that had been threatening to wreck her were gone.
Dominic’s hand was still resting over her lower stomach, the heat from his palm steady and comforting, like a small fire that refused to go out.
She didn’t move. Didn’t say a word either.
She just wanted that bit of softness to last a little longer.
"How long are you planning to stay there pretending?" His voice came from behind her, low and lazy.
She turned over to face him, blinking. "How did you know I was awake?"
"I’m not an idiot." He started to pull his hand away.
Lena caught it at once and guided it around her waist, tugging him closer. "Kiss me?"
He looked straight at her, eyes dark and unreadable.
"I want to kiss you." She leaned in first this time, her gaze dropping to his lips like she’d already made up her mind.
He didn’t pull back.
So she pressed a soft kiss to his mouth, brief and light, then drew away again. "Just one taste."
His eyes narrowed a little. "Hungry?"
"Starving."
"What do you want?"
Her hand slid under the hem of his shirt, fingers drifting lazily over his lower abdomen, tracing careless little circles like she was messing with him on purpose. "You."
In the next second, he caught her wrist and pulled her hand back out, his tone rougher now. "Behave."
She lifted a brow, looking way too pleased with herself. "I am behaving. Want to see what not behaving looks like?"
He frowned.
Lena bit her lip, then tapped one finger lightly against the tight line of his abs. "How are you this disciplined? Seriously, it’s kind of insane."
Without another word, Dominic rolled out of bed and put as much distance between them as he could.
She propped herself up on one elbow. "Where are you going?"
"To cook."
Because if he stayed there any longer, honestly, who knew where her hand would end up next.
I watched him leave and couldn’t help smiling.
The first time Lena had met Dominic, she’d known right away he had insane self-control. But this? This was next level. After what she’d just pulled, most men would’ve folded on the spot.
If he could still hold the line with her like that, then honestly, she could believe he’d never slept with Eliza.
She spent the whole day off doing basically nothing. She ate the food Dominic made for her, then crawled right back into bed. Without him there, everything felt boring. Way too quiet.
"Dominic!" she called from the bedroom.
He showed up in the doorway almost immediately.
Lena pushed herself up and patted the space beside her. "Come lie down."
"I have a meeting."
"You’re leaving?"
"Yes."
She stuck out her lower lip. "And you can really just walk away like that?"
He paused for a second. "Are you still hurting?"
"Yes."
"Then stay here and rest."
She caught the hidden meaning in his tone loud and clear: if you’re not feeling well, stay put and don’t even think about moving.
She switched gears instantly. "Actually, I feel fine. Seriously, totally fine."
He just looked at her.
"Really!" she said, jumping out of bed in one smooth motion. She spun once in front of him, then threw herself into his arms. "Can I go with you?"
He looked like he was one second away from laughing.
The meeting Dominic was attending was in a high-rise downtown. When they arrived, Lena saw plenty of people waiting in the lobby. Most of them were Alphas or Betas from other packs.
She decided not to go in after all.
"You’re not coming?" he asked.
She shook her head. "I’ll wait at the café."
He didn’t push it. They split up and went their separate ways.
Lena took a seat by the window, ordered a latte and a slice of cake, then kept her eyes on the entrance of the building. She sent Anna a text, asking if she wanted to come hang out.
Anna replied with a photo of a mountain of documents. "I’m basically drowning in work. Good luck."
Lena had absolutely nothing to do. Vacation was seriously boring as hell.
Just then, a car pulled up in front of the building. Lily got out with a man. He walked ahead, and she followed a step behind, leaving that neat, professional distance between them. Probably her boss.
After they went inside, Lena texted Dominic.
"Did you see Lily?"
"Saw her."
"Was she with her boss?"
"Yeah."
Lena scratched her cheek and let the conversation die there.
An hour later, a new message from Dominic popped up. "We’re all having dinner together tonight. Want to come?"
She paused and thought about it. "Would that be okay?"
"If you want to come, then it’s okay."
A smile tugged at her lips. Of course she wanted to go.
Fifteen minutes later, people started filing out of the building. Dominic was right in the middle of them, impossible to miss. He stood out without even trying.
He said something to the person beside him, then turned and headed toward the café where she was waiting.
She got to her feet and went to meet them at the door.
"Am I dressed way too casual?" Lena glanced down at her laid-back outfit, suddenly feeling awkward. "Am I going to make you look bad?"
Dominic took her hand without hesitation. "No. Not even a little."
That warm feeling hit again, soft and steady, spreading through her chest. The change in him was obvious now. He held her hand in public. He pulled her close like it was the most natural thing in the world.
And the way he looked at her... like she belonged there beside him from the start. It didn’t feel vague anymore. It felt like the beginning of something real.
Daniel drove, while Lena and Dominic sat together in the back.
"Daniel," Lena said, tilting her head, "how are things with Anna?"
Daniel flicked a glance at the rearview mirror. "Good, Luna."
"Just good? That’s it?" She leaned forward between the seats, fully invested now. "Did she move in with you yet, or are you two still doing the long-distance thing?"
Daniel somehow kept a straight face. "We’re taking it one step at a time."
Lena snorted. "Please. The second you fell for her, that whole ’one step at a time’ plan was basically dead." She grinned. "She told me you’ve been cooking for her nonstop. True or false?"
Color crept up Daniel’s face almost instantly. "She told you that?"
"She tells me everything." Looking very pleased with herself, Lena leaned back in her seat. "You better treat her right. She’s my best friend, and for the record, I know where you live."
"Understood, Luna."
When they got to the restaurant, Lily was already waiting outside. The second Lena stepped out of the car, Lily’s eyes locked onto her.
She had been waiting for her.
Dominic noticed it right away. Without saying anything, he headed inside first, quietly leaving room for the two of them.
"I saw you from the coffee shop window," Lily said with a smile. "The moment he came over to get you, I knew he really cared about you."
Lena didn’t deny it. Then Lily’s gaze dropped to the ring on her finger.
"During the meeting, someone asked him about his ring," she said. "And he answered right away. No pause, no dodging. He said he already had a partner."
Lena’s heartbeat kicked up fast.
"They asked him why he’d never made it official before. He said he would." Lily’s eyes were bright with sincere relief. "I was seriously worried this was going to blow up. Good thing it didn’t."
Lena slowly turned the ring on her finger. "If he weren’t Dominic, yeah, it probably would’ve."
Lily went quiet.
"I’m not forgiving his original intention just because things worked out in the end." Lena looked straight at her. "Even if he’s my father, I know he doesn’t love me."
Lily had nothing to say to that. Then the sharp click of high heels on the pavement cut through the silence between them.
Eliza. Lena definitely hadn’t expected to see her here.
Their eyes met, and then Eliza’s gaze dropped to Lena’s ring finger. The silver band caught the light and flashed.
"Lena, what a coincidence." She smiled first.
Lena had to give her credit for that composure. Eliza didn’t want to talk to her any more than she wanted to talk to Eliza, but somehow she still looked polished enough to step right onto the cover of a magazine.
"Small world," Lena said.
"Must be fate." Eliza’s smile didn’t reach her eyes.
Lena couldn’t be bothered to figure out whether this was really a coincidence or if Eliza had tracked Dominic’s schedule again. Honestly, either one was exhausting.
"I’ll head in first," Eliza said.
"Go ahead."
After she left, Lily asked, "Who was that?"
"Dominic’s ex-partner."
Lily frowned, and that expression said basically everything.
Lena gave her arm a light pat. "Come on. Let’s go in."
They walked into the private dining room, and Lena took the seat beside Dominic. Lily sat next to her boss, a man around Dominic’s age—good-looking too, but with a softer, friendlier kind of charm.
Dominic introduced Lena to the others. Everyone greeted her warmly, and she answered with the same energy. The vibe at the table was easy and relaxed, with laughter rising here and there around them.
Then the door opened.
Eliza walked in with a server behind her. She was holding a bottle of wine with both hands.
"Sorry to interrupt." She smiled as she looked around the room. "I’m the owner of this restaurant, Eliza Vane. Thank you all for coming tonight. This bottle is on the house, so please enjoy it. If you need anything at all, just let us know."
