Chapter 93: Chapter 93

Lena’s POV

"Hm?" Dominic looked at her, clearly not getting what she meant.

Right then, Lily walked in. She’d touched up her makeup, sure, but it didn’t do much. Her eyes were still swollen and red, the kind you couldn’t hide no matter how hard you tried.

Lena noticed.

Dominic noticed too.

"There’s definitely something going on between them," Dominic guessed almost at once.

Lena felt the anger rise again, fast and hot. "Whether it’s Lily or anyone else, how is this not disgusting? He sleeps with her, then turns around and lets people set him up on dates with other she-wolves like nothing happened?"

Dominic went quiet for a second, thinking it over, then gave a small nod.

"He never planned to make it official with her." Lena took another sip of water, trying to cool herself down. "And she’s just... putting up with it in silence."

Dominic patted her gently on the back, trying to smooth down her temper. "Shouldn’t you be happy about that?"

"What?"

"If she’s being treated like this, why are you the one getting mad?"

Lena knew exactly what he meant. After everything Lily’s mother had done to her and to her own mother, she should’ve felt satisfied seeing Lily suffer. That would’ve made sense. That would’ve been easier.

She let out a long breath. "You’re right. Maybe this is karma, maybe this is payback. But Lily knows her mother was wrong. She barely even talks to Celia now. I hate her, but..." She paused, rubbing the rim of the glass with her fingers. "Yeah. It’s complicated."

"You said this is her choice." He placed some food onto her plate in a calm, matter-of-fact way. "Then let her make it. Eat."

Lena looked down at the dish. "Is it good?"

"So-so."

"Then we’re not coming back here again."

"Okay."

He agreed so easily that it caught her off guard. He really didn’t seem to care whether they ever came back to Eliza’s restaurant or not. Maybe he truly was ready to let Eliza go.

For the rest of dinner, Lena didn’t look at Lily again.

Lily’s mess had nothing to do with her.

And Eliza never showed up again.

Outside, everyone was waiting to see Dominic off first. He guided Lena into the car, and Daniel got behind the wheel to drive them away.

Lily’s POV

Nathan’s car pulled away from the restaurant. The whole ride went dead quiet, until he finally flicked a glance at her.

“You’ve been crying.”

Lily kept her eyes on the window. “No, I haven’t.”

“Lily, I can always tell when you’ve cried. Don’t insult my eyesight.” His right hand slipped off the steering wheel and closed around hers. “What happened?”

She tried to pull free, but his grip only tightened.

“Talk. What did Lena say to you?”

“Drive.”

“Then we’re not driving.” Nathan jerked the wheel and brought the car to a hard stop by the roadside, straight under a No Parking sign like he couldn’t care less. Horns exploded behind them, sharp and irritated, but he didn’t move an inch.

Lily frowned. “You can’t park here.”

“I don’t care.” He turned toward her, eyes hard and cutting. “Why were you crying? What exactly did Lena say?”

She knew this side of him. Stubborn. Impossible. Once he wanted an answer, he would push and push until he got it.

“I cried because after loving you for all these years, I still lose to some random woman you barely even know.” She looked straight at him, no backing down this time. “Tell me, Nathan. When do I get to be the woman you admit to in daylight?”

His jaw tightened. He let go of her hand and turned away. “I’m not doing this again. We already talked about it. What we have right now is fine. Not every relationship needs to be public. Plenty of people become mates and still end up splitting.”

Lily stared at him. That casual tone. That detached look. Not even a shred of guilt. It was brutal, honestly.

“Lily, you can’t keep changing the rules.” His voice stayed flat, almost cold. “You’re not a kid anymore. Every choice you’ve made, you made with your eyes open.”

“The one who loves more is always the one who loses more in the end.” She shoved the car door open. “I need to be alone.”

She got out and slammed the door hard enough to make the whole car shake. Nathan didn’t come after her. The engine roared, tires scraped against the asphalt, and the car shot off, vanishing around the corner.

Lily stood there, watching his taillights disappear.

Then the tears came rushing back.

I walked alone down an empty street, the streetlights stretching my shadow long across the pavement. Around me, the night was still buzzing, people coming and going, the whole place alive. And somehow, I was the only one who looked completely alone.

Lena’s POV

Lena had just stepped out of the shower when Dominic said, "Someone called you earlier."

"Who was it?"

"I didn’t check."

She picked up her phone, giving him a doubtful look. "Seriously? You weren’t even curious?"

"I’m not you."

"That’s because I actually care about you," she shot back. Then she checked the missed call, her brows pulling together, and called back right away.

Before Lily could even say a word, all Lena heard was sobbing on the other end. She called her name, but Lily didn’t answer. She just kept crying, like she was completely falling apart.

"Where are you?" Lena asked.

Lily’s voice came in broken pieces. "I’m so stupid... I hate myself... I know he doesn’t love me... so why can’t I let him go..."

"Lily, where are you? Are you home? I’m coming over now."

"I’m not home."

"Then where are you?" Lena’s voice rose, sharper this time.

But Lily refused to say. "It’s late. Just go to sleep. I just... needed to say it out loud."

"You call me in the middle of the night, won’t tell me where you are, and all I can hear is you crying your eyes out. How am I supposed to sleep after that?" Lena was getting pissed now. She shouldn’t have cared. This wasn’t supposed to be her mess. But hearing Lily break down like that over the phone, there was no way she’d be able to shut her eyes tonight unless she knew she was safe.

Celia was trash, but Lena wasn’t.

Dominic poured her a glass of water and motioned for her to calm down.

She took a sip and said, "Tell me where you are. Now."

Dominic drove, and Lena gave him the address Lily had finally, reluctantly told her.

On an old street at the edge of town, everything looked dim and dead quiet. Under a massive oak tree, Lily sat there all by herself.

Empty bottles were scattered around her feet, and a few crushed cans were still sitting on the bench. She looked weirdly pitiful, like some abandoned kid the whole city had forgotten about. In spite of everything, Lena felt a stab of sympathy.

"Let me talk to her," Lena said as she unfastened her seat belt.

Dominic Voss gave a small nod. "I’ll wait."

She got out and walked over. The moment Lily saw her, she forced out a smile. It was honestly painful to look at.

"Don’t do that." Lena stopped in front of her. "That smile looks worse than crying."

Lily held out a can of beer toward her. "Want one?"

"No." Lena sat down beside her. "So what’s the plan? You gonna sit here till sunrise?"

"I don’t know." Lily popped open another can and took a hard gulp. Then she glanced at Dominic Voss’s car parked beneath the streetlight and let out a bitter little laugh. "I envy you."

Lena knew exactly what she meant.

"If it had been your mother forcing you to sign that agreement instead of mine," Lena said, "would you have signed it?"

Lily stared at the beer in her hand. "No."

"Then what are you even jealous of?" Lena turned to look at her. "If he’d died, you would’ve laughed at me. You would’ve been glad the one sent to Bloodmoon Pack wasn’t you."

Lily’s fingers shook.

"People only ever see the outside stuff." Lena leaned back against the bench, her voice flat. "Only the person living it knows what it’s really like once the door closes."

Lily bit her lip. Lena’s tone softened a little. She didn’t want to kick someone when she was already down bad.

"You know this as well as I do," she said. "Once all this blows over, you’ll go back to him."

She didn’t really know Lily that well. But a woman who could lose a baby because her man was sneaking around with other women, and still go back to him after that, was not going to walk away over some one-night mess.

Lena wasn’t trying to preach. This was Lily’s life, Lily’s call. If Lena pushed her to leave and Lily refused, then she’d just end up cast as the villain in somebody else’s love story.

"So what now?" Lena asked. "You gonna keep drinking, or are you going home?"

Lily crushed the empty can in her hand. "Home."

"I’ll take you."

"Thanks."

The whole ride, Lily kept her eyes shut like she was trying to block out the world. Lena sat in the front passenger seat, turning around every few minutes to check on her.

Love could really mess a person up. Some people wrecked their whole lives for it, then dressed it up with pretty words like passion, like sacrifice.

But if that was really love, it shouldn’t hurt this much. Not like this.

The car finally came to a stop, and Lily opened her eyes.

"Thank you, Alpha Dominic," she said softly. She grabbed her bag, pushed the door open, and got out.

Dominic said nothing.

Lena watched Lily stumble forward, her steps unsteady in the dim light. "Do you want me to walk you upstairs?"

"No need." Lily shut the door and lifted a hand with a small smile. "Bye."

Lena frowned and kept watching until Lily disappeared through the building entrance.

"If you’re worried," Dominic said, his voice low, "go check on her."

"She’s an adult. She knows what she’s doing." Lena turned back around and faced forward. "Let’s just go home."

The car made a slow U-turn. Then a text from Lily popped up on Lena’s screen.

"I’ll let him go. I promise."

Lena read it, then let out a quiet little laugh, more tired than amused. She didn’t text back.

"What’s so funny?" Dominic asked.

"Nothing." She paused, then turned to look at him. "If Eliza told you she didn’t want to live with you in any way, shape, or form, and only wanted to be your lover, would you go for that?"
