Chapter 94: Chapter 94

Lena’s POV

Dominic’s face darkened on the spot. "Do women seriously think about nothing but love and sex all day?"

Lena paused and actually gave it some thought.

Honestly? Pretty much.

She said, "That’s not just a woman thing. Men are exactly the same."

Dominic looked like he was one second away from smashing his head into something. "Where do you even get all these ridiculous ideas?"

"Then tell me," she shot back, "am I wrong?"

He didn’t answer. So she just lifted one shoulder and said casually, "Men want women. Women want men. That’s the most natural thing in the world. Same as me wanting you. Totally normal."

By now, he was basically used to her dropping bold lines like that out of nowhere. His face barely changed.

"Dominic." Her tone shifted, suddenly serious.

Dominic glanced at her.

"Do you like me now?"

His eyes moved away again, back to the road ahead.

Lena leaned forward, resting her weight against the armrest. "You do, right? You said you could only be with someone you liked. And last night, if my body hadn’t stopped us, we would’ve slept together again."

She still wasn’t fully used to being this blunt, but saying it out loud sent a strange little thrill through her, like a spark running under her skin.

Dominic swallowed hard. His fingers tightened around the steering wheel until his knuckles turned white.

Lena watched every tiny reaction, every flicker in his face, and her smile grew brighter. "If you stay quiet, I’m taking that as a yes."

She lifted her right hand and admired the ring on her finger. Under the streetlights, the silver gleamed softly. "Let’s just keep going like this. It feels really nice."

Everyone at the company could tell she was in a crazy good mood. One coworker even asked if something big had happened, because she was practically glowing.

"You’ve got a partner that powerful backing you up, so why are you still here grinding at work? You should just stay home already."

“You still miss those days of staring at handsome guys and pretty girls every day? Hard pass, thanks.” Lena kept her tone light. “Besides, I’d get bored fast.”

“With a partner that handsome, you still want to look at other people?”

“I’m mostly looking at pretty girls.”

The whole office cracked up at that, laughter popping off all at once. The mood stayed easy and bright. Lena had always gotten along well with her coworkers. No fake smiles, no backstabbing, no messy office politics. Just people doing their jobs properly and messing around in a real, honest way when the moment called for it.

At lunch, she was getting ready to head out with the others when Nathan Cross suddenly appeared and stepped right into her path.

She told everyone else to go on ahead.

“Where’s Lily?” He didn’t say hello. Didn’t bother with small talk either. His voice came out stiff and blunt.

Lena looked left, then right, then pointed at herself. “Wait, are you asking me?”

His pack was allied with Bloodmoon Pack, so he couldn’t exactly show open hostility here.

He eased his tone a little. “Lena, Lily’s gone. Her apartment’s been cleared out, and her phone’s disconnected. Do you know where she went?”

“She left?” Lena blinked, genuinely thrown, because she really had no idea.

Nathan studied her face closely, like he was trying to catch even the tiniest crack in it. “You seriously don’t know?”

“We barely talk. I don’t keep tabs on her life.” Lena gave a small shrug. “If she left, I definitely wouldn’t be the first person to know. That’s just normal.”

“She changed after seeing you last night.” Nathan had already decided Lily’s disappearance had something to do with Lena. That was obviously why he’d come straight to her.

Lena stared at him, disbelief written all over her face. “So what, you think I made her disappear?”

He frowned. “I’m asking whether she contacted you afterward.”

“No.” Lena tilted her head. “You’re her person. Shouldn’t you know better than I do where she is?”

His expression turned colder on the spot.

“I do have a thought, though,” Lena said, not backing down an inch. “If she vanished without saying a word, maybe instead of coming here to grill me, you should spend a little more time asking yourself why she wanted to disappear in the first place.”

His face darkened even more. Lena gave a faint smile, turned to leave, then paused.

"And one more thing—if you can’t give her a future, then stop taking up her present."

The second Lena walked out, she pulled out her phone and called Lily. Straight to voicemail. The phone was off.

She let out a soft little laugh. She wasn’t worried. Lily had texted her last night, saying, "I’ll let go." Lena had figured it would take her a few weeks to actually do it, but clearly, nope. Not this time.

She didn’t know if Lily was leaving for good or just taking a breather, but either way, she’d finally taken that first step.

Her period was over, but Dominic had become insanely busy.

Pack business was getting heavier by the day. Alliances between packs, trade agreements, territory disputes—there was always something blowing up. Dominic was swamped from dawn till way past dark.

By the time he came home, he looked dead tired, and Lena honestly couldn’t bring herself to pile more on him.

One night, she was still curled up on the couch waiting for him when he finally came in. He loosened his collar, his eyes carrying that dull, heavy fatigue. "I’m not coming home tomorrow night."

She looked up. "Why?"

"I’ve got back-to-back meetings with the western packs. It’s easier if I stay at the manor."

Lena nodded. "Yeah, that makes sense."

He took a drink of water, then turned to look at her. "Move in with me."

Before this, she’d stayed at his manor for a short while, then moved back to her own apartment. After that, he’d followed her there—and never really left.

She shifted a little on the sofa, curiosity flickering in her eyes. "Why did you move in with me back then? At that point, you didn’t feel anything for me."

He rinsed out the glass and set it back in place. "Does the reason still matter now?"

"I’m just curious."

"The outcome is what it is. The reason doesn’t change anything."

She sat with that for a second, then gave a small nod. "Okay."

He looked at her steadily. "So? Are you moving in?"

"Of course." She answered without even pausing. "If you’re working late, it’ll be easier for me to go see you."

He clearly didn’t buy my whole selfless excuse, but he let it slide and didn’t call me on it.

"I’m going to pack a few things."

"You don’t need much. There’s everything you need there."

Even so, Lena still went into the bedroom and put together a small bag. Underwear, pajamas, a few basic toiletries. Nothing fancy, just the essentials.

This apartment was her safe zone, her fallback, the one place that was fully hers. She wasn’t about to strip it bare. If anything went sideways, she’d still need somewhere to land.

Dominic barely owned anything to begin with, so there wasn’t really much for him to pack.

After she locked the front door, he carried the bag into the elevator. Lena stepped over to his side, slipped her hand into his, and traced lazy little circles across his palm with her fingertips.

"Dominic."

"Hm?"

"This is nice, isn’t it? What we have right now."

"Yeah."

"Do you think it could last forever?"

He didn’t answer.

Lena tipped her head up to look at him and gave his hand a small, gentle swing. "Not feeling very confident about forever?"

His gaze settled on her face, deep and unreadable, like a lake so dark she couldn’t see the bottom.

His lips parted slightly, like he was about to say something, but before the words came, she laughed first.

"Forever’s a pretty heavy word. I was just saying it. Who knows, maybe I’ll be the one who can’t make it to the end."

His fingers tightened around hers, and her smile turned brighter.

Yeah, she knew it. Talking about forever now was way too soon.

The last time Lena came to Dominic’s manor, the vibe had been completely different. Back then, it had felt cold, quiet, strictly business. But now, something had changed between them, and even the walls seemed warmer because of it.

"Are we sleeping in the same room?" she asked.

Dominic clearly hadn’t expected her to ask that.

They were partners now. Sharing a bed should’ve been the obvious thing, no big deal.

But Lena still caught that tiny pause from him, that split-second hesitation, and her heart instantly pulled back a little. She gave herself an out right away. "It’s fine. I can just sleep in the guest room."

"No."

"What?"

He lifted a hand and pointed at the master bedroom door, his tone flat but firm. "You sleep there."
