Chapter 95: Chapter 95

Lena’s POV

Carrying my bags, Lena walked into the master bedroom, biting back a smile the whole way.

The walk-in closet was bigger than her entire bedroom back at the apartment. She hung her clothes beside his, listening to the soft slide of fabric against fabric—her lighter, softer things pressed right up against his dark, sharp-cut shirts.

That tiny bit of closeness made her pulse jump.

She flopped facedown onto his bed. The sheets smelled like him. With every breath, that scent sank deeper into her, slipping into her lungs and stirring something raw and restless deep inside her.

He didn’t come in.

Didn’t even check on her.

"Dominic." She leaned against the doorframe and called his name softly.

He turned, and she crooked a finger at him.

"What?" His voice had that guarded edge to it, like he already knew she was up to something.

"Do you have any memories tonight?"

He sucked in a breath. That question had absolutely nothing to do with the meeting.

Still leaning there, she made no effort to hide the invitation in her posture. He stared at her, his throat bobbing once. "I—"

Then the laptop on the desk chimed.

He glanced at the screen, frowned, then looked back at her. The spark in her eyes dimmed almost right away.

"I need to take this. Go get some sleep."

She puffed out her lips, clearly unhappy, but pack business was pack business. No matter how she felt, she had to back off.

Dominic shot her a loaded look, then picked up the laptop, walked into the study, and shut the door behind him.

Left outside with nothing to do, she sat around for a while. Through the door, she could hear several voices talking at once, going on about border agreements and trade routes. Super serious stuff. Super boring too.

Thirty minutes later, she was done being patient. She pushed open the study door.

She was barefoot, her hair loose over her shoulders, dressed in a silk nightgown with straps so thin they barely counted as clothing.

The fabric clung to every curve of Lena’s body, and the hem of her dress stopped well above her knees. Her bare legs caught the light, smooth and almost glowing.

Dominic Voss looked up and saw her.

She walked toward him slowly, unhurried on purpose. His gaze locked on her at the doorway and followed her the whole way to his desk.

Lena watched, clear as day, as that cool, steady look on his face started falling apart bit by bit. He muted his microphone, then switched off the camera.

The other Alpha council members were still talking. He could hear every word from them, but they couldn’t hear a thing from him.

"Why aren’t you asleep yet?" His voice dropped, rougher now.

Good. The camera was off.

"Can’t sleep." She lifted her right knee onto his thigh, then swung her other leg over and settled right into his lap. Her arms slid around his neck like it was the most natural thing in the world. "I just want to sit here for a while. You can keep doing your meeting."

His throat tightened. "Sit where?"

Lena leaned her full weight against him, chest pressed to his, chin resting on his shoulder. Her breath brushed the shell of his ear, soft and warm. "On you."

His breathing instantly turned uneven. One of his hands went to her waist, fingers digging in as if he meant to move her off him.

"Don’t touch me." She closed her eyes, voice lazy and calm. "If you keep that up, I can’t promise this meeting’s going to stay on track."

He froze on the spot.

"You can’t sit on me during a meeting."

"Then end the meeting."

"It’s important."

"Then stop moving and let me stay."

She curled against him like a cat, warm, soft, and perfectly still, doing nothing except breathing in the scent at his neck. Cedarwood and smoke wrapped together, deep and familiar, and she let herself sink into it.

Then Dominic heard someone calling his name through the speaker. He cleared his throat and turned his microphone back on.

"...Camera issue," he said when they asked why the screen had gone black. "Go on."

I was sitting right on his lap, and he was obviously distracted. A woman was pressed against him, breathing warm against his ear, her heartbeat almost matching his. No man was built to just tank that like it was nothing.

I tried to stay still. Seriously, I did. But holding one position for too long was low-key torture, and the second I shifted my hips to get comfortable, his whole body went rigid.

"Don’t move," he said through clenched teeth.

"What was that?" one of the Alphas asked over the call.

Dominic gritted out, "Nothing. I have a cat. She’s a little restless."

Leaning against his shoulder, Lena grinned, then lightly dragged her nails across the back of his neck. He caught her wrist at once. She leaned closer to his ear and gave the lobe a soft little pinch with her fingers.

He shot her a vicious look, and she only smiled wider. She’d won, and they both knew it.

"Behave," he muttered, so quietly it was almost soundless.

Dominic looked straight at her, a silent warning burning in his eyes. She could read it clearly: he wanted to throw her onto the desk, strip her clothes off right now, and make her pay for every second of this.

She leaned back into him, pressing herself tight against his chest, wrapping both arms around him. "I’ll be good. Promise."

His hand stayed locked around her wrist, brows drawn tight, jaw hard as stone.

They stared at each other.

Then the doorbell rang.

Lena whipped her head toward the sound. This late? Who on earth would come to the manor at this hour?

"I’ll get it." She slid off his lap.

Dominic let out a long breath, like a man who’d been holding it forever. She caught him glancing down at his pants. Yeah, there was no missing it. He was hard.

She ran her fingers through her hair, walked to the front door, and pulled it open.

"Dominic—"

The moment Eliza saw Lena, her smile dropped clean off her face.

Her gaze landed on Lena’s nightdress—the thin straps, the bare shoulders, the hem riding high over her thighs—and Eliza’s whole body went stiff in an instant.

I lifted a brow. "Bit late for a visit, isn’t it?"

She said she was just passing by. She saw the lights on. She’d probably assumed Dominic was home alone, because the last time she’d seen him, he was still living at my apartment. If he’d moved back into his own place, then yeah, she must’ve figured we’d broken up.

What she definitely hadn’t expected was for me to open the door in lingerie.

"Is Dominic home?" Her voice came out a little tight.

"He’s in a meeting." I wasn’t lying. "You want to come in?"

Eliza should’ve taken that as her cue to leave, but Eliza had never been good at walking away from anything that had Dominic’s name on it.

"Of course."

I stepped aside and let her in. She walked straight into the living room like she owned the place, eyes sweeping over everything. The study door was shut, a thin strip of light leaking through the crack, voices faintly carrying from inside.

That seemed to settle her a little.

I went over and pushed the study door fully closed, then came back, poured her a glass of water, and set it in front of her. After that, I dropped onto the sofa across from her.

I crossed one leg over the other, completely at ease, even though this house had once been somewhere she came often.

"What are you doing here this late?" I took a sip of water. "He probably won’t have time to see you tonight."

Eliza looked at me. I was wearing Dominic’s sleep shirt, his ring on my hand, his sheets’ scent still clinging to my skin, stretched lazily against the sofa.

Everything about me was screaming that I belonged here.

And everything about her showing up was screaming that, in her mind, I didn’t.

"It’s nothing serious." She forced out a smile. "I was just stopping by."

Her gaze moved around the room. "Looks pretty much the same as before."

I smiled right back. "We only moved back in tonight. I’m planning to redo the place tomorrow. You know how it is—a bachelor-pad vibe doesn’t really work for us."

Eliza and I had crossed paths enough times by now. Deep down, she knew perfectly well: as long as I was still Dominic’s partner, she was never going to win this one.
