Chloe pushed Seara’s hand away and wiped the dirt from her mouth with the back of her hand. Tears streamed down her face, but she didn’t make a sound.
She knew it was a critical moment, and she would put them in grave danger if she made a sound. Chloe gritted her teeth when she saw a worm writhing near her feet. She tugged Seara’s sleeve and pointed at it; her face looked pale.
Seara followed her line of sight and kicked the worm away. That little thing had never bothered her. At some point in the past, she had a pet worm while she was in the cell of the Blackthorne Pack, but unfortunately it died after a few days.
Currently, the two of them were hiding in the den of the wolves. This was the place where Seara watched Misty and Ghost, the two new pups who had just been born.
The den was not big, but it was enough for Chloe and Seara to scoot over and cram into it, since this was the first place that came to her mind.
"What is that?" Chloe tensed up when she heard the rustling sound and the bushes moved. She felt so miserable, and the raindrops only added to her misery.
And from behind the bushes, two wolves emerged; neither of them was very big, so you could tell they were pretty young.
"Oh, shit. We are going to be ripped apart." Chloe was scared. She had heard how aggressive the wild wolves in this forest could be; that was why she had never set foot here.
"No. They are Misty and Ghost," Seara said in delight and waved her hand to gesture for the wolves to come over.
"Don’t call them over; you can’t know for sure with wild animals," Chloe chided Seara. Her eyes widened when the two wolves came over to them.
"No. They are nice," Seara replied. "Moreover, we are in their den."
Chloe was speechless when she heard that. She didn’t know it was a wolf den. This woman before her was... wild.
The two wolves came over and licked Seara’s fingers, but when one of them tried to get closer to Chloe, she recoiled.
"I don’t want to touch them; they are dirty." Chloe moved back, half hiding behind Seara. "Take them away from me," she hissed.
Ghost had white fur around his face, while Misty had grey fur that covered her like a blanket, and Ghost was slightly bigger than Misty now.
But then, they heard that voice again, and Seara gathered the two young wolves on her lap and hugged them, while Chloe was hiding behind her back too.
"I know you are there. Come out now; I will not hurt you. Promise. I only want to take you to meet someone and talk to him. Come on, don’t waste my time."
The woman’s sultry voice echoed through the forest as the rain was pouring down and the den was a little bit flooded.
"Do you know how to go back to find Zade?" Chloe asked in a low voice as both of them watched the woman walk to them slowly.
The woman was not lying when she said that she knew they were there, and she took her time, like a predator that assessed its prey.
Chloe didn’t like this feeling. The alpha blood in her couldn’t take the situation where she became prey. She was better with a confrontation.
"Yes." Seara tilted her head and looked at Chloe as she realized what she was going to do. "No, you can’t sacrifice yourself like that."
Chloe made a face when she heard what Seara said. "Girl, I will not be that noble to sacrifice myself for you after you take away my fiancé. Don’t overestimate yourself."
Chloe was still holding a grudge because she had been engaged to Zade for three years, and it ended just like that, especially when she was banned from coming over.
"If only you could shift into your wolf, I would ask you to be the decoy so I can ask for help, but since you can’t and both of us will be at the mercy of this demoness, this is the only way I can think of, unless you have a better way."
Chloe challenged Seara, and she was right; she didn’t have a better way. The fact that she couldn’t shift into her beast form was very discouraging.
But they didn’t have a lot of time to decide whether it would work or not or even discuss different ways to handle it, because Lilith was already right outside the den, and she crouched down to look at Seara and Chloe with a wide grin on her face.
Her golden eyes lit up with the lightning in the sky behind her.
"Found you." She flicked her wrist, and Seara and Chloe felt something slither on the ground and wrap itself around them as this invisible thing dragged them out of the den.
Seara and Chloe screamed in panic as they scrambled to get away from it.
Once they were outside the den, the droplets of rain helped them see its shape. It was indeed like a snake that coiled around their body, and it turned out that there were more than one.
Seara felt her stomach churn, but Chloe then shifted into her wolf form, which gave her a chance to free herself.
She should be able to escape, and the idea crossed her mind, since this demoness seemed to be interested in Seara.
And for a split second, Chloe turned around, and Seara watched the brown copper wolf about to rush away to save herself.
However, it took only five steps for Chloe to turn around again, and she began to attack the invisible snake that wrapped around Seara to set her free from it.
Seara immediately stood up and tried to move away as the brown copper wolf stood in front of her, snarling at the woman.
