There was only one reason the Lycan was not allowed to kill, and it was because it would strengthen the beast inside of them.

There should be a balance between their spirit and the human side for every shifter. But this case had a different consequence for the Lycans as the stronger shifters in this realm.

For every life the Lycan took, it would feed their beast, weakening their human side. And if it kept going on like this, the Lycan would go feral and lose themselves to the point they wouldn’t be able to differentiate friends from foes.

It was what happened to Zade a hundred years ago when he annihilated a whole pack of the Ironclad Pack.

It took the other two Lycan kings and a few half-blooded Lycans like Ace and Zephyr to stop Zade. They had to lock him up for months to wear down the influence of his beast and weaken him.

But even after that, Zade would struggle to keep his beast at bay for so many years until he could finally fully control himself.

That was why he was called the mad Lycan king.

For this reason, too, despite being the strongest shifters in the realm, they could not kill recklessly.

The one life that Zade had taken earlier might not have had any effect, but it would tempt him to take more and more. And if Zade gave in to his desire, what happened a hundred years ago would be repeated.

Ace was there to keep Zade in check for that reason.

Only a handful of trusted people knew this fact, and obviously, not the werewolf kind.

"So, what kind of poison are you using on my mate?" Zade watched the three women in front of him with derision. These were the people who had caused his mate to lose her wolf spirit.

Since he couldn’t kill them all, it would be fun...

On the floor, Daven whimpered in pain, while Eudora lowered her head deeply until her chin touched her chest. She was scared but also ashamed of Daven’s current condition.

As the Alpha, he should have put up a fight, but then she was not that naïve to think Daven would be able to take down a Lycan.

Yet, when Eudora caught sight of King Zade, she found herself unable to take her eyes off him.

"No, no... I am sorry, King Zade. I am sorry... The poison is not coming from me..." Brigid said hastily, and she snapped back pretty fast when she sensed the danger that came from the Lycan king.

For a moment, she was mesmerized by the sight before her eyes. She had never seen anyone as captivating as King Zade.

He was the first Lycan king that she had ever seen directly.

It was true what people said about him, that he was terrifying and dangerous, but at the same time, there was a charm in danger.

His electric blue eyes... They were blazing with rage and menace, yet Brigid found herself having a hard time taking her eyes away from him.

His deep voice and the way he moved carried the air of a noble shifter, something that not even Daven could impersonate.

When he was in the room, all the people’s attention would be drawn to him. His presence was very strong.

And Brigid was not the only person who was captivated by the mad Lycan king; Eudora and Enid were blushing despite their fear for him.

They were literally going to meet their demise or something equally bad, yet they couldn’t help themselves.

"Seara is my sister, and even though we are not really getting along well, I still love her. She has been in my family for so many years. Please, have mercy... Seara will understand that I meant no harm. It is the two of them who have been scheming against her." Brigid threw Enid and Eudora under the bus easily, since she had a fallout with them a few weeks ago.

"What? You are the one who has bullied Seara day and night, since you are under the same roof!" Enid shouted at Brigid loudly. "You locked her inside her room and starved her when the former gamma left the house, and there were only the two of you!"

And then, there were more and more ugly stories that they poured out, without them knowing that they were digging their own graves.

Silas wanted to stop Brigid, but his eyes darkened at all of the things they had done to Seara, which he didn’t know about.

"Wolfsbane, that’s the poison that they used to kill Seara’s wolf spirit," Silas said, cutting off the train of stories about all the horrendous things they had done to Seara.

"Very well, find me that poison." Zade watched as Daven fell unconscious because the pain was too much. "And wake him up."

***

Maisie and Caylin came this morning as usual and found the royal gamma in the living room. He was sleeping there, but they didn’t think much of it, since the instruction from the king was pretty clear that Gamma Zephyr was to pay close attention to his mate.

However, they screamed when they saw a wolf on the bed, curling against Seara.

"What?" Zephyr sprang to his feet and rushed to approach the terrified omegas.

"That... That..." Maisie pointed her finger at the bed while Caylin was hiding behind her. "Reaper... The wolf is in there..."

"Is... Is it okay? Is it not dangerous?" Caylin asked; her voice was trembling. She was still hiding behind Maisie.

"Why don’t you take the wolf away, Gamma Zephyr?" Maisie looked at Zephyr, who was apparently standing behind the two of them.

"I am scared too, okay." Zephyr furrowed his brows.

Maisie and Caylin: "..."

The omegas just realized that the Gamma was standing behind them. The thing was that Reaper became very aggressive every time he came closer to Seara, probably sensing his intention to throw him out.
