Seara remembered what happened last night. Even though she was a little bit startled to see Zade when she woke up, she was not as scared as before.
"Good morning." Seara stretched her body and curled under the blanket again as she moved closer to Zade. The Lycan was sitting down on the bed.
Seara expected a kiss on her forehead, because he had done that every single morning, but instead, Zade took her hand and kissed her knuckles.
"Come on, wake up. We are going to the main building. There are a few things that I want to show you." He caressed her head. Grateful that what happened last night didn’t affect her severely.
"Five minutes." Seara closed her eyes again.
"You have to wake up now." Despite what he said, Zade kept brushing his fingers against her long hair, which he knew very well didn’t help wake her up.
And it was only an hour later that Seara was ready to go to the main building. She was wearing a simple shirt and jeans, but when she looked around for Zade’s jacket, she couldn’t find it.
"I went out this morning, and it was a little bit dirty, so I don’t think you can wear it." Zade caressed her cheek. "You have countless jackets that you have not yet worn, you know. Why don’t you try them?"
Indeed, Seara had them, but it didn’t feel as comfortable as the one with Zade’s scent.
But aside from the jacket, there was another thing that she felt a little bit off about him: Zade had not kissed her even once. Even when he kissed her, he would kiss her hands instead.
It didn’t sit well with Seara because she knew how affectionate Zade could be. He could suddenly kiss her with no reason at all, simply because he wanted to.
Was it because of last night?
Seara strived for something familiar, a routine; thus, when something unusual happened, it threw her out of balance; it bothered her.
"I want a kiss," Seara said, tugging at his shirt when they walked to the main building. Zade wanted Seara to remember her way around the residence, and Seara was more than happy to walk with him. It was her favorite thing to do.
"Sure." Zade leaned over and kissed her forehead, and then when he pulled away, he laughed. "You look so disappointed."
"Are you still mad at me?" Seara didn’t know why, but when something was not right, her first instinct was to blame herself; she was the problem. She and Jane had been working on this, but Jane said it would take time; she should be patient with herself.
"I will never be mad at you, Seara." Zade stopped walking. He cupped her face, and this time, he kissed her on the lips.
The kiss was gentle and careful... too careful. Zade was holding back.
However, Seara didn’t know how to voice her thoughts to him. She knew it was her fault for pushing him away. She was not oblivious to how the mate bond worked. The pull between them was strong, and the urge for Zade to mark her must be difficult to control.
"Want more?" Zade teased her; he still acted as usual, but the restraint was there.
But before Seara could respond, she caught sight of two warriors walking around the garden; they were on patrol duty and immediately pushed Zade away.
"No."
Zade followed his mate’s line of sight and found what startled her. "You can only ask if you want more," he said lightly, as he put his arms behind her back obsessively.
When they arrived at the main building, it was so close to lunchtime, so Zade asked for their food to be brought to his room.
Seara was stunned when she saw the main building. It was a three-story building with a lot of windows. The decoration and the detail of the sculpture on the walls and the pillars felt as if they had come from centuries ago.
Even the entire design of the building didn’t match this era; it was as if this building had travelled in time to be here.
"Is it too much for you?" Zade asked Seara after she stopped walking right in front of the building.
It was one of the reasons why he didn’t take Seara to the main building right away, because he knew this place could be very intimidating for her, and he was right.
The main pillars alone were bigger than her, and they reached the third floor with the sculpture of wolves and the moon.
"I am... I am fine." Seara clutched Zade’s arm a little bit tighter. She tried to remember the breathing technique that Jane had taught her when she felt she was going to have a panic attack. "Just... give me a moment."
Seara intertwined her fingers with Zade’s. Whenever she felt overwhelmed, it was as if she were being sucked away into a whirlpool. She was drowning and spiraling.
However, Zade was there, and he felt like an anchor that could keep her safe and stay in place.
"We can go if..."
"No. I am okay." Seara cut him off with her slightly trembling voice. "Just... just don’t let go of my hand."
"I will not."
And then, both of them entered the house, as two omegas opened the double doors, and behind them was a very spacious living room that could accommodate a hundred people.
"Do you..." Seara gulped with difficulty as she tried to distract herself by talking. "Do you live here alone?"
"There are a few omegas who are allowed to enter the building, but aside from that, yes. I live here alone."
Aside from the two people who opened the main door, Seara didn’t see anyone else inside. It was so empty.
Zade glanced at Seara, who was trying to fight back her panic attack, and kept talking to distract her until they reached his bedroom.
