Chapter 68: Chapter 68 Priority

Zane was currently discussing the company’s finances with Aleph. Other than the two of them, only Ryuken was there, currently sleeping on the couch.

"I’ve already had enough of all these investors. What do they mean by telling us we need at least 30 hunters before they will agree to invest in us?"

"Even our current number of hunters is already stretching our budget to the limit. Who’s going to pay all 30 hunters?" Zane complained as she massaged her forehead.

Day by day, she was becoming more stressed. Lately, every morning after waking up, she would immediately look at her forehead in the mirror, checking for wrinkles. She had been frowning so frequently that she was starting to worry about them.

"There is nothing we can do about it. We just need to rely on selling the loot we obtain from dungeons," Aleph said as he clipped the papers together.

"Sigh..."

Zane let out a long sigh. Becoming the CEO of a struggling company was really tough, even for her. But she had to endure it for the sake of all the hunters under her.

Knock! Knock!

Suddenly, someone knocked on the door. Zane and Aleph looked at each other. It was rare for someone to knock on their door nowadays, since their members usually just barged in. Which meant the person knocking was an outsider.

"Hey, Ryuken! Open the door. Ryuken!" Aleph shouted.

Ryuken immediately sat up, still looking sleepy. He scratched his head before lazily walking toward the door. As soon as he opened it, his eyes widened.

"Lars! My brother!" He immediately hugged Lars.

"Urgh! Hello, Ryuken! Can you let me go?" Lars said, wincing slightly from the tight hug.

"Lars?!"

Zane was surprised. Aleph was equally shocked as he turned his chair toward the door. Two men, one with black hair and the other with orange hair, had entered their office. It was Lars and Max.

"Are you alright, Lars? You look a little pale." Zane asked as she noticed that something seemed different about him.

"I’m fine. I came here because I want to talk to you," Lars said.

Aleph immediately cleared all the papers from the table and placed them aside. He then prepared some tea at the small table beside them.

Lars sat down on one of the chairs while Max stood beside him. Zane noticed that both of them looked unusually serious.

"I never expected you to come here yourself. What do you want to talk about?" Zane asked with calm expression.

But inwardly, she was excited. The man sitting in front of her was someone she had been trying to recruit for a long time. Someone who could completely turn their company’s fortunes around. So Zane knew she needed to choose her words carefully.

"I want to ask your company for help in fighting an enemy," Lars said directly.

Zane raised an eyebrow. She was interested and wanted to know more.

"Who is this enemy we’re talking about?" she asked.

"Black Maria," Lars answered. "They kidnapped my friend, so I want to attack them and save her."

’Her?’ Zane frowned slightly.

"Black Maria?! Hey, hey! Do you even know what you’re talking about? You want our help to fight an underground gang? That is ridiculous!" Aleph exclaimed.

Zane raised a hand toward Aleph.

"And what will our company get in return if we help you? You know how this works." Zane said.

Lars stared at her for a moment before finally speaking.

"I will make a deal with your company. I will provide Class Books for your hunters."

This was the plan Lars and Max had discussed on the way there. Besides helping him deal with Black Maria, it would also give Lars a source of income.

"Class Books? What does he mean by that?" Ryuken asked, clearly confused.

Of course, he had no idea what Lars was talking about. At the moment, only Zane and Aleph knew that Lars was Anonymous214.

"Hmm..." Zane rested her chin on her hand as she thought carefully.

"Hey, Zane. You need to think this through properly. This is Black Maria we’re talking about. We know how dangerous they are from the last time we encountered them. Please think carefully," Aleph said.

He still remembered that their team had clashed with Black Maria a few years ago, during the early days of their company’s foundation. Fortunately, the situation had been brought under control after Zane and Black Maria’s leader agreed to a temporary truce.

Zane let out a long sigh. She had made her decision.

"I’m really grateful that you came here to ask for our help. Unfortunately, I can’t help you. I can’t simply accept your deal while putting the safety of my hunters at risk," Zane said.

"Boss, what are you saying?! They came all the way here specifically to ask for our help. We need to help them!" Ryuken suddenly said.

"If you can’t send all your hunters, then just lend me Ryuken and Vega," Lars said. He had fought alongside both of them before, and they worked well together. At the very least, having those two would give him some reliable allies.

"Yes! I will help you!" Ryuken immediately said.

"Ryuken!"

Zane suddenly raised her voice. Ryuken froze.

"I’ve already made my decision. So, if you want to remain a hunter of Mazeltov, you need to listen to me," Zane said. "Sorry, Lars. There is no one I can send with you."

Ryuken clenched his fists, feeling frustrated.

Lars was frustrated too. But he didn’t want to force them into accepting his request. He had asked for their help, and they had already given him their answer. Lars then stood up.

"Sorry for taking up your time. We will excuse ourselves. Before that, if you ever change your mind, call Max’s number."

"Why my number?!" Max suddenly asked. Nevertheless, he still gave Zane his number.

The two of them then left the office. Ryuken was frustrated. As Lars and Max walked down the stairs, he quickly chased after them.

"Lars! Max! Don’t worry! I will convince Boss to change her mind. Please wait for us!" he said.

Lars turned his head and smiled before giving Ryuken a thumbs-up. The two then left the building and headed toward Max’s car.

Unknown to them, someone was watching them.
