"One more thing," the Agent cut in as they walked down the hallway toward the press conference area. He lowered his voice, leaning in with a worried look. "We pulled all the bugs off your phone. We wiped all the hidden CCTV cameras in your room, too."
Ray stopped dead in his tracks. His eyes went wide, sporting a mix of pure shock, even though he already knew about it. ’Wait... what?!’ Ray snapped, his voice hitting a high pitch, making the Agent instinctively step back. "You bugged my phone?! You even put cameras in my personal room?! Are you guys out of your minds?!"
Seeing Ray blow up, the Agent started sweating even more. He waved his hands frantically, trying to chill Ray out before he lost it in front of the press. "Calm down, Ray! That... that was just standard procedure!’ the Agent whispered in a panic, sweat beading on his temples. ’But that’s not the point. Listen, do you know some top-tier hacker?"
Ray frowned, his anger stalling into confusion. "A hacker? Nah. I’m just a streamer, my friends are all just fellow creators or random viewers. Why?"
The Agent let out a heavy sigh, rubbing his tense neck. "A few hours ago, some mystery hacker known as RulerofMind showed up. They cracked our agency’s high-level encryption. All the secret investigation data on you—including the interrogation tapes and our detention plans—got dumped online for everyone to see."
The Agent continued in a lower voice, "Because of that, all our lies and agency efforts just got aired out to the public. That’s why we have no choice but to let you go this morning."
Ray was stunned. Behind his confused face, his brain was racing to figure out who this RulerofMind person was.
Just then, that smooth feminine voice echoed in his head again, followed by a little laugh that sounded super spoiled yet mocking.
’That was me, Darling,’ Milady whispered casually in Ray’s mind. ’As a good master, I really should help my cute slave out when he’s in a jam, shouldn’t I?’
Ray’s face went stiff. His jaw locked tight, and his eyes burned with pure annoyance. If he wasn’t standing right in front of the Agent, he would’ve started screaming.
’Are you insane?!’ Ray raged in his head, teeth gritting in frustration. ’If you could hack their system that easily from the start, why the hell didn’t you do it sooner?! Why’d you have to wait until my points were almost dry and have me exhausted as hell in this cell before stepping in?!’
----
Camera flashes hit Ray’s face the second he stepped onto the stage for the press conference. In front of a desk packed with mics, the Agent stood stiffly beside him, giving him a warning glare.
Ray took a deep breath, then started reading the paper in his hand in a dull voice. "I... I’m here to clarify that there’s been a misunderstanding... The authorities were just doing their job..."
’Put more effort into the act, Darling,’ Milady’s voice whispered in his head, sounding cold and threatening. ’Make yourself look more like the victim. If you just read it flat like that, I’m gonna take over your body and make you breakdance naked in front of all these reporters. Right now.’
Ray’s eyes popped. Cold sweat started pouring down his temples. He knew the psycho in his head never joked around with her threats. Forced into it, Ray crumpled the paper in his hand, shut his eyes, and shifted his expression to look super emotional.
He stared straight at the cameras with dim eyes and trembling lips.
"But... to be honest, I feel so degraded," Ray said with a shaking voice, breaking off-script. The agent beside him flinched.
" i was arrested, locked up, and interrogated like I was some major criminal, "Ray continued, his voice rising with emphasis. "I was treated like trash just because of some "miracle" from Hime Nature! Just because of the word of some woman claiming to have holy powers!"
The room went dead silent. Reporters held their breath, while the Agent started panicking, trying to grab Ray’s mic, but Ray shoved him away.
Ray took a step forward, glaring into the camera, yelling until his voice echoed across the room.
"You all believe in Hime Nature, don’t you?! You say her powers come from God! But if her powers are from God... why’d she wrongly accuse me?!"
Ray pointed at the air, his chest heaving as he held back emotions mixed between acting and his own frustration.
"God can’t be wrong! So, if you agree that this "messenger of God" can screw up..." Ray paused, sweeping his eyes across the frozen crowd of reporters. "...then that’s Blasphemy!"
That last word landed like a bomb. The whole crowd of reporters, camera operators, even the feds, stood frozen. The room went dead quiet, no one daring to make a peep after Ray’s insane outburst.
Once "Blasphemy" echoed out, the silence broke into a roar of buzzing reporters. Cameras started flashing wild again. Shouts like "He’s right!", "Yeah, his logic makes sense!", and "Hime Nature is just clout chasing!" started flying from the corners of the room.
Seeing things spiraling, some agents rushed in and hauled Ray off stage. He was told to get back into his old clothes. His release process was super tight and complex to dodge the media—Ray was masked up in black, wearing shades, and a hat pulled low before being smuggled out the back.
The agency car dropped Ray off across from his apartment, which was still taped off and guarded. Just as Ray was about to walk away, someone tapped his shoulder.
Ray turned around, then looked down. He let out an annoyed sigh.
Standing there was a girl with a cutesy look, short, but giving off a super familiar sadistic vibe. A huge smile was plastered on her face. Ray jumped in surprise—he recognized Milady’s physical form—before his expression shifted to a glare.
"What do you want?" Ray asked coldly.
"Come with me. I’ve got a great plan," Milady whispered casually.
Ray followed along. They ended up at a tiny cafe in a corner of an alley that was weirdly dead empty, not a single customer or waiter around.
"Did you mind control everyone here to get them to leave?" Ray guessed suspiciously.
Milady waved her hand with a little laugh. "As if. This is my cafe, and I closed it just to welcome my favorite dog’s freedom."
Ray gritted his teeth, holding back his temper. "Cut to the chase. What’s the plan?"
Milady crossed her arms and laid out her strategy plainly. "We’re clearing your name entirely tonight. You need to livestream outdoors—in a park. And while you’re at it, finish your Daily Mission using Global Alter."
"How?"
"In the middle of the stream, tell the viewers you’re super sleepy and that some weird phenomenon is about to happen. After that, pretend to fall asleep and pass out on the spot, but keep the livestream rolling and make sure the camera stays on you," Milady explained.
Ray shook his head firmly. "You’re crazy! That’s so hard! How am I supposed to control a phenomenon while faking a blackout? Plus, the camera has to stay focused on me!"
"Relax, Darling," Milady cut in casually. "I’ll be the one making sure you’re sound asleep, then."
Ray frowned. Inside his head, the big questions just kept piling up. ’What kind of System does this psycho chick actually have? Why are her abilities so OP?’
Milady suddenly let out a giggle. ’Curious, are you?’
’Stop reading people’s minds, damn it!’ Ray snapped reflexively.
Instead of getting scared, Milady stepped closer to Ray’s chair. She tiptoed slightly, planted a soft kiss on top of Ray’s head, and stroked his hair slowly.
"Hey... don’t be so mean to your master, my cute little doggy," Milady whispered with a fake-sweet tone.
Goosebumps broke out all over Ray. He backed away a bit, looking at Milady with discomfort growing by the second. The chick in front of him wasn’t just dangerous—she was a total freak.
"Fine, i’ll doit. I’m heading back now," Ray muttered, standing up from his chair.
Right on cue, a loud, violent growl echoed straight from his stomach. He winced, clutching his abdomen. He hadn’t eaten a single decent meal since he got locked up, and the hunger hit him like a truck.
Milady giggled, gesturing toward the back room. "You’re starving. Come on, I’ve got some warm food prepped back there."
Ray narrowed his eyes, taking a step back. "Hell no. Every time I deal with you, something bad happens. I’m not trying to get poisoned by a freak like you."
"Poisoned? How harsh," Milady smirked, tilting her head with a teasing glint in her eyes.
"Besides... don’t you want to talk about your bestie?"
"Huh?" Ray knit his brows, a bad feeling immediately creeping up his spine.
"You know... Karl," Milady whispered, her smile widening into something downright sinister.
Ray’s composure snapped. He slammed his hand against the table, glaring at her with raw rage. "Karl?! What the hell did you do to him?!"
Instead of flinching, Milady burst out laughing, the melodic sound echoing through the empty cafe like a villain watching her plot unfold.
