Crafting Gear From Monster Genes

Chapter 15: Groza’s Ability and Evolution

"Any suggestions?" Kreyn turned to Groza.

Groza nodded.

"Sure. At first, I thought we’d just storm in there and kill them all with my ability. But..." Her eyes fell on Kreyn’s arms. "Your barrier is strong enough to withstand their attacks for a while, isn’t it?"

Kreyn narrowed his eyes.

"You want to use me as bait? I don’t like that. At this rate, it’ll become my permanent role."

Groza smirked. "It depends on how you look at it. You’ll take the hit and give me time to prepare my attack."

"You think a single swing of your sword will be enough?"

"Huh, looks like someone forgot that my Core Gene is different from yours." Groza’s eyes grew deeper. "Your ability is to create gear, but I’m solely focused on combat. You’ll see everything, just do your part."

A few moments later, Kreyn nodded.

"Alright, but don’t take too long. Those five," he pointed at the Knight Spiders, "they look dangerous. These guys are clearly stronger than the rest."

Groza’s expression grew more serious.

"Sure. I’ll keep my promise. This mission will be a success, and you’ll make it home no matter what."

That answer satisfied Kreyn, and without another word, he leaped over a rock, heading straight for the Queen Egg.

The Green-Tipped Spiders around him grew wary as they tapped their front legs on the ground in an attempt to frighten Kreyn away.

However, he had no intention of stopping. Instead, his eyes were fixed on the five Knight Spiders who were clearly the ones calling the shots here.

"Grk!"

The first Knight Spider stepped forward. It was slightly larger than the others, and the remaining four followed it.

Tap.

The main Knight Spider stopped in front of Kreyn. Its four yellow eyes stared intently at the audacious human who dared to come here and try to steal the Queen Egg!

"GRHKKKK!"

The Knight Spider raised its legs and brought them crashing down right onto Kreyn.

Prepared for this, Kreyn held out his arm as the spider’s legs struck the barrier head-on. But the Knight Spiders were significantly stronger than the regular ones.

The impact shook Kreyn’s entire body, sending him flying to the side.

"Gha!"

His back slammed into a stone pillar as a wave of pain shot through his body.

But Kreyn had no time to feel sorry for himself, as a swarm of spiders was already attacking him.

’Tsk, that hurt...’ Kreyn frowned with a grimace as the spiders rushed toward him. ’But now they’re all gathered in one place. I just need to hold them off for a little while.’

Clasp.

He crossed his arms as a bright light burst forth, forming a dense crimson barrier around him.

A dozen sharp spider fangs rained down on his barrier in a barrage of strikes.

The spiders crowded in front of Kreyn, and every time the knights attacked, the barrier shuddered, causing Kreyn’s legs to tremble.

Crack!

With the next hit, the first crack ran through Kreyn’s barrier, causing him to frown.

"What? Even the Stone Garud couldn’t damage my barrier! Is it just because their fangs are sharp and sturdy? Tsk!" Kreyn clenched his teeth as his hands trembled.

He felt every strike on himself, so it wasn’t even a minute before his arms began to go numb.

"Groza, you need to hurry up, damn it!"

She didn’t keep him waiting long.

Whooooooosh!

Like a shadow, Groza swept through the hall, this time without her sword in hand. Ironically, her ability didn’t suit the weapon she used most of all.

A few spiders noticed there was a second human there as well, but most were distracted by Kreyn, knowing his barrier would soon collapse.

In fact, it was already too late for them.

Spark!

The moment electrical discharges flashed through Groza’s black eyes and the tips of her hair glowed and stood on end, it was all over for the spiders.

"Watch out, Kreyn!" Groza exclaimed as she stepped forward.

Her foot touched the ground, and her body trembled.

In a blue flash of lightning, Groza surged forward, sweeping through the spiders like an unstoppable force.

The speed, the power of the lightning, and the sheer force were enough to destroy everything in her path, without pausing for even a moment.

ZZZAP! ZZZAP! ZZZAP!

Moving from one spot to another, with every leap, Groza destroyed several spiders, and the knight spiders were no exception.

"GRRRKK!!!"

The main spider growled, thrusting its legs forward to stop Groza, but she merely took another step closer.

"That won’t help you!" Groza clenched her teeth as, in the next instant, she swept right through the spider, tearing the massive monster to pieces.

The legs and shards of flesh flew off in all directions as Groza finally managed to stop.

"Gha... Gha... Gha..."

She was breathing heavily as she leaned against the stone column where Kreyn had just been standing. He had stepped aside in advance, knowing that at that speed, Groza wouldn’t be able to stop in time.

’So that’s what her ability is like?’

Kreyn thought, looking at Groza. Now, her clothes were torn, her legs were trembling, and her hands were scratched.

’It’s a powerful ability, but the backlash is just as severe.’

Then, his gaze turned to the sword left by the rock behind which they were hiding. Something in his expression changed as he nodded and headed toward the spiders.

Now, nothing remained in the caves except the Queen Egg. They achieved their goal, but before that, Kreyn had to collect all the genes.

[The Green-Tipped Spider Gene has been obtained!]

[The Green-Tipped Spider Gene has been obtained!]

[The Green-Tipped Spider Gene has been obtained!]

In total, Kreyn had obtained another 15 spider genes, which should help him reach 78%.

’78%?’ Kreyn thought, looking at the knight spiders. ’I hope they grant much more progress than the others.’

[The Knight Green-Tipped Spider Gene was absorbed x5!]

[Knight Green-Tipped Spider Gene (Quantity: x5)

[Tier: I

[Rarity: Rare

[Quality: Average

[Features: None.]

’The quality and rarity are higher. Huh. Come on! I need each of them to give at least 5%!’

Without hesitation, Kreyn immediately channeled all the genes he had into the Stone Garud Cell.

[Stone Garud Cell

[Development: 31% -> 45% -> 61%

[Evolution: Unavailable.]

The progress bar continued to rise rapidly as the smile on Kreyn’s face grew wider. First, the regular spiders were absorbed, and then the knights.

Groza came to her senses at that moment as she looked at Kreyn, who was standing among a dozen spider corpses with a look full of excitement.

’Agh? Has he finally gathered enough genes?’

At that very moment, Kreyn used his second-to-last gene.

[Development: 93% -> 98%.]

’I only have one gene left, but they give 5% each! Ha! I knew I’d have enough! Let’s go! I want to use my last gene!’

[Accepted.]

The system did as Kreyn said, and soon the progress bar filled completely.

[Development: 98% -> 100%.]

[Development of the Stone Garud Cell has reached its maximum!]

[Evolution of the Stone Garud Cell is now available!]

Kreyn blinked, waiting for the final message.

[Since the Stone Garud Cell is inside the Sand Shiver Boots, they will evolve as well!]

"Great."
