Crafting Gear From Monster Genes

Chapter 43: Product and Plans for the Evening

[The Glass Wing of the Rahta Queen.]

[A special wing that may occasionally appear on the Rahta Beast Queens. In rare cases, all four wings may be glass ones, but usually only one or two. This wing possesses incredible durability, yet becomes as fragile as glass when its internal energy is released.]

Kreyn encountered something like this once before.

When he and Groza found the Spider Queen Egg, system messages also appeared before him, but he couldn’t make out what they said. His Gene Forge level was too low back then.

’So that’s what the forge wanted from me last time?’

Kreyn thought, looking at the wing.

’It’s a resource, so I can use it at the Armory Infusion, right?’

His question went unanswered, but Kreyn understood that was to be expected.

’Also... I could try to create some other Product. Hmm. Now, the Armory Infusion only works on equipment, and besides my boots, I don’t have anything else.’

Clap!

Hargod’s palms clapped in front of Kreyn, snapping him out of his thoughts.

"Hey, what are you thinking about? Is this thing useful?"

He tilted his head, scratching his chin.

"Based on its description, I wouldn’t say it’s anything special."

Hargod and the others didn’t see the same thing Kreyn did. The description lacked certain details for them, and they also had no way to use this wing.

"Yes." Kreyn nodded. "I’d like to take this wing for myself. I think... that eventually I’ll be able to find a use for it."

"Huh, right, you’re a blacksmith! I already forgot about that!" Hargod waved his hand with a smirk. "Fine, do whatever you think is best."

Meanwhile, Leora was patrolling the perimeter.

She didn’t believe there were no more Rahta Beasts left here, thinking that someone must have stayed behind.

But even after searching for several minutes, all she found was some leftover pure Orazit and a bunch of lower-quality crystals.

"Boss, it’s empty here. I don’t know what’s going on in the other chambers, but..." She narrowed her eyes. "It looks like the Rahta Beasts have actually left this nest."

"Damn." Hargod nonchalantly scratched his cheek. "I’d have liked to fight the blue ones one more time. There aren’t that many monsters around here that can withstand my punch!"

Groza turned to them.

"So, what are we going to do now? Looks like our mission is complete, right?"

"Leora, your people are ready to work, aren’t they?"

"Sure." She nodded. "It’ll be pretty tough to lay tracks and bring in the mine carts, but there’s nothing a few bags of dynamite can’t fix."

Hargod waved his hand.

"Use the slaves, don’t go easy on them. They have to prove they deserve their place here."

"That’s exactly what I was planning to do. I’ll assemble a team and get to work."

Kreyn’s expression didn’t flicker during their conversation, unlike Groza’s, whose eyes flared with fire.

"You." Leora pointed at Kreyn. "I’ve had enough of your cunning plans. Today, you’ll be working with me."

"No."

He flatly refused.

"I’m going to rest now, and I have other plans for tonight."

"Hmm?" Leora grimaced. "And? What are these plans?"

Without hesitation, Kreyn turned to Groza.

"Groza - will you go on a date with me?"

This took even Leora by surprise. Groza, however, was even more shocked.

"HaHAHAHAH!" Hargod laughed heartily, holding his stomach. "Now that’s what I call being straightforward! You just got the job done, and you’re already thinking about plans for the night? Respect!"

He waved his hand.

"Leora, leave him alone. He’s done enough today."

Leora nodded after a pause, still stunned.

"S-Sure..."

...

Tap.

Kreyn set the glass wing on the table, ready to work.

He’d invited Groza on a date just so Leora would leave him alone and not suspect him when, instead of helping her, he decided to meet up with Groza. Now, she knew the reason, the official one, not the real one.

He had one important task to complete before evening.

[Glass Wing.]

[Products available for creation: ???]

"What does that mean? Will I get a random result?"

[No. You can’t create a Product without knowing the result. It’s like a recipe.]

"You can’t cook the right dish without knowing the order. Got it."

Kreyn nodded.

"How do I get the recipe?"

Blink.

The moment he blinked, he found himself in the dark world in front of the Gene Forge.

The Glass Wing appeared above the anvil as a bright flame ignited, its tips touching the wing.

[This is a passive-active process. To obtain a Product Imprint, you must use the Forge Flame on the required resource.]

[During this time, the Forge Flame will be consumed at a rate 10 times faster than its passive regeneration.]

"Wait... That means 15% will be used up in just 1 hour, right?"

[Correct.]

15% of the Forge Flame was quite a lot, since 25% was equal to one Ignition charge.

"And, roughly how long will it take to obtain an Imprint of this resource?"

[About 12 hours.]

Kreyn frowned.

That was 180%, it was way too much. Considering he’d have to wait for the Forge Flame to regenerate, the entire process would take more than two days, not 12 hours.

[But you can use another resource to speed up this process.]

"Another resource? Like Orazit Ore?" Kreyn suggested.

[No.]

The system didn’t explain anything further and showed Kreyn the item he needed right away.

[Soul Fragment x1.]

Kreyn’s eyes widened for a moment.

"Right, at the Second Forge Level, I gained more options for using Soul Fragments. Looks like this is one of them."

After that, he nodded.

"Alright. I want to speed up the process. Use the Soul Fragment."

Without delay, a flickering speck of light resembling a restless flame appeared beside Kreyn.

It headed toward the anvil, igniting the flame with renewed vigor. A bright stream of fire engulfed the Glass Wing, significantly accelerating the progress.

[Time remaining: 2 hours.]

"That’s 30%, right? Well, more precisely 27%, since 3% should regenerate during that time. Essentially, that’s one charge. I can go for it."

He nodded, sitting down on the edge of the bed.

"Alright, I can wait."

Kreyn had nothing else to do since he was now focused solely on one task, but this time was enough for him to rest after their raid into the caves.

"It’s a shame I didn’t manage to get a single rare gene. Well, I can’t always get lucky, can I?"

[Time remaining: 1 minute.]

Kreyn watched the bright flame as his heart began to beat faster.

[Ding!]

[The discovery of an Imprint has been completed!]

[The use of the Soul Fragment triggered a special reaction with the Glass Wing, causing the resulting outcome to differ from the original!]

Kreyn was confused, but something told him this wasn’t a bad thing.

"So this Imprint has absorbed a fragment of that soul? That should improve the result, shouldn’t it?"

[Glass Wing of the Rahta Queen (Imprint)]

[Available Product to create:

[Phantom Soul Blade.]

Kreyn blinked.

’Blade? Wait... Is this just another way to craft equipment?’

Soon, Kreyn realized where he was wrong.

[Products can only be used a limited number of times or just once, after which the Product will be destroyed.]
