Crossdressing To Survive An Apocalypse [BL]
Chapter 443 - 55 - Knock on the doorChen simply sat there, watching Skyy breathe slowly and steadily in his arms. After everything that had happened, he still couldn't quite believe that Skyy was alive. Only a short while ago, he had been certain that he was going to lose him. Now, Skyy's chest rose and fell gently, his body warm against Chen's, and Chen could finally allow himself to breathe again.
Nothing in the world could have prepared him for what happened next.
There was a knock on the door.
An actual knock.
Chen's entire body stiffened.
He slowly turned his head toward the cabin door, his eyes widening as he wondered for a moment whether he had imagined it. No one should have been out here. The cabin was surrounded by wilderness, and as far as he knew, they hadn't encountered another living person anywhere nearby.
Then came another knock.
This time, it was followed by a soft, husky voice.
"Is anyone in there…? Please. I need help."
Chen frowned.
There was something strange about the man's voice. He sounded disoriented and confused, almost as though he didn't even know where he was.
Carefully, Chen lowered Skyy onto the ground and reached for the rifle that had fallen earlier. He rose slowly, keeping his eyes fixed on the door as he approached it.
"What do you want?" he called out.
"I… I just need help. I don't know where this is and… I…"
The man trailed off, his confusion obvious in his voice.
Chen narrowed his eyes. He leaned closer to the door and peered through one of the narrow gaps between the wooden boards, but the angle was poor, and he couldn't get a proper look at the stranger.
After a moment of hesitation, he slowly opened the door a crack, keeping the rifle raised and pressed firmly toward the man's head.
The stranger immediately froze. His hands shot into the air. "Whoa! I don't mean any harm!" he said quickly. "I'm not going to hurt you."
Chen's expression hardened.
The man's entire face was covered in blood.
His clothes were torn and filthy, almost completely ruined. Moss and some kind of green and brown growth clung to his body, as though he had been crawling through the forest for days. His pants were barely hanging onto him, reduced to little more than shredded pieces of fabric.
He looked exhausted.
Lost.
And somehow…
Wierdly familiar.
Chen's eyes narrowed as he studied him. "You…" His grip tightened around the rifle. "Why do you have blood all over you? Did you get bitten?"
The stranger froze. The change in his expression was immediate. Guilt flashed across his face, followed by something that looked almost like shame.
"I…" He lowered his head. "I was the one who bit your friend."
Chen's blood ran cold. "What?"
"I'm sorry, okay?" the man said hurriedly. "I didn't want to. I wasn't in control. I don't know how it happened. I just…" His voice cracked. "I bit him."
His hands began to tremble as he stared at them.
"I killed so many people…"
The stranger suddenly dropped to his knees.
"I killed so many people…"
His shoulders began shaking violently, and within seconds, he was sobbing.
"I think you should just kill me." He looked down at his muddy, moss-covered hands as though they disgusted him. "I'm a monster."
Chen stood completely still. He couldn't believe what he was hearing. His eyes slowly widened as the pieces began falling into place. "You're saying…You're that zombie?"
The man looked up at him through tear-filled eyes. "I was a zombie…" His face crumpled. "I killed my family, man. I killed them…" His breathing became ragged. "Oh my god, my kid…I killed him…"
He covered his face with both hands and let out a broken cry.
"Ahhh… why, God? Why?"
His cries echoed through the small cabin.
Chen's mind raced.
This was the zombie. The same Level 4 zombie that had attacked Skyy.
Yet the man standing in front of him was human.
A terrified, broken human being.
Chen stepped forward and pressed the rifle firmly against his head. "Shut up and answer my question!" he snapped. "You're that zombie?! How are you human now?"
The man stared at him helplessly, tears dripping down his blood-covered face. "I don't know…"
He shook his head frantically. "I don't know how it happened."
His trembling hand rose toward his head, rubbing it as though he were trying to make sense of the memories inside it. "I just… woke up like this."
His eyes squeezed shut. "Just kill me, please."
He leaned slightly into the tip of the rifle. "These memories…They're killing me."
He swallowed hard, tears continuing to stream down his face. "They're brutal. I can remember everything I did. Every person I killed…" His shoulders shook. "I don't want to remember."
He looked at Chen with an expression filled with desperation. "I don't want to live anymore."
Chen stared at the man for several seconds before finally lowering the rifle slightly.
"Get inside."
The man looked at him in surprise.
"What?"
"I said get inside."
Chen grabbed him by the arm and pulled him into the cabin before quickly shutting the door behind him. He didn't lower his guard completely, keeping the rifle in one hand as he glanced toward Skyy lying on the moss bed.
The stranger stumbled forward and nearly fell, but Chen caught him before he could hit the ground.
"Sit."
The man slowly lowered himself onto the floor.
Chen crouched in front of him, his expression hard.
"Now stop crying for a second and tell me exactly what happened."
The man opened his mouth, but his breathing immediately became uneven again.
"I… I don't know…"
"You do know." Chen's voice was firm. "You said you were a zombie. You said you bit Skyy. You said you killed people. So start from the beginning and tell me everything you remember."
The man swallowed.
Chen watched him carefully.
"How long were you infected?"
The man's eyes lowered.
"Almost twenty years."
Chen's expression changed.
"Twenty years?"
The man nodded weakly.
"I was infected when I was still young. Almost twenty years ago."
Chen stared at him in disbelief.
That made even less sense.
A zombie surviving for twenty years was already unusual enough, but becoming human again after that long was completely impossible.
There had never been a case like this.
Once someone turned into a zombie, their human consciousness disappeared. Their body deteriorated, their instincts took over, and the virus gradually transformed them into something that existed only to hunt and destroy.
There was no reversal.
No cure.
And certainly no waking up twenty years later as a human again.
"Tell me everything," Chen repeated. "Don't skip anything. I want to know what happened before you became a zombie, what you remember doing afterward, and what happened before you turned human again."
The man rubbed his face with his filthy hands, struggling to gather his thoughts.
